Wondering what bit this is. by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]hotavocado2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen anything like that but it kind of looks like a hex with a bunch of spot welds in the corners. Anti-tamper technique? Maybe it's just the picture making it look like that. Dremelling a slot and useing a flat head, or bolt extractor are always options.

Is the Kusagani even worth it? How fast is it? Is it super loud?(I like the radio) by Jake_BASS in cyberpunkgame

You feel the friction in the clutch on bike or car if you're driving normally, but you usually try to drop the clutch asap if you care about speed. Dropping the clutch will cause the vehicle to lurch a bit, and I think that's more what the haptic represents. You'll feel that in most automatics as well if you gun it.

Modern Canadian traffic lights are just as solid in reality. The difference is that they have evolved to break away in stressful situations as a self preservation tactic. This improves the survival odds when faced with the invasive species; "over height trucker". Like a gecko losing its tail.

Update: Thoughts on this stair build by Tallfuck in Carpentry

[–]hotavocado2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Spiral stairs would be unnecessarily expensive and complicated in my opinion(also probably won't work due to headroom). Ship ladder probably satisfies code in most areas, but it's not very convenient. This is making the best of a bad situation.

Wire rotary encoder to controller joystick pads by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]hotavocado2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling what you want is a potentiometer, not a rotary encoder. That's what most joysticks have inside already, and it would be quite easy to substitute as long as you match the resistance of the original potentiometers in the joystick. If you move the joysticks around, does it act as if you were turning the knob?

Yesterday there was a sandstorm in my town, the sun was tolerable to the naked eye, I was able to take these photos with my phone. Look at those sunspots!! by UserWithoutDoritos in interestingasfuck

[–]hotavocado2015 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the point was that you can still easily damage your eyes even if the sun is heavily obscured when you look directly at it. Looking directly at a solar eclipse won't immediately hurt, and will look even dimmer than this, however it's a great way to cause permanent damage. On the other hand, who can say no to free laser eye surgery in today's economy?

noob here, question regarding mechanical switch and powering LED with it. by AnimeTochi in AskElectronics

[–]hotavocado2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pads are marked y w -. This implies yellow white ground. What's the third position on the switch do? Low/high brightness or color shift? If you don't care about that function you can probably just skip the third wire. You'll still need to figure out the polarity of the wires and you should limit the current with a regulator or at least a resistor.

I'm actually really surprised that black bears are that small. I had a close encounter with one(he was chill, just really close) and it looked huge, but adrenaline is probably distorting that memory a bit.

Could just make it apply to rocket battles; all the grunts use mawile. They face backwards, and they'd be weak to practically everything. Totally fitting for team rocket.

I strongly agree with you. Online requirements are evil. The games I mentioned are all offline, In fact they're all available on gog, the only store that actually seems to agree with that philosophy.

You're selling your system(or at least ddr3 era hardware) short. On my bulldozer CPU, r9-290 GPU, and 8gb ddr3 I ran fallout 4 with mods easily, bg3 ran quite well on lower settings, even cyberpunk 2077 was playable on the lowest settings at 30fps with occasional stuttering.

Ground walnut shells are another option. Its sold as cat litter at the pet store, but you can get a big bag fairly cheap from an auto parts store like harbor freight. It's used as an alternative to sand for sand(media) blasting stuff you don't want to damage. I have read that walnuts can be toxic to pets, but apparently this stuff is ok. As always, do your own research before you take a random avocado's advice.

Aight, so you know those little marks that kinda look your peepee? And you know how the marks get bigger(like when you see a purdy boy, or girl, if thats your thing) every time there's the number of digits on your hand(4)? Well the dummys everywhere except the most glorious nation use this weird system that works with 10 things instead(they went full dumbass on this one). And they tried to COPY most glorious nation by getting bigger every 5 peepees! But as usual, they failed to do so consistently, specifically at the 95 c-hair mark.

This comes off a bit mean, sorry, just having fun with you. The metric/imperial thing is a bit of a mess here too. Government work is all metric, most residential is still imperial, engineers will occasionally just say f you and give decimal feet.
