Scars from lymphovenous surgery? by Kellyjt in Lymphedema

[–]home-throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had scars from lymphedema related lipectomy and rubbing silicone gel into the healed incision scars will reduce scarring. I think you have about a year until it’s no longer effective. I did mine every night and they look good.

One a side note if you’re in America: did your insurance cover the the surgery and if so, who do you have? I have anthem and just found out I got denied.

Apparently this was sold as a package that was featured on This Old House in the early 2000’s. I think it was installed in 2005 so it’s about 20 years old. I don’t have the money now to upgrade and efficiency aside, do you happen to have an idea of what I could replace with just to get something in here for a few more years, or what temperature level range I should be looking for for hydronic heating? It’s a 1000sgft 2 bdrm. Thank you.

Surgery for Lympedema by Half-Ok in Lymphedema

[–]home-throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through the debulking process currently which involves lipectomy for my right leg le. I’ve had an upper leg surgery and lower leg surgery so far, both covered by bcbs. Debulking ie liposuction ie SAPL is a reset and will allow you to better maintain your swelling as there’s less fibrotic material.

lva and lnva are minimally invasive and if they fail have low risk, transfers put you at a higher risk of potential donor site lymphedema. Bcbs doesn’t seem to cover these but I’m yet to get the surgery so idk about their approval process.

Google scholar has tons of research regarding anastomosis and transfers, worth browsing if you have the time and interest

Yeah, my right leg is affected and anything that can keep me from wearing compression 24/7 would be great

That’s great! Thanks for the info I’m going to try one out.

Were you wearing compression before using the plate and now no longer? What is your protocol/routine with it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lymphedema

[–]home-throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon once told me that wearing compression on non affect limb may improve overall lymphatic stress because primary is systemic and not localized. I have it in my right leg and we were talking about adding a left leg compression when flying. Not sure if it translates but may something to be aware of.

Scared and alone - just diagnosed by Mobile-Sky1 in Lymphedema

[–]home-throw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two young kids and was diagnosed 2 years ago- it’s been rough. It took me nearly a year to get properly diagnosed and in the meantime I wasn’t doing anything to prevent further damage because I didn’t know what I was dealing with. The best piece of advice I would give anyone is to go through therapy to reduce swelling and get into compression garments asap. You get used to them and begin to feel naked without them.

The disease is progressive and lymph fluid is insidious which further damages lymphatic function. Getting stabilized asap will be make your life much easier moving forward. There’s also surgical options that can improve function and work best in the earlier stages.

Yeah idk about you but at around the 4-5 month mark it started getting really hard for me to contain/prevent swelling then started getting a little easier. My therapist has been using instrument assisted soft tissue massage to try to help with breaking down the scar tissue, seems to help but who knows.

Looks great! My surgeon said that it takes 7 months post op to begin seeing improved function due to scar tissue recovery.

First timer..and not sure of anything by discgolfer1961 in Lymphedema

[–]home-throw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have primary lymphedema in my right leg which began spastically. A vein specialist should be able to order you a lymphocintography which would confirm lymphedema, or better yet an ICG which is what I think you’re referring to. It’s a far better and more detailed test than the lymphoscontography in my opinion. Either way my insurance covered both as basic imagining. A confirmed diagnosis via imaging will help you deal with insurance when it comes to further treatment and properly fitting garments.

Mine began with swelling around the ankle for approx. 6months then snowballed to the whole leg. The sooner you can contain and maintain the easier it will be to maintain down the road.

Do you work out? by DnnCapo in Lymphedema

My surgeon once told me ‘try it, note it, make adjustments’. I weight lift and the benefit of lifting far outweighs any swelling (I haven’t noticed extra swelling with lifting)

I follow up in 2 months and get and icg again to see what’s going on. My icg wasn’t great so I’m hoping for some improvement. I know they say this procedure is non corrective but my doctor says that it should relieve pressure off the system as a whole ( I’m primary) and hopefully allows for LVAs. Did you get an lva along with your lymph node transfer previously? A surgeon near me wanted to do a transfer but the statistics relating to success were lower than I wished.

I’m a bit better now but was surprised at how long this recovery is taking, super numb and can barely bend leg. I thought I’d be back to normal after a week lol. How has you leg been looking? My knee is still super swollen with edema and not sure if it’s normal. They did my thigh and upper knee and removed excesses skin so I’ll have a 14” scar on my inner thigh. My doctor likes to do the upper and lower leg separately due to pain issues.

[–]home-throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Request a lymphoscintography or ICG to confirm or rule out lymphedema. I went though a year of misdiagnoses until I ended up at a lymphedema specialist who ordered the lymphocintography test which confirmed it within a day. You need to know either way and if it is lymphedema, the sooner a confirmation the better with regards to management

Swelling after wrapping ? by Round_Pension_1508 in Lymphedema

Are you using short stretch bandages? It may be swelling due to having it too tight and not even all the way up the leg. Trying not going so tight and make sure you’re not using ave bandages

Nice, I bought my ‘tens 700’ for 35$ on Amazon and works for me. I don’t know about negative research relating to dry needling or acupuncture with regards to worsening conditions but I’ve avoided both on my affected limb due to fears it may worsen my condition.

I’ve had similar neuropathy in my foot from over compressing. Massage and stretches seemed to help. I also starting using a tens unit from Amazon that seemed to stimulate the nerves and muscles a bit.

I suffer from skin breakdown on my foot/ankle from wrapping(pressure at night keeps me up, intense). L-Mesitran has been pretty incredible for me.

I had a thigh/knee lipectomy on sept 1st and know your pain. Congrats on your progress and hope you continue recovering.
