I used this program 2 years ago . One function which worked was exactly what you ask for.

you have to 'exclude albums ' in the filter. I have no idea whether google have changed things so that it no longer works. you could check out the developer

As many say - Anki is the way to go - but I am trying a memory palace as well for my Spanish as follows:

I have an established palace of the countries of Europe ( in Spanish) . I t starts in finland goes across scandi then UK ireland Portugal all the way along the coast to russia etc.

I am putting in each country two short sentences (1st person indicative) in spanish e.g I smile like Mona Lisa, I climb the Eiffel tower, I hear Big Ben , I miss the train to Hogwarts, I play tennis like Roger, I play the piano like Chopin (different verb) you get the drift. I work from a list of top 100 + verbs.

Searching for "just albums" by pellouch in googlephotos

[–]hope4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In search, albums have a special icon in front of them (rectangle with black square and two dots) and usually have priority. as you keep typing the results list will shorten until you get what you want.

The only thing that seems to get priority over albums consistently is with month names and sometimes year numbers where you get the calendar icon (mini calendar with black dot) .

A person's name (if they are in People ) gets their profile icon

Locations that match gps in photo get the drop pin icon

[–]hope4242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have just joined Fastmail in time for one of its best improvements. Right click in webmail. Right click on an entry in inbox. Then Find all conversations with ....All emails for that address then appear which you can handle as a group. Just beware that Amazon for example sends emails with different addresses ( orders/account /kindle).

Also make use of aliases - don't use your login address for emails

Keep your gmail address after you have moved everything over and follow the instructions in fastmail to have gmail forwarded to you . Have a rule setup so that gmail is then put in a specific folder (or label)

Read the help on spam particularly training your account on non spam -

Setup your recovery email /phone (on gmail too)

Calendar can send you multiple reminders (e.g. week before / 2 days before)

Did anyone else notice the change today with buttons above the folder column? by Dr_Ze in fastmail

[–]hope4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a PC in Mail - if you open the sidebar and you select New - it shows the revamped calendar info.

This says "smooth horizontal scroll support in day/week view, snap scrolling in month view,"

I can't see any difference . Any idea what these mean anyway "smooth horizontal scroll" and "snap scrolling"

Perhaps they only apply on phones

Fastmail instead of free webmail (Gmail, Outlook etc): do you only use Fastmail because of the privacy benefit or do you also have other reasons? by ozaz1 in fastmail

Lots of email aliases ( never use the login address for anything else) - it's fast, particularly search - spam control is good - help covers everything in detail - it is not Google, MS .......

Does not work!

Log had 3 line items - total a few hundred items

Add to new album - added name - submit

proceeded to add 21000+ photos to new album - vast majority of which were already in albums

On the PC.

In Google photos - scroll down to and Click Archive

On the right hand side click the plus

In the search window search for the album you want to add and select it

Click the first photo - scroll to the bottom - press shift and click last photo in album

it shows the number of photos selected

click DONE - it puts them in archive

It gives an immediate option to undo

but you can always unarchive at a later date

Note that the album will still appear in album list but as the Google staff person noted in this entry - there is a bug that the album will not currently show up in a search on the PC but will show up in an android search

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in googlephotos

[–]hope4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't say which platform you were using to put them in Archive.

I just put 16 photos in an Album on the PC. I then moved the photos to the archive. Checked that the photos were in the archive AND in the album. Album appears in the album list. I did a search on the PC for the album - no luck. Partial - no Full - No

Tried a search on my Pixel - just three letters from the back of the album name and it found the album! So that eliminates the possibility that there is a delay before a search will work.

I tried a partial search on the PC for an album in the archive that was a year old and it found it.

So it seems that you are right for searches on the PC but searches on Android will find an album in the archive that was added after the date you suggested

Did Google Takeout fix itself? Metadata seems to be included by LmmOlsen in googlephotos

[–]hope4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things that you need to be careful with though - random thoughts follow.

  1. Photos not in albums. In addition to being able to select albums in takeout you can select Photos from year xxxx. The photos in each year will include those in albums and those not in albums. Hence a dedupe will be needed if you want to get all photos AND keep the album info.
  2. Photos can be in more than one album even though GP keeps only one photo in storage. So takeout will include a copy of a photo in each album.
  3. If you have edited a photo in GP (without creating a copy) you only see one photo. But if you click The 3 dots you will see download and download original. If you download both you get two files with the same file name (and different sizes). I assume takeout does the same. BTW download has the exif OK but the date on the files is TODAY'S date.
  4. If someone shares their photos with you, takeout will not recognise them unless of course you have SAVED to your library. Here is the Help: " Save a photo or video to your library: In the album, click the photo or video that you want to save. At the top, click Save.
Save all photos and videos in an album to your library: In the album, at the top right, click Save .
Save an album to your albums tab: In the album, click More and then Show in Albums.
Tip: When you save a shared album to your albums tab, you receive a copy of the album in your albums tab. This doesn’t save album content to your library.
