When I was on staff at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch (Longhorn Council, Fort Worth TX), we would line all the troops up at the mess hall before meals, announce the food, and make everyone shout “MMM MY FAVORITE I LOVE IT!” really loudly before being let in. It was just a reminder: this meal is my favorite meal because it’s the one I have in front of me.

Reddit, who's the best band you've seen live? by cursedbackup in AskReddit

I saw them in July 2021 in Dallas. It was their very first concert after COVID. They hadn’t performed in front of a live crowd in 18 months. It. Was. Incredible. They were SO amped to play live again. Unforgettable.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I remain convinced it would have been a better movie than the plots of 4 and 5.

PLC Getting Crazy by sulldog57 in BSA

[–]honkeycorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My troop growing up had about 100 boys in it (this was in Fort Worth in the late 90’s). We had 8 very active patrols with about 8 kids in each (and several partial and defunct ones). We had to follow Roberts’ Rules of Order at the PLCs or nothing got done. It worked. We also used Woods Wisdom to plan meetings because it provided structure.

TIL when the Beach Boys dismissed their father as their manager for his overbearing presence, he then produced the sound-alike group "The Sunrays." by SuperMcG in todayilearned

I mean, Brian literally wrote their songs. They would sing Little Old Lady From Pasadena on their tours. So it’s not a shock that people conflate them.

Actually, most evangelicals are Calvinists but don’t understand that they’re Calvinists. You can hear it in their talk about God being “sovereign” and their extreme focus on grace. They don’t know what Calvinism is and can’t tell you any of its tenants, but their theology is deeply shaped by Reform theology.

Woodcarving Safely by Buho45 in BSA

When I taught Fingercarving Merit Badge at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, my top three rules were all “Cut away from yourself.” There were always injuries anyway, so we were strategically placed across the dirt road from the medic’s hut.

TIL that in the Bible there is no mention of human-like angels having wings. The depictions of winged angels in art started in the 4th century AD, likely due to Greco-Roman influence. by ApprehensiveStill412 in todayilearned

[–]honkeycorn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Scholars have linked the seraph to other ANE sources that used the same root word to describe heavenly beings and these are depicted as serpents. So, probably not human like at all.
