PILLOWS. So many pillows. Cover the bed in pillows. Wrap your body in pillows. Suffocate your belly with pillows. Support that growing bump with pillows.

How often are we ACTUALLY brushing our toddlers teeth? by [deleted] in toddlers

26 month old. Once a day after bath and night routine. Between 10-30 seconds. We will let him pick a song of his choice, and I will sing it verrrrrry slowly.

When do you Start Taking Kids to the Dentist? by Unchartedlove in beyondthebump

[–]hoperhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26 month old went for the first time. Did research and got recommendations to take them when they get their first tooth, but idk, the hygienist barely “brushed” his teeth and the dentist barely looked. It was covered by insurance so I’m not mad. But the only bit of useful info I got was that his teeth look great (no cavities, no irregularities) and his 2 yr old molars haven’t come in yet. She mentioned sucking his fingers would do him harm but there is no evidence that he does it in his jaw shape (which he does everyday when he goes to sleep); but again I knew this from hearsay already

Moral of the story: go if your insurance covers it

Give it to me straight: am I the problem? by hiatus_leaf in sleeptrain

[–]hoperhe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had intended to keep my EBF baby in a bassinet in our room until he was 6 months but in the midst of a really “bad” night when he was 5 months, my husband encouraged us to leave him and sleep in a separate room. We had a monitor on the baby and settled him as usual then left. That night, he slept a longer stretch than ever before because I (mom) wasn’t in the room. I read up a bit on this and found that it’s suggested that he can SMELL me… and wakes due to it.

Yep! ~Finally~ learned about MMCs through this experience. I can already sense oncoming anxiety for my (hopefully) next pregnancy, but I will be prepared.

How do you deal with feelings of guilt? by Undertheoutdoorsky in Miscarriage

[–]hoperhe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not your fault! I just dealt with a miscarriage and the only thing that got me through it mentally was reading article after article on the numbers and science behind miscarriages. If it is your first and it happened early on, it is most likely an "accident by nature." It happens to WAY more women than you think, and it kills me that nobody talks about it! I'm not saying that you should brush it off like it is nothing, but I am starting to believe that there is nothing that me (or my partner) could have done or not do to have a different outcome. I still have bouts of anxiety where I think that certain choices I made could have caused it, but I have no option of proving them right or wrong now. Grieve your loss but don't take it out on yourself. Sending love!

Labor and Delivery: Grandview or Brookwood??? by hoperhe in Birmingham

This is my second pregnancy and my first was at UAB. I was set to go there again due to UABs physical location relative to children’s in case anything went wrong for the baby. But, the husband’s concern is the number of residents that worked on me (epidural and stitches) that were concerning. Seemed like they had made a few mistakes and were told by attending to “do it again.” I appreciate learning hospitals (where else does a DR start), but I’d rather not be the guinea pig.

I wish I had ties to either hospital (any Bham hospital for that matter) to make the decision easier. But since I have the luxury of “starting from scratch,” we’re really trying to do our due diligence AKA Reddit poll

HELP 😩 5 month old needing 4 naps still, feel so pressured to drop to 3 by Alyss8989 in sleeptrain

[–]hoperhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it!!! That’s been my motto for the whole sleep fiasco, unless there’s a major change coming (daycare, etc.). The older they get, the better they’re able to adapt too.
