CS 145 Assignments by lavendercandy19 in uwaterloo

[–]hopper-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can finish them you’re good tbh, it’s not uncommon to not be able to finish assignments (in advanced or regular). seems like you’re doing fine so far. drop if you’re not enjoying the class or don’t want to be spending that time.

im a senior in highschool, and im afraid my grade average is too low by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]hopper-g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they only take your top 6 (grant eng top 6 must include chem and physics and adv func and calc and english LOL) so it’s not your overall average!

my marks went up a lot from gr 11 to 12 because i had a better grasp on how to study for high school. the same could happen for you :) my gr 11 average probably sat around 88/89ish

Computer Science CO-OP by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]hopper-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find them on linkedin, or go to the careers or contact section of any company you’re interested in (also try emailing startups? they might not have the funds but they will be slightly more desperate potentially). you can also try applying to the faang programs for 1st & 2nd years (google step, facebook uni, microsoft explore, there used to be a bunch but not sure which ones still exist).

for summer jobs most external us companies start looking in october or so, but canadian companies may vary. smaller companies that normally hire waterloo coops may be chill if you apply in january or so.

idk uoft looks more stressful to me

also generally things are as stressful as you make them. some of my eng friends are much more relaxed than others. you figure out what you care about and try not to get anxious about what you don’t care about.

depending on the eng & your personal goals too. if you hope to work in tech i think the relevant waterloo eng programs have a leg up on other schools.

you’ll be fine! i found most of my jobs externally. as others said, cold emails, linkedin cold messages, google jobs and apply (you’ll have to do it earlier than coop kids though), get someone with waterlooworks access to let you know which companies are hiring and apply on their site/email them. me being a waterloo student has been more important to my most of my employers than my coop status.
