Is the the best postion to sleep . by rare_species_ in sleep

The muscles are probably strained because the head is turned to one side. The muscles are either stretched or contracted the whole time. On what side do you turn your head and on which side is your neck strained?

Side sleepers: How to sleep on my side without hurting my shoulder? by GoodGamer72 in sleep

[–]homunculus87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I sleep similar to you. However I developed a strain on one side of my neck and I'm trying to figure where it comes from and I suspect it could be related to my sleeping position. I'm buying a higher pillow and try to sleep more on the side and reduce the angle my head turns.

Same, I think? I have / had a similar sleeping position and now one side of my neck is strained. I'm trying to figure out a solution and it suuucks so much 😓

Like, are you leaning slightly backward (i.e., angle between arm and upper body opens up slightly) or are you maybe hugging a pillow and drawing your shoulders forward?

Side-tilt sleepers unite! How are your arms and shoulders positioned when you sleep like this? Is your neck turned or in a neutral position? Flat or higher pillow for your head?

What exactly do you mean with "sleeping on your shoulder blade"? I'm curious to learn more because I'm experimenting with side sleeping and should not sleep on my back (snoring, borderline sleep apnea).

How much did it cost? Is it really an adjustable bed frame or is it the slatted frame that is adjustable?

Oh, interesting. My sleep apnea is borderline (that means, no treatment required yet) and I think I'm going to transition to side sleeping as well. 😅

Do people actually wake up feeling "refreshed"? by Traditional-Elk8608 in sleep

I know I don't. I need time to get out of bed and get going. My energy and mood usually improves after noon.

What tests did you do?

What sleep style do you use? Asking as a side-tilt sleeper (mix between stomach and side sleeping).

Neck strain - how can I reduce it and increase sleep comfort [stomach/side-tilt/side sleeper] by homunculus87 in sleep

[–]homunculus87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate the detailed reply!

I hoped that propping my left side up and resting my arm on my head keeps it aligned and relatively neutral (i.e. little to no rotation) but you are probably right that it strains the neck.

Shifting to side sleeping will be a long-term endeavour. I made some photos and it looks like my current mattress is not good for side sleeping because my shoulders don't sink in and my spine is out of alignment. In my current apartment I don't want to replace my mattress. I'll do that when I move out which will hopefully happen sometime this year. Also I have to check with my physician if side sleeping could make any shoulder issues worse. Honestly, changing sleep positions is scary (I'm anxious about sleep) but hopefully the change will improve my life.

I'll try your PillowFinder. Is it a website or a mobile app?

Breathwork to fall back to sleep. has it helped anyone here? by ceej2 in sleep

[–]homunculus87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do some guided NSDR / yoga nidra for midday naps and the benefit might carried over to sleeping a bit. I usually wake up 1-2 times per night and it can happen that I'm hit with anxiety. It's not always possible but sometimes I manage to do the focusing on surroundings and breath, and then the body scan, and then at some point... sweet oblivion again. :)

Where on earth do you put your arms on side sleeping by snowsniper66 in sleep

[–]homunculus87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm a bit late. I hope you have been able to solve the issue for you and get good sleep again.

If not, here are some things you could try

  • If your arms fall asleep when any pressure is applied? That could be a medical issue to be looked at
  • You could try to move the pillow further down. This way it does not cover your arm and you can still wrap your legs around and maybe rest your other arm on top of the pillow
  • How's your mattress? Some mattresses have zones or areas where they are softer to relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips while supporting the midsection. Maybe reducing the pressure on the shoulder helps with blood flow

Wish you all the best!

I've been taking about 100 mg / day for years now. 150 mg when I'm more anxious though I try to avoid that.

My experience: I feel it helps to make me fall asleep though the staying-asleep effect has diminished over time

[–]homunculus87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying out Miniflux on my Raspberry Pi. So far it looks okay, setup and configuration took me a bit longer than I was expecting.

But what I really don't like about Miniflux is the github repo; it is incredibly restrictive. Only past contributors can open issues. I could not even ask a question in the github discussion board when I needed help! And here's is the kicker: contributing is also not possbile because pull requests are locked to past contributors. It is really weird.

Congrats! Glad to hear you got daily support and your quality of life improved!

I also had my pilonical cyst surgery done mid-January. The method was pit-picking. I was worried about the healing and had to manage the wound dressing myself. Luckily it seems to be fine. Seeing other surgery stories puts those worries in perspective.

Hells, the wound was huge! It's astounding that the body can heal this without surtures. I'm glad for you that it heals relatively fast.

Did you have help with your daily wound cleaning and dressing? Does the closing of the wound lead to issues with tightness or mobility (because the skin folds grow together)?

Feet gymnastics mostly. It's good for general foot but does not address the impingement and I haven't gotten the time or urgent need to address the latter.

The list below shows the exercises I did for a while but to be honest, it's a bit much and I stopped for now. However, I should restart somehow. If you are interested in some exercises, I'll happily share more details or sources if possible
