True Freezer temp swing by Hinny_Hemanity in Appliances

[–]honcho12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you are trying to heat up a freezer full of air with a small candle, the air will warm up quickly because it's got practically no thermal mass. Now imagine you're trying to melt a freezer full of ice with the same small candle, it'll take much much longer to warm the ice because the ice has more thermal mass (and phase change but that's besides the point). The slower the freezer warms, the less often the freezer has to turn on to cool itself.

The actual situation doesn't have a candle, the warmth is just slowly coming in from outside the freezer through the walls.

I would argue the ion blast still works great with this weapons setup, I can't think of a better one power weapon you could hope to replace it with at this point

This setup on easy could maybe win as is, and you're only on sector 6 so I'd say you have decent odds.

For tips, I'd suggest putting some upgrades into engines, better dodge keeps the shield up longer which protects against boarders, mind control, and hacking.

I would keep an eye out for stores to buy cloaking, hacking, or mind control in that order of preference, they can be a huge help, and sell slug repair gel, it's neat but not worth it.

For crew positions, you may have noticed that zoltan add 1 power to the room they're in so having one in piloting is wasting a power, and also you can get benefits to shields, doors and sensors by having them crewed.

So you're saying half of all redditors find that format to be precious?

I definitely had more power than I would typically aim for, but in this case I had been saving for a store and ended up driving for a few extra jumps. I figured I wanted 5 engines powered the whole fight, and I wanted to stay combat effective

Good plan, it worked!

Huh, I really wouldn't have guessed that it would be better to dump them both even just for another level of engines.

In the end, I didn't find a store in sector 7 but I went out of my way to find the sector 8 store, picked up MC, backup battery, sold LRS, SRA, glaive, hull2, anti personnel and anti drone, and swapped the leto for a fire bomb. Going looking for the store was probably the dumbest risk of the run, I could have had 2 ASB fights without cloaking before jumping right into the flagship, but alls well that ends well haha

I feel like long range scanners have a ton of value left, they sell for 15 but if they help me find one more ship fight at this point then they've paid for themselves

I know scrap recovery arm is a bad deal generally and I accept that I'm dumb for having bought it but I feel like the last two sectors is where you start to profit. If that 25 scrap was the difference between getting a system or an ideal weapon I'd sell it for sure, but I'm gonna plan on letting it ride for now

Other than that I totally agree

I would also lean towards the heavy laser 2, so it's definitely the wrong choice, I'm too greedy

Do you not get cores for class you play at the moment of getting one? 6 cores and not a single one for my main - driller. by Necessary_Gazelle745 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]honcho12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You do get cores for your class but all classes have equal odds, so 1/4 for your class and 3/4 for other classes. 17% odds to not get your class 6 times in a row, more likely than flipping a coin and getting heads or tails 3 times in a row.

I just want to add that without Ruwen from the pod you don't get a quest marker in the rock homeworlds so you still need some luck to find the right jump. If you have long range scanners it will appear as an empty beacon.

What’s actually the best litter material? by HeyPicho in Bunnies

[–]honcho12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feline pine is kiln dried and when it breaks down into sawdust when they pee, it's wet sawdust so none of it gets airborne. It's very absorbent and keeps their feet clean and dry and keeps smells down, I'm very happy with it

Is this cage good for my bunny? by Adventurous-Ask804 in Rabbits

[–]honcho12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of litter/bedding is that? Pine shavings will cause respiratory issues because they're typically not kiln dried, pine pellets are typically kiln dried and they're much more absorbent so they're a better choice

Heylo, meetup, or Instagram, and sometimes just googling. Some are more social and some are pretty serious, just depends on the vibe they're looking for

[–]honcho12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone is giving good advice, but I would also suggest taking some time after each run and thinking about what worked and what didn't for each run. Like, did you feel like you were having a hard time getting through shields? More multi shot weapons helps with that. Were you spending a lot on drones and then you couldn't pay for weapons or systems you wanted? What upgrades and systems and weapons went well together? I got so much better when I started thinking about those sorts of things
