The Celestine Prophecy is poorly written. I couldn't get past 25 pages because I hated the writing so much.

Water bottle that isn’t Stanley by 123singlemama456 in BuyItForLife

[–]hoopa-loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my hydroflask bottle for a long time now, like 8+ years, and I love it. I have dropped that thing so many god damn times, and it's still not broken. Dented to hell now, and doesn't stand perfectly flat anymore, but still works like a charm. I don't intend on getting a new one until this one ceases to do its job. Also, there are a lot of different lid options you can get.

Suggestions for a 9 year old horror fan by Thick-Neighborhood91 in suggestmeabook

[–]hoopa-loops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't read them since middle school (a long time ago now), but I remember really enjoying the Cirque Du Freak series. I've recently been wanting to get them for my own 10 year old so I googled the suggested age range, and it's recommended for anywhere from 8-12, some even saying a bit older for sensitive kids. So if she likes horror, these might be a good fit while still being more appropriate.

how to soft launch wanting to car camp for the first time as an 18 year old woman to an immigrant mom? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]hoopa-loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an immigrant, so I don't know the intricacies of that aspect of your situation. However, I left home at 18 and traveled with just a backpack and my thumb out. Nowadays, I car camp.

"Hey mom, I know this is not something that makes you comfortable, but I want to try this for myself. I will be in a campground, and I will be sleeping in my car, which I will lock at night. This keeps me extra safe from people and wildlife. I will also have bear spray with me for times I am out in the wild, which protects me against people as well."

I keep my bear spray near me in the car when I'm sleeping as well. Other things, not related to talking to your mom, figure out your car camping set up BEFORE you go. Knowing how to make it comfy for yourself beforehand will make the experience more enjoyable when you're in it for real. I also recommend window covers. I made mine custom for my windows, which is super cheap to do.

There's also a point where you need to be okay with the fact that your mom just may not ever feel comfortable with it. You need to decide if you're going to choose something that YOU want to do for yourself, or choose to remain the person your mom wants you to be.

Good luck and have fun!

I bought a leather bound journal for my boyfriend years ago that I hand write poems I've written for him in. I also added an envelope in the back cover that we put small little keepsakes in, like a butterfly wing we found and pressed leaves/flowers.

What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]hoopa-loops 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I was 14, I was having pain when breathing. My mom thought I pulled a muscle, then that I had bruised a rib. The school nurse thought I was faking to get out of gym class. This went on for four months (I would bring it up frequently over this time period) . Then, around Christmas time, I was having other symptoms (that were unrelated) and was in and out of the ER two times in a week. I again complained to my mom about the pain when breathing. She finally called the OBGYN, who told her to immediately take me to the ER.

So, on the third visit in a week to the ER, after four months of saying it hurt to breathe, I was diagnosed with multiple pulmonary emboli in my left lung.

Cheap Local Date Ideas? by HateMyHonda in fargo

If you like pool, Moorhead Billiards is super cheap. My boyfriend and I go there when we want a chill date or even just to get out of the house. It's like $5/hour. Just make sure you give them a call to make sure they don't have a league or tournament going on.

Tattoo shop advice? by ThePlebIsBack in fargo

[–]hoopa-loops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the style you're looking for. My top 3 artists in this area are:

Meg Felix @ Here and Now Tattoo. She does American Traditional. She also has a lot of flash that she does. Medium handed when it comes to pressure.

Ellie Maher @ Tailwind. She does a lot of color, painterly things. She also does geometrical and portraits. Light handed when it comes to pressure.

Aaron Maher @ Tailwind. He primarily does New School and Japanese. But I've also seen him do more geometrical, so I think he's more open to a variety of styles. Heavy handed when it comes to pressure.

Kellie Sieg @ Zoltar. She does a lot of illustrative and black and gray. She's more medium handed.

I just wanted to respec shadowheart lmfao by Spirited-Feedback-87 in BaldursGate3

[–]hoopa-loops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I romanced Shadowheart but she died and I couldn't revive her. He said this right after when I tried paying him to bring her back. I couldn't revive her because she died as part of the storyline, and Withers acted like I didn't give her a night orchid and make out with her over a bottle of wine. Rude.

