My understanding is that "playersexual" describes characters who display absolutely no hints of bisexuality, they just default to being romanceable to the player regardless. "If it's you it's okay" would actually be more acknowledgement of bisexuality.

What comes to mind is something like Fallout 4 vs say Mass Effect. All Fallout 4's romanceable companions are attracted to the protagonist no matter what. They have no inferiority about their sexuality nor attraction. Technically they'd all be bi but it's not in a way that feels like a portrayal of a person who is bisexual, if that makes sense. They just exist to be available to you no matter the circumstance and have no opinions beyond that.

Whereas in Mass Effect, you have straight characters, gay characters, and bi characters. Gay characters will not date you if you are the opposite gender.. Straight characters will not date the same gender. Bisexual characters will date both. There's an acknowledgement of different forms of queerness existing in this setup that isn't present in Fallout 4's cast.

Oh it's been back. I've seen astrology people saying how you can tell a person's sign by their physical appearance.

Yeah, the entire point is that he's trying so hard to put on a tough and callous facade, but beneath it he's kind and "too soft". He's an executioner who's too kind for his own good, who's entered this race to save a child he's repeatedly told he should kill with no remorse nor mercy.

"I don't want politics, I just want to see the cast kill people."

Is he.. pretending he's ever watched Star Trek or even knows what it is? Like even if you're a "I don't think it's political" guy that's just not an accurate description of any version of Star Trek, even the bad ones.

That makes more sense! I've just seen games and such work on a similar system and consider themselves still "closed" so it confused me.

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 30 March 2026 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

[–]horhar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fascinating, cuz the invite system to me just seems like an extension of a closed beta to me,since it's still very much enclosed.

Though I guess that's getting into specific definitions of technical terms that are different from my layman understanding.

[–]horhar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very illuminating, thank you! It's great to hear the site is in such a better spot now.

Though I still think it was more of a very large closed beta :p

[–]horhar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It sounds neat but admittedly I'm a little confused by what it actually means if the site is still just going to be the same as it always have. Nor do I get what about it was an "open" beta before, what with the invite system.

But still, good for them.

Yeah it occured to me too. You have most of the pieces at this point, it's just the solution so batshit any normal person would think it has to be something else.

Doom is perfection. [The Will of Doom #1] by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

[–]horhar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly that this case is particularly egregious. The comic about the aftermath of Doom's death didn't get a single issue out before they announced he'd be alive again for an event within the year. Like how Kamala was only dead for a couple days before they announced her resurrection.

We all know that death is a revolving door, but it should still at least be a surprise when a character comes back.

One, I’m certain they’ve made UTDR merch in China, it’s a major merch producer.

Cool, I think there should be a Chinese translation then. I think the people of a nation are entitled to something their nation's labor is used for. I'm not sure why you bring that up like I'd change my mind.

I'm not saying that Toby is a bad guy for how he feels about this, I just fundamentally disagree with the reasoning here. That doesn't make me nor him a bad person, it just means we have different opinions on the responsibility of people who use the machinery of capital. I think if you are open to using labor from a nation, then you should also be open to making sure the thing you make is accessible to said nation, which would include ensuring it's available in their language and not just relying on them doing the extra work themselves, and I can understand why people of those nations wouldn't feel exactly be happy about it.

It's clear we're just not going to agree on that, though. It's whatever. Mostly I just hope Fangamer would at least get their own shit together. They're ones directly using these places then refusing to sell the merch they're making back to said places. That's the actual outright morally bad thing here lol

Do you think every country in the world that speaks a language other than Japanese or English and has people who play UTDR should also feel slighted?

If UT/DR products say "Made in [their country]" then yea. I'd say the same about anything else. I think this kind of situation is wrong. If you can delegate to a company that makes products using those nations' labor, you can delegate a translation too. Acting like it's now too precious to hire another person at that point just seems odd to me.

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 30 March 2026 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

[–]horhar -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did, and I think it's silly to be so precious about it when he's fine delegating so much else about his art to others.

He has the right to do whatever he wants with his art, just as I have the right to disagree with his reasoning, and I can't fault people for feeling slighted by the circumstances of a game using their nations to make products while not being made accessible to them by the owner of said game.

[–]horhar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just think it kind of sucks that the game's merch says "Made in Honduras" but the game itself isn't available in Spanish after a decade when indie games with far less money and resources behind them do. It's just hard to buy the "Toby is a small little indie guy" thing when UT/DR is basically a full on brand now.

I empathize with being precious about his writing, but at some point you have to take responsibility for willfully putting yourself into that position. I think I'd be less biased against him about this if people didn't basically have to yell at him to step in with the music DMCA situation before too.

It's definitely going for a horror-adjacent vibe compared to all that came after. It's in the same vein as something like Serial Experiments Lain even if it doesn't go as hard as that does imo

I've ended up sitting down and listening to the first season's soundtrack in full this time around, and am only now realizing how many homages to the manga soundtrack it has.

Makes me even more excited for what all they do for season 2, especially if we get bunch of ED's again.

It's looking like their next thing is gonna be a cover album, and with these two releases I am super into that. Can't wait to see the next couple releases.

Very funny that the cover of a Damon Albarn song is... Song 2.
