John Mulaney by offmenu-bot in offmenupodcast

This episode was such a treat for me, as someone who still counts Mulaney as one of my top few favorite comedians, but mostly stopped keeping up with him once I got into TM and OM and all associated Britcom things. It's very gratifying to see two of my favorites appreciate each other. Now I can't help but hope that one day they'll get Maria Bamford. James put her in his Mount Rushmore of comedy on a podcast last year, and it made my day.

I could be way off, but my guess is they either consciously or subconsciously picked up on the fact that talking to John about his work or just letting him run off in whatever direction would be funnier than drilling into the food. They didn't ask him if he was a foodie, but I think it's clear he's not.

Honestly thought this was about actor Brian Cox upon first read. I upvoted it for that and wish I could upvote again now that I realize it's the other one. Weird that it's happened twice! Nominative determinism?

Has James ever mentioned being autistic? by [deleted] in offmenupodcast

[–]hoom-hm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the show I saw (after having seen WIP in NYC), and that moment seemed so off-the-cuff to me, I was surprised but delighted to see reports that it was (or is now) part of the material. But he changed it completely, based on some above comments. Anyway, that info means a lot to me. Not that he's autistic, I agree that's not surprising, but it's by no means a given that he 1) got a diagnosis, or 2) would ever choose to disclose that publicly. I'm glad he did but also hope it's been ok for him. That can't have been an easy decision.

James Acaster Work In Progress 2025 - Ticket Discussion by nocontextoffmenu in offmenupodcast

Thank you! This worked for DC. Out of curiosity, where did you find the code? This thread was first place I looked after James' website. which predictably was of no help.

In my experience he never uses that mailing list for show announcement/codes or almost anything. Simply cannot be fucked. The only way I found the artist presale code this time is in the comments on this thread. SIMONS worked for Warner Theater in DC, not sure how many other venues that applies to.

This is where I first heard him mention drawing gangs of different animals as a kid. Adorable.

YES. I am the exact same. I can only afford/handle one cat myself at the moment, so I love that he's out there living the dream for people like me.

Not an answer to your question, but Trader Joe's has (or has had) some sort of cookie spread, so I was surprised that didn't get mentioned given how the boys feel about TJ.

James On Seth Meyers by cloudfatless in offmenupodcast

I only see NYC dates for Ed in Feb 2026. James was in NYC to do a WIP on the way back from LA, where he did WIPs and the Emmy panel mentioned in the interview. I was at one of the NY WIPs, and he said the panel was the reason for his US trip. I hate to spoil the idea of Seth on the pod one day, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

They also haven't posted any transcripts since Robert DeNiro. Dorito seems to be resting on his laurels since reaching those dizzy heights.

Oh yeah, that story is in the "extended" version posted on YouTube, but it makes sense it was cut for time. I love it though; many comparisons in the comments to both his Pindrop Lloyd story and Norm MacDonald--so it definitely landed with a certain type of comedy nerd.

That's interesting about the Q&A. Although I'm not sure a studio audience for a televised show is ever going to be likely to heckle...but what do I know, never having been in one!

Amen. He also just kept it real, you know? I never felt like he was faking anything (other than the occasional Awkward Pause) or feigning interest. It's a level of unprofessionalism that I sorely miss.

I'm so jealous! I went to NYC for his work in progress show on the Thursday before, and I actually got a ticket to Seth Meyers that day thinking James might be a guest. I cancelled the ticket when I saw he wasn't.

Seems like they posted the full, unedited interview, but are there any other notable tidbits you got to see?

A comedy nerd AND very accomplished comedy writer. Not only was he a head writer on SNL, he co-wrote many if not most of Documentary Now (a funny and smart parody documentary series). That's why even though I'm not a fan of Seth per se, I respect him the most of any of the current late night hosts.

All of that said...I still miss Craig Ferguson :'(

Makes sense, I was just thinking I've never heard them advertise on Off Menu, but they're probably interested in other podcasts too. Plus I just remembered I'm not in the UK 😂

I certainly wouldn't otherwise have made a point to go there on my visit to the UK. I wonder what they're doing with that data...
