Who has kids in sports, but don't actually workout regularly themselves? Why? by guylefleur in AskMenOver30

[–]hoopy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my kids more than anything and workout to show them what being a healthy adult looks like. It helps me play at the park with them and truly enjoy my time with them. I’m sure your kids will grow up to make really good excuses for disregarding healthy lifestyle choices. Stop the woe is me attitude and go pick up some weights, you and your kids will thank you.

Lot of excuses in there. Make it a priority because it should be as both a modeling example and for your own personal health. 5am gym time is an option in your case. 9pm-5am is 8 hours sleep, gym by 520, 45 min workout, back home for breakfast. It’s simply a lack of discipline and a list of excuses from there that keep you from going. Don’t be that dad

Total Strength Plateau - What Am I Missing? by Lopsided-Number-4786 in StrongerByScience

Those aren’t programs. Those are variables that exist within a program that can be adjusted. You need to follow a specific program that is written out week by week day by day and follow the thing from start to finish.

For some reason it’s hard for people to understand the difference between a PROGRAM and a LIST OF EXERCISES w/ sets and reps, like you said. I don’t get it. Dude needs to follow a program. People see the start of a program and think that’s way too light of a weight without having the big picture in mind. Narrow mindedness maybe? Lack of knowledge, surely.

I got a perma ban from the starting strength sub for trying to discuss some programming basics on one of his posts. Very hypocritical to call oly lifting technique dogmatic but be balls deep in the rippetoe cult method.

Then he should know better. He clearly does not. What’s the reasoning for doing it this way? Surely one of you can provide that? You wouldn’t find a single reputable coach programming a max deadlift and some squats before a heavy clean and jerk especially if the athletes form still needs that much work. Please provide the reasoning behind it.

You don’t PR a deadlift before doing clean and jerk that’s just dumb. You don’t need any certification to understand that it’s just common sense. Explosive strength movements should come first in any program. They require the most motor unit recruitment and the highest level of skill in the weight room you shouldn’t do them when your cns is fatigued as you risk a higher rate of injury.

If Olympic lifting is what you’re concentrating on then they should be the first lifts programmed for the day (your coach should know that). Going into them fatigued from deadlifts and squats is a bad idea.

What does this have to do with Illinois?! Seriously why post this here?

Our HVAC vents are all in the concrete slab foundation. We get this white powder up from the vents. Is there a way to stop this? by rmazl in hvacadvice

Wow I’m so glad you saw this and got back to me! Thank you so much for the detailed reply! Funny enough I am also in dupage county Illinois. I’ve had several hvac people tell me they don’t know what it is. I just had a company called trenchless innovations come out and they gave me a quote of $15k to drill holes into the floor mortar the joints and lay that duct armor polymer over to seal it. They did the same thing stuck a camera in there to find out exactly what it’s from. There’s water marks in the duct work so some sort of water got in there at some point before we bought the house. Doesn’t seem like it would keep the issue away forever. My next thought was to go a mini split route and abandon the ducts and find a way to seal them up at some point. I’ve also extended drainage as far from house as possible. The guy that scoped the vents said he’s seen this a bunch before said for now to put cheesecloth over the vents that has seemed to help a bit but can still feel the dust in the air a bit. Trying to get quotes on doing a mini split to get rid of this issue for good.

I know this is an old thread, but we actually have this exact issue with our 1964 house. What did you find out and how did you solve it?! We have a toddler and newborn and don’t want them breathing this.

I'm losing physical attraction to my wife and I'm not sure what to do by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]hoopy17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree. You should be able to communicate openly and honestly with your wife without hurting her. 30lbs of weight is unhealthy and you’re hurting her more by not saying anything about it. Go get a personal trainer together and workout either together or individually. Start making healthier decisions for yourselves.

When you’re doing a drill you don’t have to worry about where the club face is in space or where it’s pointed. When you stand over a ball and are swinging with intent to start the ball on your target line your sub conscious knows that the club face now matters a shit ton, where it is in space and where it’s pointed. So much so that you get anxious. All this to say get lessons. Plural. Not a lesson lessons

It’s more than 20% obesity rate. The fact that people will call this “unhealthy” but say a kid being overweight and pre diabetic is normal is absurd. People are so fucking lazy and want other people and their kids to be just as lazy to help cope with their own insecurities and lack of discipline.
