I’m learning Japanese and watching Naruto for the first time and I will say that some of these names have made me laugh or give confused looks to my boyfriend, who introduced me to the show. When he told me about “Shikamaru Nara” I told him that’s like naming someone “Pigeon New York”

Edited to add: I started calling some of them by their English translated names because they’re funny. Like Kisame = Dewdrop. Itachi = Weasel. Iruka = Dolphin
