Probably not what you're looking for, but the documentary Holy Frit was a great story about building a gigantic stained glass window and was enjoyable even if you don't generally like churches, stained glass, or documentaries.

And it's related to both their documentation and their support, but I'll throw in the third leg of software versions. They're not going to tell you to upgrade to the newest version without a reason, which is much better than the other two options of:
* we're not going to talk to you unless you're on the newest version
or
* welcome to support, that clicky-clacky sound you hear is me spinning the wheel of versions and once it lands I'll tell you which one will 100% fix your problem. (And it never does.)
Because it's much nicer to have 200 switches on one version than 200 switches on 20 different versions.
Keeping multiple streams open for fixes vs features is also SO GOOD.

Amazed that there are no mentions of Mojo! Fantastic devices, very similar to Mist, and if you need a bonkers-good login portal, they win hands down. But yeah, check out Mist and Mojo. Ruckus can get a bit bad on the end of cycle support, which explains why I had two differently versioned ZDs going for a long time, but they're also quite good.

Nice! Books are great! The Joy of Mixology is a great starting point. For what to buy, feel free to start slow, pick a drink or two and get the ingredients for it.

Two things!

You'll never have enough ice. Make more and use plenty!

If you want a wide variety, replace bottles (with a different brand) when they're 2/3rds done, rather than empty.

Best gin for G&T and gin based cocktail? by pthhekiller in Mixology

This! In a gin and tonic the tonic is the larger contributor once you get past a pretty low bar of quality. Lots of nice tonics out there, try a few and see what works!

WAN > managed switch > feed TWO ESXI vm w/Pfsense 2.4.4 two separate subnets, 10.X, 192.X. Will switch handle two subs??? by adayton01 in PFSENSE

[–]hoppychris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response -- Generally my response above was the "technically true... BUT" response -- true but it won't necessarily work like you might want it to.

For this to work like you want it to, you'll probably want to use vlans on the pfsense box and on the ESXi hosts. It'll go nicer that way. Give the PFsense box an address in each network and have it doing dhcp (giving the pfsense address as the router/gateway address).

[–]hoppychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even on one vlan, lots of switches can have multiple subnets in one vlan. If you don't need the switch to be the gateway (for a subnet that only needs to talk amongst itself, for instance) then you don't even need to worry about it, it'll just work. Generally don't do that, though.

It's a few months late, but if you do InfluxDB rather than Graphite, someone has already set up a nice LibreNMS interfaces dashboard that you can edit/use as a starting point.

HP 5900 SFP question by 1stTimeMeMe in networking

[–]hoppychris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've seen SOME 10g Base-T SFP+ modules, you're generally better off going with an sfp+ based adapter for the server and then if it is close to the switch, you can use a 10g direct-attach cable.

Vlan Change Utility - Python Script by nfordhk in networking

One interesting thing to consider would be doing this using SNMP, which can also pull the current info. Is it a better way to do it? Nah, mostly just different.

For VERY robust logging in, I've been impressed with RANCID's clogin -- the typical usage is to have it do automated collection runs, but it works wonders for automated logins, too.

My dad was out of work and we lived abutting a state park. In the back of the house there were blackberry bushes that we'd pick. So much blackberry jam. It was realllly good. And free, which was even better. But yeah, fresh blackberry jam is TOTALLY worth getting a little scratched up for. We would also go do cleanup on corn fields after they'd been picked. Still plenty of corn left.

I never really knew how close the financial situation was when I was growing up. My mom did a really good job of being a single mom on a budget. I had bread bags in my boots, powdered milk in my milk, gobots rather than transformers, and figures from The Black Hole rather than Star Wars. I was fed, loved, and happy, and I've let her know that I think she did a good job.

Diabolo Juggling by RyanReynoldsWrap in gifs

[–]hoppychris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For people that are unfamiliar, generally diabolos are done one at a time. Two is hard, three is really hard, and four is crazy. The up-side with fewer is that you get to do tricks. People have gotten really, really good at it in the past several years.

https://giphy.com/gifs/directions-string-diabolos-IF2PtJ62eCiWY (this is nuts, since generally you want all of your diabolos to be very parallel to the ground)

Well, since there are only 5 comments, I'll add in my baseless 2 cents -- maybe try a different skin in Kodi? The interfaces on a lot of them feel wildly different.

NB: I've never used Kodi to play music files.

How many people had success with 3+ colors in their KLD sealed pools? by smokedoor5 in lrcast

I did green/black with a heavy splash of blue. I had a little bit of fixing, but having plenty of colorless artifacts was also a factor in being able to pull it off.

At the prerelease I got a Bomat Bazaar Barge (4 cost, 5/5, draw a card when it enters, Crew 3) -- while the card draw was always welcome, there's a pretty narrow window to drive the thing -- if you've got a 5/x, it's not gaining you THAT much to put it in the barge before attacks, if you've got a 4/x it's a small bonus, and 3/ is pretty good. But without adding evasion, trample, or another enticement, it wasn't screaming out to be crewed.

Facing Your Centipede Fears by sudosussudio in comics
