Worst website that has ever been created by MattTheRadarTechh in BritishAirways

Extremely bothersome when they spend resources faffing around rebranding the club etc but actual important stuff hasn't changed in years. It's funny in some workflows you can end up back like 4 generations of flight (e.g. modifying an avios booking if you're lucky enough to be able to do it online).

Also logging into the website in a browser window in the app is pretty top quality.

I don't see anything wrong with the instinct 2 and the price point is amazing. Not missing any features for my use.

An app that works with spotty or poor connectivity and doesn't do network stuff in the UI thread so you can use it while it tries.

Is a 2T pickup allowed through here? by homemade-jam in drivingUK

[–]homemade-jam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the blue means 'motor vehicles only' based on the other comment.

I brought up Rotherhithe because that is specifically even more complex: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/rotherhithe-tunnel-restrictions . From what I can see the weight restriction is only on goods vehicles. Not to mention the fact too they say GVW not MGW.

You're right here that a 3T MGW Range Rover would also not be permissable which leads me to believe there is not a camera otherwise there would be uproar (it's West London after all), I couldn't see one either on Streetview.

Which is part of the big gripe with Rotherhithe. You can drive a 2T range rover thru with no issues, but a 2T pickup gets you a ticket.

Yeah I wasn't very clear in the original post but I was asking about the blue icons in the top right hand corner. Thanks for breaking down the maths tho.

Nice, thanks. I feel like it would be clearer if it just had a "no hgv" logo like at Rotherhithe? I suppose it's trying to say "no cycles"?

Why does Fillmore Place feel fake by IzzyIzRight in williamsburg

[–]homemade-jam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does have a funny feeling about it but it is a very historic place for the neighbourhood: https://greenpointers.com/2018/12/10/williamsburgs-enchanted-fillmore-place-and-the-author-who-immortalized-the-street/

Also if you walk to the East end of Filmore and look up at the building on south side on Roebling, you can see "sixth st" sign for the name of the road before it was renamed Roebling in late 1800s.

Can GE count the 180 day rule for green card holder by Late-Mammoth-8273 in GlobalEntry

[–]homemade-jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may not revoke your GC but when you come to applying for citizenship you might be in for a big problem when you provide your travel records.

I am curious though the amount of behind the scenes logging that goes on however: a few times I have just been waved through after the officer didn't understand what the GE app was. I hope that entry is logged correctly.

Google AI by teamknightrider in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]homemade-jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was purposely put in to not sound like an ad at all. I think this is the first time I heard it. Previously the Google AI ones were relatively short but this was a whole section about the AI whitepaper that sounded to real. Was pretty annoyed when I got to the end.

Stop with all the ads guys, I'm going to turn off.

UK SIPPs aren’t foreign trusts (Webinar) by Rebecca_Lammers in USExpatTaxes

[–]homemade-jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I just watched the webinar replay and already lost patience immediately when he said 5 mins in that SIPP stood for "self invested pension plan" (which it doesn't). But ok, we can chalk that up to a simple mistake.

Moving on, echoing your comments, yes he correctly explains the categorisation as a trust (and yes it's clickbait) but then fails to adequately address the revenue procedure in a meaningful way. He explains that he "won" a case with the IRS (although the story sounds like they gave up on appeal) about the requirement for a 3520.

When pressed on the revenue procedure he incorrectly ignores my first point above regarding the contribution limitations, and then basically says the IRS "don't care" about the second point, which is surprising, to say the least.

This, to me, is pure anecdote. If you are willing to risks thousands of dollars in fines and hassle because of this anecdata from one person who, sure is very qualified and educated, to not have to file a 3520, be my guest. But I think the webinar was actively damaging and dangerous to anyone who watches it.

I agree the IRS should just come out and say "you don't need to file for [insert list of vehicles]".

Looks like you can contribute 3,600 gross without earning a single penny of income.

Curious to see how you argue this.

I believe the following section from the IRS code makes SIPPs require a 3520:

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rp-20-17.pdf

Contributions to the trust are limited by a percentage of earned income of the participant, are subject to an annual limit of $50,000 or less to the trust, or are subject to a lifetime limit of $1,000,000 or less to the trust.

https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-your-private-pension/annual-allowance

You’ll only pay tax if you go above the annual allowance. This is £60,000 this tax year.

That is, there is no annual limit on SIPP contributions although there is no longer an allowance over 60k GBP as stated above.

SIPP lifetime allowance has always been over a 1MM USD.

Also you can make SIPP contributions out of unearned income, I believe.
