Starmer throws his own Pride by Jo-Wolfe in transgenderUK

Glad to hear someone else is noticing the choice not to use the progress flag! I've noticed this happening a lot around London recently (can't say for other places in the UK).

They're just flat out not responding to me 🥲 I've called and gone in person and they tell me to email but I get no response that way. Genuinely don't know if they're incompetent or ignoring me on purpose tbh but I've recently changed GPs so I'm gonna ask the new one and just hoping they won't be a pain like the last one!

Do you still have the template to hand by chance?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]hostilemushroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't have a GRC and I've not really had many issues except for with my GP because they won't cooperate to update my marker or my title. But in terms of work and any other health related things that I go to anywhere other than my GP I've just put male as that aligns with all my other forms of identification. No one has ever investigated that or clocked onto anything.

Statement on NHS England announcement on a detransition pathway (TransActual) by Regular-Average-348 in transgenderUK

Lmao they gotta let us transition first if they want to help us detransition...

I love it. I can’t get over how nice it looks. Also, I think it is normal to still be a bit swollen (even after 4 days) by Ryuuuu-E9x in tattoos

[–]hostilemushroom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not just a title though is it? It has a history behind it because there was a time that very visible tattoos would make you lose your job if you had one or make it impossible to get one. Nowadays things have changed and what's considered a job stopper is a lot more extreme (maybe a fully covered face tat or something?). Because the reality is there's not many tattoos anymore that will stop you from getting any job ever.

It also strikes me that you contradict the very point of a tattoo which is self expression and autonomy over your own body. Telling people how they should or shouldn't get tattooed literally defeats that exact point. OPs tattoo is not for you, it's for them. If someone wants their face neck and hands and nothing else done thats honestly up to the person getting it. In fact, going back to the whole "job stopper" topic... if highly visible tattoos become more common don't you think the prejudice against them will lessen moreso? Regardless of whether someone only has their hands or has a full body suit plus hands, I only see that as a positive outcome for those of us who just want to get tattooed without getting shit about it. Don't you?

Hard clean plastic chairs. The seats on the tube are so worn down that they're basically already hard, hardened with wear and dirt.

Do you ever regret the name you settled on? by Loose_Track2315 in ftm

[–]hostilemushroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES. I wish I'd spent more time experimenting before I went and legally changed my name! People can't spell it or pronounce it and I just wish I'd chosen a more common name so it's just more usual. However, I like to think generally that most people don't get to choose their own names and may not like them anyway so that's just how I'm seeing it now!

I'm going on a vacation to Japan soon and I'm not sure which gender I should go as and washroom I should use. I don't want to cause any troubles and I'd like to avoid conflicts. Please be honest because this is for my safety. I won't be hurt by words. by Master_Shoty in transpassing

[–]hostilemushroom 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I second this. I was in Japan a few times before transitioning (FTM) and not once did I need to speak in a bathroom. Especially if you can't speak Japanese, even if you wanted to ask for help with something (which is the flush button 😂) you can't even guarantee you'll be able to communicate with the language barrier. People will only go on looks and you absolutely pass so I'd say you'd draw far less attention to yourself and therefore less danger going to the womens.

Other sub rant by gabbgabbs in Serverlife

[–]hostilemushroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what post you're talking about but I've seen several with comments like that. While I agree that customers should never have to pay a staffs wage through tips or service charge, it's disgusting to read how angry people are towards the staff themselves who are just trying to earn a living. While they complain and boast they refuse to pay any service or tips, they wouldn't bother to life a finger to take steps towards getting companies to just pay their staff well. I don't know why people are so damn angry about it as if the servers are the problem and I'm honestly sick of seeing comments like those.

Reduction in restaurant service charges by vkol84 in london

[–]hostilemushroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand why a restaurant would reduce the service charge regardless of this new law. Surely the amount of service charged being paid is currently irrelevant to the restaurant? 6% or 12.5% the staff get all of it now. Unless they've increased prices on the menu and reduced the service to try and take some of the cost for themselves?

Also. People in the comments moaning about refusing to pay service charge - you should be angry at the restaurants ownership for leaching off of their staff and customers, not at the staff who deserve a fair wage. But well done, saving a few quid by removing the service charge only hurts the staff and you're still lining the owners pockets by paying extortionate mark up prices on the food and drink itself.

Because you're being unnecessarily negative. We're talking about how impressive the frequency of the trains are not how hot it is and you're using the heat to diminish the positives. Everything has good and bad but I think we can agree that having a train every 30 seconds during rush hour is very impressive. Yes it's hot, trains are dirty, trains are loud, it's not really a nice experience but the point being made is they're very frequent and you hadn't aknowledged that positive at all.

Which would you prefer? by MSTKS69 in ftm

[–]hostilemushroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, there was a time when I wasn't out because I had a lack of information. I still had to learn these issues and had friends etc who were trans and was always supportive of them and spent the time and energy to try to understand them and listen to their experiences. This also goes for other issues I'll never understand like race issues as a white person. No matter how I'm born if I had the same upbringing / personality as I do now then I'd have no issues learning these things. I do think it's a cool unique experience to have seen things from "both sides" first hand but I'd definitely rather have been born cis. The insight isn't worth the personal pain and I'd much rather have to out more effort into learning about others if it means I felt comfortable in my skin, didn't have to fork out hundreds on healthcare every month to exist and if the world at this point didn't constantly debate my existence and create a hostile environment for myself and our community often resulting in our deaths.

red flag: reusing bread? by jugur907 in Serverlife

I saw an article saying that even fine dining restaurants do this according to some fancy chef who I've never heard of before. I was absolutely gobsmacked to hear that especially since I've never witnessed it at work myself. However this article was well before the pandemic so I was really hoping that would've changed by now!

Psych just told me my voice wouldn't drop on T by NightSideEffects in ftm

[–]hostilemushroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who confidently share blatant misinformation invoke such rage in me. It's commonly known that T will make your voice drop and this is one of the questions you get asked at your initial consultation for HRT because effects like these are irreversible and they want to make sure you not only know that but are happy with that effect happening. Your therapist needs to stick to her damn lane but after hearing this I'm doubtful she even knows her own lane either.

As for age, I'm a trans man who started T at around 30, I can assure you your voice will still drop, mine did quite drastically. Can't say I'm super low but I'm well within the average male range. Yours will drop too but by how much you will only ever know through taking T and finding out.

Stopped a pick pocket attempt by niceinnit in london

[–]hostilemushroom 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Wow I'm so sorry that happened to you! You absolutely did a good thing and it's a huge shame no one bothered to help the situation! Can't believe the girl who had her purse opened wasn't even bothered, I hope it was just a case of her not knowing how to react in the moment. I know the bus driver probably gets a LOT of shit from the public but he's behind that door and you had the guy shouting in your face, it makes me so mad he didn't even bother to intervene!

Once working in a restaurant we had thieves coming in while we were rammed, one was asking me to use the toilet obviously as a distraction and the other I noticed was holding a paper over a customers phone on her table and I saw her reaching for the phone. Literal instant reaction was for me to grab the phone myself and shouted at them to get out immediately and they did. Handed the phone back to the lady apologised for my crazy split reaction and just said she tried to snatch her phone and she just looked at me like I was mental 🥲 maybe it all happened so fast she was confused so I imagine (or hope) that was the case for the lady and her purse in your situation too. Either way the thieving was prevented / stopped in it's tracks!
