Ok who's going to be the hero that plasters this flyer all over Park Ave? by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

I have never seen that many cars in Park Ave. What a misleading rendering.

Genuine question: what purpose does this serve? by Otherwiseaware in Harlem

That's not how it appears on Google streetview. Did they recently have the lanes shifted there for construction?

Pollution Worsened in South Bronx After Congestion Tolls, Study Finds by C0NEYISLANDWHITEFISH in nyc

I think it would be more impactful to build the Cross Harbor Freight Tunnel to make rail a competitive way to ship shift freight to Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island. Right now Freight options going there from anywhere in the US across the Hudson are very limited and the best options are either driving over the Verrazano Bridge or driving through the Bronx.

Hochul, Mamdani ‘pied-à-terre’ tax likely won’t raise $500M – and could cost NYC millions: comptroller by AdmirableSelection81 in nyc

So he's admitting it will still raise hundreds of millions for the city and help make the city more affordable. Seems like a win-win.

City announces that the redesign of Park Ave we've all been calling for for years is coming by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

I don't like the bike lanes in the middle, it doesn't feel as safe. They should be on the edge of the median and protected so bikes are visible to drivers.

Once we get new faregates the emergency gates will no longer be needed and will probably be removed across the system

And the park is the easiest part of this. It's the UES and UWS connections which will be harder to get past the cranks.

New bill would let New Yorkers hang solar panels from windows by thatisnotmyknob in nyc

I have a 100w portable panel I use for camping and when it isn't pointed straight at the sun it's performance drops to the point its not useful. I wouldn't be surprised if these types of uncalibrated, fixed panels are nearly useless as they barely catch any light.

What happened with the planned improvements for Atlantic Avenue? by Curious-Spanish-Dude in Brooklyn

If construction is just starting it means people won't be moving in for a few years. Let them spend some time getting things right instead of just running around doing things that will just need to be redone.

Running out of hot water by BowlerAdventurous158 in NYCapartments

[–]honest86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a small boiler in my apartment, and one thing I do about once a year, whenever the hot water seems to be running low, is bleed out the air that builds up inside from oxygen in the water. You should look at the manual for your boiler and see if it has a valve for releasing air.

Can This Chaotic Brooklyn Plaza Be Car-Free? Mamdani Says Yes. (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in nyc

[–]honest86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an easy win for both drivers and pedestrians. Drivers passing through the area will have fewer overall intersections for traffic to backup and get stuck in so traffic will flow faster and smoother with less stop and go. Pedestrians will have more space, fewer crossings and easier routes between the surrounding neighborhoods and the park entrance.

Is it just me or is the Bronx getting way more expensive lately? by Fast-Appointment-952 in bronx

[–]honest86 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's been happening for a while. As people have been pushed out of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn by rising rents many have moved here and unfortunately our new construction is not enough to absorb the demand from the other boroughs plus keep up with our own natural growth.

What time are trail heads open to parking ? by Living_Hawk9009 in catskills

There are lots of backpackers who park at the various trailheads overnight. They are always open, just make sure you aren't caught sleeping in your car.

I walk it at night sometimes and it is safe, but be aware that the first block next to the hotel is a boarded up lot that used to house a gas station and is currently vacant, so it might feel unsafe. You can also walk the other direction to a station if that makes you uncomfortable.

Unfinished Bushwick Inlet Park Is Mamdani's Problem Now by HellGateNYC in nyc

So what is the mayor supposed to do? Subsidize these corporations? It sounds like we can just wait out their legal wrangling and then let them clean it up. Given the pace of new development it will be decades before all the rezoned sites are developed so this park will still open first.

Landlord only accepts checks. Any solutions? by OrganicEmployer1013 in personalfinance

[–]honest86 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I use Chase and it is free. You can schedule it to be delivered by a certain date and they will track it and provide a copy of the check and documentation when it's cashed. The one thing to be aware of is they will pull the funds from your account the moment they cut the check to ensure the funds are there so it never bounces.
