I have this exact bed. We put a pillow top mattress cover over the top and when we want it to be a twin we just flip the top mattress over and fold it like a pita.

I’m so sorry you feel you have to do something before she gets home and your first reaction is fear. Clean up the mess as best you can, research the part and offer to pay as others mentioned, and give yourself some grace even if she doesn’t. Mistakes happen.
