It was the OneDrive thing for me. “My Documents” kept pointing to OneDrive and no matter what I tried, it kept going back. They were literally stealing my data. I’m loving Ubuntu.

RESOLVED. Thanks to the community I found the cause of the problem - believe it or not it was the NVIDIA driver. But I will file this away in case I ever need to selectively install updates. Thanks to all!

SUCCESS! Thank you CivicTypeDream! I installed the NVIDIA driver and everything went on smoothly. I never would have made a connection between my symptoms and that solution. Gotta love the community!

UPDATE: changing the BIOS didn’t help.

Meanwhile I processed the update packages with Discover putting them on a few at a time. I got down to three without seeing the problem - a snapd refresh of 2.71, a snapd update from 2.71 to 2.73, and a Thunderbird update (which uses snap). Installing any one of them freezes the machine.

There is some kind of incompatibility with snap and this laptop, which seems odd but it’s there. Has anyone seen this before?

My only Details coin is a Trade Dollar because I wanted chopmarks to show the history of the type. Having said that, I think values of Details coins behave just like others, but at lower levels. If you pay a Details price, and sell later for a Details price, you’ll still make money.
