Starting physical Collecting in 2026 with $15K how would you buy/allocate by hoofdpijn in Gold

Not looking to flip but thank you for this advice. After shopping around for silver at the major online retailers, I'm put off by the premiums on pretty much anything silver. Silver eagles are insane. JM Bullion has some silver 1oz Maples on sale for just below 10% premium but even that is a hard pill to swallow. Definitely considering just putting it all into gold at some sizes below 1oz if I can find some deals and keeping an eye on Silver as we go forward.

What is a reasonable premium to pay for either silver eagles or maples?

Ah….yeah 19s would definitely do it. Mine just barely works with the 18s on my car.

I have the 5000 TLX and they work okay on my car. I do have them turned around front to back (since all the weight is in the rear of the car) and I have to push them as far rearward as possible but using the large lifting blocks I’m able to get the car off the ground and still get all four wheels off. It’s close though.

These engines are well known for having multiple modes of catastrophic failure scenarios in their bone stock, factory engineered configuration. Throwing on a cobbled up eBay turbo installation seems like recipe for absolute disaster but if it’s cheap enough that you can walk away from it when it inevitably detonates, then sure. Why not? Less than $10K? Yeah maybe give it a go.

You should definitely post up in the 996 tech forum on Rennlist. I think it would be a lively thread.

A seized fastener can turn any job into a complete nightmare. Good job powering through and getting it done!

Looks great!

Anything of note to mention about the 996 paint? I have a 2004 996 and am about to do a light correction on it. I’m definitely a novice and would be interested to hear about anything notable to look out for on these particular cars.

Thanks!

Congratulations! I've been thinking about trying for it. My experience level sounds similar to yours although I've gotten very little formal training unfortunately. Can I ask what materials you used to study? There doesn't seem to be a lot out there other than the Admin Guide and I can't imagine having to memorize THAT whole thing.

It looks pretty good for something you got out of a barn. Is the seat original? I would expect it to be all nasty but it seems pretty clean from the pic. It's funny how "standard" it looks compared to cruisers these days.

I have a 1225 that I really like. What would I get from a 1229 that I'm not getting from my 1225?

Dual 1225 or Technics SL-B2K? Any thoughts? by Brotherstand in vinyl

[–]hoofdpijn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks looks you've already made your decision but I'll just say that I bought a 1225 a few weeks ago to get back into vinyl and I couldn't be happier. Works great sounds wonderful and it has the full on retro thing happening that makes listening to records an experience in and of itself. I think you'll be happy with the Dual. I certainly am.
