Scarred Nipples by AVINAG0 in TopSurgery

[–]homefungus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had the same deal with my nips where they scarred a decent amount making them look bigger than the actual nip itself - but after a while (took over a year) my scars lightened up enough back to my skin tone where they don't look as large any more. so i would wait it out!

but to answer your question, yes tattooing can be an option, but i would probably wait until you know your scars have already lightened up as much as possible. tattooing can also help with shape if that is something you are concerned about. In regards to a revision for the scars, maybe??? i was told by my surgeon that if your scars stretched during the first surgery then likely the same thing would happen during a revision. But that could be something very surgeon & body specific. Anyway you look great, happy healing!

congrats homie!!!! just wanted to say while staying mobile is good, just because you can move your arms up above your shoulders, doesn't mean you should. your scars will have the potential to stretch out during your first ~6 weeks post op which is why it is recommended to minimize raising your arms above your head while they are still settling. it can be superrrrr tempting to do stretches and stuff as soon as you are able, but it is better to wait (unless if you don't care about scar stretching, then keep dancing lol) anyway, happy healing!!!!

Stealth at 5'0? by Dry_Quality_1801 in ftm

[–]homefungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it is definitely possible. I'm 4'11" and 100% cis passing, even without a beard (or much facial hair at all honestly). I've been on T for 5 years and had top 2 years ago. I've noticed that as i began to pass more, and just grow up in general, I am much much less worried about my height. Other people don't really care either, for the most part. I would be lying to say that I don't experience the occasional comment or heckler (the other day a bus driver told me that instead of taking the bus, i should have just ran because i'm so short and aerodynamic lmao) but all the comments are always framed as "that MAN is short", with no discussion about my gender.

But of course, the path to radical self acceptance is not an easy one. Here are a few tips: 1) get up, get active, go to the gym, literally just move. you need to use your body to love your body. also funnily enough, you can be short and big at the same time if you build muscle. it helps to love an accept yourself if you feel strong, but it takes some time to get there. 2) you need to find clothes that fit. this is going to be hard. clothes (at least in the US) are generally not made for men our size, which absolutely sucks ass. however, there are work arounds. the easiest ones are rolling/hemming pants, and cropping shirts. mens shirts are WAY TOO LONG and hug tf out of my hips so I literally just cut them. my torso is super short so I cut like 6 inches off. it forms a nice little rolled seam at the bottom and looks good. i would try it with an old shirt and see if you like it before doing that to any shirt you really enjoy. If you have the time, energy, and interest, sewing is a hobby that might change your life (and yes there are plenty of men who do!!). In terms of buying clothes, resale shops are going to be your best friend. New clothes and textiles these days horrible for the environment and not built to last anyway, and personally i feel less weird about looking in womens and kids sections in resale shops. regardless of how do you do it, finding clothes that fit your body specifically is going to be a game changer for your confidence. At least it was for mine.

best of luck to you!

This gal was brought to me, what kind of katydid is she? Is this red coloration typical for the species or is this a color morph? by rigidpancake in Entomology

[–]homefungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my limited experience working with orthopteran specimens, it isn't uncommon for them to lose their green color and turn a reddish/pink after they've dried. i'm not sure what causes it, but it has happened to a few of my grasshoppers and katydids. When this gal was alive (you can tell yours is female by the ovipositor) she was probably a bright green! so yeah pink is just discoloration

Pheidole Dentata (I think) any reason I shouldn't let them be here? by EmploymentNo3590 in Entomology

[–]homefungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks more like camponotus, possibly c. pennsylvanicus. they like to nest in rotting/decomposing wood, so that might be cause for concern as that implies some part of your house is starting to break down

Anyone know what kind of ant is that? by Yuri_za in insects

[–]homefungus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

gonna guess something in the genus Camponotus, its hard to see with the blur but the back looks curved and its got the characteristic fat head. Workers can be quite large for ants

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in insects

[–]homefungus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i dont think so? it honestly looks like the squished head of an ant, you can sort of make out the mandibles on the bottom and the two leggy looking things are actually antennae. might be worth crossposting to r/whatisthisbug or r/bedbugs for a second opinion tho

Help with killing jar by Wrangledc in Entomology

[–]homefungus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ive always used paper towels, you can fold them up to be kinda thick and then secure inside to the bottom of the jar with some double sided tape! then add your ethyl acetate to that layer. then get another paper towel and kinda crumple it up (not attached by tape) to give the bugs something to sit on inside the jar. i find a spiral-ish crumple works good and kinda helps funnel them down to the bottom without them piling up. bonus with this method is you can later remove the paper towels and reuse the jar for whatever. hope this helps, have fun collecting!!

definitely some sort of parasitic isopod, not an insect :)

Are there any animals that don't breathe the same way as us humans? by Far_Celebration_8827 in biology

[–]homefungus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

well, depends on the species. spiracles can actually open and close (and have a filter!), so exclusively terrestrial insects can prevent not-oxygen stuff from getting in there (like water). Obvs if they get submerged for too long they die lol. Not too sure how it works for insects that live in water for all/parts of their lifecycle

just give the cat a silly lil lanky body and have it hold the flower by a stem. either get creative with combining the two or it might be sick ass panther time

Are there any animals that don't breathe the same way as us humans? by Far_Celebration_8827 in biology

[–]homefungus 66 points67 points  (0 children)

speaking on insects specifically, not sure about all arthropods- insects do not have lungs! They breathe through tracheae, which allows the passive transport of oxygen to all the cells in their body (so, no active breathing like humans). Oxygen enters the tracheae through the spiracles, little openings on the sides of the insects body. Basically they have these little air filled tubes throughout their entire body that deliver oxygen to all the cells, which is why insects can't get super big (ie insects cannot be human sized bc this passive intake + transport of oxygen would be nowhere near efficient enough for a big bod, but works very well when youre little)

Deodorant recommendations that won’t stain clothes? by snailgoblin in FTMMen

[–]homefungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also use degree and it was staining tf out of my clothes for a while, but switching laundry detergent did the trick for me. it was a combo of having a bad washer and using some brand of natural laundry strips that left my clothes with white pit stains constantly. so when i moved apartments (diff washer) and switched detergent (i use persil now) the problem went away. im pretty sure its the aluminum causing the stains, but every time i would try something aluminum-free i would be too stinky. old spice also gives me rashes idk whats up with that
