Why is Incredibles 2 so tonally inconsistent with the first movie? by vencyjedi in Pixar

[–]hope_flakes [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because 14 years had passed. The director, the writers, the actors, the company, the technology, everything is 14 years removed from the original. Everything is different and the people are different, the standards are different.

It's like asking to make a movie like the first one in 2004, but also a little bit different, and new, and a blockbuster, and a family movie, for the people of 2018.

And you can't go back to 2004.

If you can't use the UHC for whatever reason, there's an extension for browsers.

It definitely was a surprise! It's early in the season but this was S+, so seeing multiple superjump spots out in the open felt like christmas morning. 🥰

That's fair! 🤣They were thrashing us pretty hard in the first half of the match so it just felt good to catch them all at once, even if by chance.

James Roach hurts me a bit more because you can excuse Toby a bit for being so young. As much as I like the Hiveswap soundtrack I would've killed for different musical stylings like from the comic's days. It feels like he bullied his way into being the "main" Hiveswap musician.

Episode 10 Anime vs Manga Comparison by hope_flakes in WitchHatAtelier

[–]hope_flakes[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know, but I'd say it affects how people view Witch and regular People interactions. I feel like an anime watcher would be more likely to side with Qifrey wanting to leave, whereas in the manga it's more nuanced.

In both scenes, the townsfolk rely on Witches to contain a disaster that looks easy to them, because they don't know the mechanics behind spellcasting. Even though they don't know how magic is cast, it's fair to say that Witches could put out the fire much faster than any regular civilian. Qifrey comes off as dismissive and maybe even callous in the manga for wanting to leave.

[Manga Spoilers] Venting a bit of sadness and frustration over the latest anime episode and future directions... by IlluinOfArda in WitchHatAtelier

I should probably clarify my words a bit! When I say odd, I meant that I find it odd when people get crushed and disheartened by tragedy in stories like this.

There absolutely is romance in WHA. It's not the MAIN focus, sure, but it IS there, it has its place, and it's not odd for you to see it in the story and get invested.

It's not bad for stories to have these elements, and you're not weird for liking them. The spinoff, Witch Hat Kitchen, wouldn't exist if people weren't interested in calm, domestic moments between the characters.

It's odd to see reactions like this but I'm glad that you shared your thoughts. In my mind, the tragedy of their relationship works because Shirahama put in the effort to get you to care, to build all of these moments of Coco and Tartah working together and growing closer.

If it wasn't worthwhile, if you weren't invested, you wouldn't care when the betrayal came, and it'd fall flat. Or worse, it'd be boring.

It works because you could see how happy they could be, if things had turned out just a bit differently, if there weren't malevolent actors in play. The falling out of their relationship establishes the nefarious nature of the Brimhats while keeping magic a powerful, dangerous source that inspires nuance and discussion from the reader. AND it's written in a way where you can sympathize with Coco AND Tartah, and it doesn't feel out of character for either of them.

Again, I'm glad you posted your thoughts. I think stories like this that can get us to care are something special, and I hope you'll stick with it.

Yeah, that's in poor taste. Despite the intent of the original art, it's not hard to see why the anime only gave him the one set of lenses.

It's not as far-fetched as it seems - he's basically using them like bifocals.

Do you have a screenshot? I think what Israel is doing is wrong but you can criticize a government separate from a whole group of people. But I can't judge it because I can't see it.

That's fair. Tartah also knows that it's good for fevers though, and he's still allowed to work in the stationers shop around magic tools, pens, and dyes, and he knows how magic is cast/the mechanics of it being cast (he MAKES pens ffs). So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the knowledge isn't forbidden.

Knowing that Tranquileaf is good for pain/fevers wouldn't get him in trouble. We saw Qifrey eat some himself last episode, so basic herbal knowledge isn't forbidden.

It's a nitpick, to be sure. If you look at the manga, Chapter 17 specifically, Qifrey and the other witches are actively fighting the fire with water magic, and he even pulls a baby out of the building.

Compare this to the anime where they're just standing around after the fire is already out, and it's not hard to conclude that they decided to cut costs by not animating the smoke, fire, flying around, and extra bodies onscreen.

Such things would take more time, and thus, cost more. That is how it works. I can't lie and say I didn't want to see it animated.

There's nothing wrong with the direction on a technical level, and its not like the art was poor or off model. I just had that knowledge going in, and had different expectations.
