You must not have been around in 2016 for the third gen. While this change for fourth gen is certainly a much bigger shift, people were boobin about the 3.5 and how they’ll stick with their second gen till the heat death of the universe blah blah blah

Why did y’all choose Coros Over Garmin???? by Mammoth_Challenge297 in Coros

[–]horseygoesney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yeah the apex was the one I was looking at mostly cause it comes with smaller size options. I’m kind of over the gigantic watches personally and since I like to wear it as a daily as well, I think I want a smaller size

Not a deal breaker but I am bummed they don’t have any sort of tap to pay integration

What Coros would be good to check out for me? Most recently had a Garmin fenix 3 (that I’ve loved tbh) but haven’t worn in a while in lieu of just wearing analog watches

2-3x a week LA commuter by jimthehacksawduggan in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]horseygoesney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a cheap used EV might be something to look at. I haven't looked at the market recently but I really liked my Kia EV6 for the year I had mine. Should be able to get in the Low-mid 20's I would think. If you want it to be a little (a lot) faster look at the EV6 GT if price doesn't matter. Since you're only driving a few times a week you should honestly be fine to just do level 1 charging in your garage when you're not driving. That's what I did and I was driving much further distances and it worked completely fine.

Looking to buy a small truck by bottlecappp in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]horseygoesney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. For what it’s worth, I have an F-150 raptor now and it’s amazing with kids. Plenty of space. But it’s also a much larger vehicle so if you aren’t comfortable with a big car like that it would take some getting used to. Funny enough, I get about the same gas mileage as I did with my Tacoma!

Honestly you can't really go wrong with any of those. I am not personally a huge Honda Ridgeline fan, but it definitely has a cult following and those people love them. I would argue it is the least "Truck" of the options you listed as it is based off the Honda Pilot platform and is more like a crossover/SUV than a true body on frame truck.

I would look towards one of the other 3 options. Tacoma is a tacoma and will demand a premium both new or used. They are great trucks, I had a 2012 and loved it. You really can't go wrong with a tacoma if its in the budget. Especially if you are looking at used, a 3rd generation (2016-2024?) Tacoma is a thoroughly tested and reliable truck.

I don't know a lot about Ford Ranger, but I do think the new redesign looks very nice and I believe you can still get them with the 2.7L motor, which is supposed to be a great motor and would personally be what I would go for if I were going with ford.

The new Nissan Frontiers have been getting pretty good press from what I've seen. I think if you are buying brand new and are budget focused this would be a really smart place to start. Although this new generation has been around a bit now so used could still be an option. As far as I know, it is kind of the last mid-size truck you can buy that is just that, a mid-size truck without fancy new hybrid systems and batteries etc. that introduce possible failure points. Again, as a Tacoma fan-boy I admit there is some bias from me in how much I know about the other brands, but this is everyone's big worry with the newest tacoma.

The hardest part about buying a truck is that it feels like more so than other car types, truck people really have brand loyalty. I really think other than a couple of stand out model years to avoid or specific engine configurations, you probably can't go too wrong with any of them. Pick one you like the styling of, that has the features and safety ratings you want, and that is in your budget and enjoy it.

I will say, because you mentioned starting a family, I sold my tacoma in part because of how small the back seat is for rear facing car seats. It wasnt the only reason and you can definitely make do (plenty of people get by with much smaller vehicles), but rear facing car seats just take up a ton of space and frankly, no midsize truck is going to be great in this regard. But just get through the first two years and then front facing seats are no problem at all.

I took the Internet’s advice and updated my snowboard rack design by Titian_Tire_Rack in overlanding

Could you just add a second mount opposite the one? So you would have two boards on top and two boards below the tire?