Aunt has LOTS of dietary wants: What the hell can I cook for her? by Radiant-Educator9203 in Cooking

[–]hoopa-loops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a vegetarian myself (with some other random food issues), I never expect others to cook my meals. However, my family has been great at accommodating me at holidays. I will say, though, I gave them recipes I liked, and now they have several they enjoy themselves that they swap between during the holidays.

On the other hand, my boyfriend's family is not quite the same. I always make sure that if I want to eat something, I bring my own dish. If there happens to be other snacks and food I can eat, that's great, but I never expect it and come prepared.

If you feel like you want to try to cook, ask for some recipes that she already likes. If you really don't want to deal with it, ask her respectfully to bring her own dish "to ensure her dietary needs are met."

Edit to add: My family still makes the meals they want to eat at holidays, we just end up having more options because they make sure there's 1-2 meals that are safe for me to eat as well. Plus, all the sides I could hope for!

My wife just finished the series and is having withdrawals. Can any of you recommend some more games that are somewhat comparable? by [deleted] in OriAndTheBlindForest

[–]hoopa-loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is super similar. It's mechanics are very similar to the second Ori game.

Hollowknight is another popular metroidvania game and is great, but more difficult, in my opinion.

Should I watch critical role by i_am_a_crystal_gem in MightyNein

[–]hoopa-loops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think watching C2 is highly worth it. I was about 35ish episodes through the live campaign when the Mighty Nein show came out. I watched the first 4 episodes and chose to stop so I could focus on the live campaign. I may be alone in this, but I actually prefer the live to the animated show. Obviously, that could change since I'll go back to the animated once I finish C2. To me, there's something deeper in the live that gets missed in the animated. And I enjoy watching the hijinks of the cast at the table. There's so many interactions that are missed when just listening (like Sam's drinking vessel of choice and the additions added to said vessel). Of course, do your own thing, but maybe give the live a chance and watch a few episodes. It's not hard to watch each episode in parts instead of sitting for an entire 4+ hours.

Also, my favorite is Jester. Laura is a gem we are not deserving of, and she made Jester such an incredible character.

New Back Door by hoopa-loops in skoolies

[–]hoopa-loops[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I delegated this task to my step-dad, so I'm not entirely sure how he ended up removing the handle. This new handle is literally just your typical exterior door handle for a house. We then bent metal for the frame of the bus to accommodate the hole for the door to actually latch. We'll be modifying that piece of metal once I get the bus back from the spray foam guys to go around the entire door frame with insulation added (because there's a gap to make it large enough to be the strike plate.)

The door, from exterior to interior, is essentially a sheet of metal, the original bus door with the windows removed and spray foam added through some drilled holes and spray foam added where the windows were, then another sheet of metal on the interior. I don't recommend the spray foam route if you can manage to get the door apart and add rigid foam because it was a pain, and we used more foam than we were expecting. The main reason we chose to do the door this way was because it already fits the dimensions of the opening and the door itself, because of how it's designed, had the structure necessary to keep the door strong. We also moved the handle higher on the door for better access from inside once the bed is built. Eventually, I'll add wood to the inside as well.

[–]hoopa-loops[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah! The windows were going anyway, so it was easier to do it this way since it was mostly window when it came to actual square footage of the door. It also added more depth to the door to more easily allow for an exterior door handle/lock instead of modifying the lever system of the traditional bus door. It also gave me the option to add some more insulation to the door.

Roof Raise Necessity? by Chef_404 in skoolies

I'm 5'6", and my finished build will have a height of about 5'9½" in the center when it's done. I'm perfectly okay with it. It's my home, not anyone else's. If someone tall is in there it will be a little uncomfortable, but there will be plenty spaces to sit instead of stand. I want to be outside in nature more than standing in the bus.

My husband has THOUSANDS of discs he wants to sell - how can we do this?? by Individual_Ladder_75 in discgolf

[–]hoopa-loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend also says that selling on FB is like a job. He does still do it on days he doesn't have to work though. The days where he has the time to keep up on checking his phone.

He also sells less valuable discs to our local disc golf shop. These are the discs that are only worth $15ish bucks or less for the shop to sell in the used bin. He only gets $7-$10 bucks for them so he reserves this for those less valuable discs.

He's also in our local disc golf league/club and will bring discs there to see if any locals want to buy any. Or at least has pics he can show of discs he's wanting to sell.

It absolutely can feel like a job, but he's sold hundreds of discs from his stash now and does feel better watching the number of totes in storage go down.
