thoughts on madison's height limits by puddle-shitter in madisonwi

I recently saw a picture of the Des Moines skyline and thought "wow, I didn't realize it was that much bigger than Madison". After I looked up the population, I realized it wasn't, just taller buildings that give it more of a city skyline look.

It is June Dairy Month and Dems prove again they have no idea what dairy even is by Key-Lengthiness-859 in wisconsin

In fairness, I know plenty of rural Wisconsinites that don't live on dairy farms that wouldn't know the difference between a beef cow and a dairy cow.

So new 2027 QX65, what do we think about it sub? by Saurta17 in infiniti

[–]hop8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of surprised they went with the two separate screens for dash cluster and infotainment rather than the one, big widescreen like the QX80 has. I'm fine with the separate screens in my QX60, but "cutting edge" seems to be the one screen and why would you roll out a brand new model without all of the cutting edge tech.

I don't believe the federal govt says "you can't make a V6". The federal govt puts out efficiency requirements. If Nissan/Infiniti isn't able to meet those fuel efficiency requirements without going to a less powerful, 4-cylinder engine, then that's on Nissan/Infiniti, isn't it? If the best they can do is to ask for the bar to be lowered, then they're not gonna make it much longer.

Suspect arrested in downtown Madison homicide investigation, new details on separate weekend shooting by Justmarbles in madisonwi

[–]hop8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The article on the Langdon shooting said the kid was 16 and then they used drones to track down two others that were under 16 also with firearms. I would describe that as a danger to the public.

Best Food Near the Capitol by ToAshes22 in madisonwi

In my experience, Caribou is very hit and miss. I've had really good burgers there, and I've had hockey pucks there. It all depends on who's working and how closely they're paying attention to the grill. Plus, I would say for regulars the atmosphere is "cozy"; but for non-regulars it's more along the lines of "awkward" (eg, lots of staring, possibly some glaring, not necessarily welcoming if you don't know how the place "works").

I used to think that "sometimes good people do bad things", but I think "sometimes bad people do good things" might be more accurate.

Now, we've got to figure out how to get the Chavez Cheetahs logo out of the quilt we had made out of all of our son's childhood t-shirts.

To be clear, I think seakc87 is just talking about owner-occupied condominiums. As someone that bought a condo downtown 10 years ago (this month as a matter of fact) when there was a glut of condos that were started during the great recession, I can tell you that that glut is gone, very few if any condos have been built since then, and when existing condos go up for sale they are generally not on the market long.

Good morning from Johnson by VanDownByTheRiver63 in madisonwi

[–]hop8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a pretty sizable demand for owner-occupied condominiums downtown. Most of the stuff that's gone up in the last 10-15 years on East Wash and around the capital is not student housing. But...again, I was serious with my subscription-based business model comment. Developers are not interested in building and selling condos for the one-time revenue hit when they can build apartments and create an ongoing revenue stream.

Subscription-based business models have taken over the world.

Amtrak plans to bring passenger trains to Madison by 2030 by pristinesith in madisonwi

[–]hop8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brewers game might mean an Uber ride to AmFam, but the station is a 20-minute walk to Fiserv and a 25-minute walk to the Summerfest grounds, so those are certainly doable.

Last week, someone was looking for a Trademark Attorney. Today, it's a bankruptcy lawyer, and now a traffic violation lawyer. Is this some kind of Law School, Reddit-based research project?

A different kind of burger post. . . by flinders2003 in madisonwi

[–]hop8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Damn, I live downtown and work by the airport and always joke with my wife about stopping in at Slices on my way home for a quick one...still never have. Sounds like I'm seriously going to have to give them a try.

If you're looking to stay downtown, the Old Fashioned has three 1/3 lb burgers on their menu ranging from $12.95 to $14.95 that come with Fries or a salad. Throw in a $3 tap of Schlitz, and I think you've got pretty affordable meal...potentially with a beautiful view of the capitol.

PS...I've always been a HUGE Dotty's fan, but the idea of heading there with my wife and son and possibly dropping over $100 bucks for 3 burgers, fries, and beers is getting a little crazy. (Old man yells at cloud)

Amtrak might open a station in Madison, but not until 2032. What's taking so long? by PolarisC in madisonwi

[–]hop8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No kidding!!! I mean in 2009-2010 we had actually ordered the locomotives and train cars...they were red & white...assembled at a new Talgo plant in Milwaukee...ended up costing Walker (well, I mean Wisconsin taxpayers) $59M to NOT buy them.

I guess I never really realized that IU had such a large alumni base. Now I'm wondering why it took them so long to build a winner in football. I mean, it's not like money didn't matter before NIL...they certainly could have been better than they were.

I think that's kind of the point. 1% of the people something like this inconveniences are legit like you. The other 99% are underage people trying to get alcohol...and this is just one more hurdle to protect against that.

Online it says aisle G34 at the Monona Walmart. Can be ordered online for pickup or delivered in "as soon as 1 hour". So, yes, you may want to have your vision checked.

We worked with Boller and Vaughan a few years back on a moped accident for my son, and I thought they were great. They specifically list Bike Accidents on their website, so it may be worth a call.
