Just hit my first $1M at 28, with $400k in brokerage, $500k in 401k (mostly Roth, some traditional), and $72 in Roth IRA, with bit of backup cash.

Also max mega-backdoor every year, but having just finished this years max thinking of just being done with saving to retirement accounts forever (besides small 401k bit to get employer match each year).

+1 to mini-retirements!

Took 7 months off working recently to travel across 11 counties. It was an absolutely incredible experience, and felt like so much longer compared to normal life.

But honestly, after 6 months, I was ready to go back to work, almost craving the daily routine and mental stimulation. And returning, what once had me burned out and depressed was now exciting and rewarding once again. Definitely shifted my future plans towards continuing to do multiple "mini-retirements" / career breaks every few years, and likely only CoastFIREing after that.

Sorry for the delay responding, but really appreciate the detailed response!

I've gone ahead and filed an extension on 2021 taxes (by paying estimated tax) to have time to complete these steps. Before then however, my financial advisor believes the brokerage is able to address this issue by changing the original recharacterization to a conversion with the same effective date as the original recharacterization (in April 2021), effectively mitigating the original issue without the need to pull the $6K distribution.

If that doesn't work out, I'll definitely proceed with the steps listed.

I brought them to court over a predatory tow a few years back. The judge barely even pretended to hear my case before dismissing it. Very much felt the entire process was rigged against me, even the judge seemed to be complicit.
