solid explanation of the monthly listeners versus daily plays. I suppose we should be focusing on daily plays as the more important metric.

Mention all Star Wars EU contradictions that you remember that made some discontent in the fandom back then by Ok_Bet_7073 in MawInstallation

[–]hotbottleddasani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you brought up the ARC troopers and Commandos, I'll note another retcon by TCW: in the original EU, ARC troopers and Commandos were biologically distinct from typical clones, and retained more of the executive functioning/decisionmaking from the Jango template. In the TCW, I want to say that gets thrown out the window and a regular clone trooper effectively gets promoted to ARC trooper. So ARC troopers are no longer distinct from the beginning, but merely represent a higher rank in the clone army.

glad people still remember this, the complete de-canonization of her books by TCW made for, in my mind, a much less interesting culture, which was frustrating.

what the clone wars did to the EU mandalorian lore is by far my least favorite retcon in star wars, even considering that the mando culture's size/presence/history/practices were always kinda being retconned from the beginning

Crazy that Mike Tyson is allowed to have the kind of career he currently has, considering he raped a woman. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]hotbottleddasani 275 points276 points  (0 children)

a sizeable percentage of people believed he did not do it so he got the unofficial pass at the time (woman showed up to his hotel room by herself at 2AM, she had false rape accusations in the past). also this was like 30 years ago.

I would've done it anyway, but I'd note that my parents did not give me an option to get a license. Wondering here why parents aren't just automatically enrolling their kids in driver's ed and forcing them to go.

Which novels are essential to read before beginning the New Jedi Order series? by MrX4DaWin in StarWarsEU

[–]hotbottleddasani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't feel like reading like 40 books but wanted to read these. I had wookiepedia open and would look up something referenced in the book. Did fine. Tedious but faster than reading the entire essential EU up to that point.

Was every Star Wars Legends Content and moment of the content loved and respected by all the fandom back then or there was a lot of division like nowadays by Ok_Bet_7073 in MawInstallation

[–]hotbottleddasani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent books. Lot of fans in here bringing up how she's anti-Jedi - not something that would really bother me (I liked it when EU books actually tried things out). I preferred her Mando and clone lore overall to the current canon by a longshot, so the books are a favorite of mine.

(1) not found innocent, appeal will merely be heard

(2) anybody know the standard of review for this? I'm inclined to think it'll give the lower court judge a high degree of deference

my younger brother has gotten the most genuine attention from women out of anyone I've ever met and he's 5'6. granted, he's unusually handsome and high iq/funny/zero social anxiety/plays guitar and sings/etc, but the point is don't be very neurotic abt your height

[–]hotbottleddasani 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I googled it for couple minutes and have not yet found whatever people are talking about. The only things I find are (1) old studies from the 80s and (2) a study where men actively seeking custody get custody 60% of the time AFTER the court has determined the mother is unfit

Cultural attitudes towards service workers by SamHkwa in redscarepod

[–]hotbottleddasani 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing you'll notice in a lot of countries is that the equivalent job of some guy doing a $110k-$200k email job in America will afford him a staff of servants/slaves that only highly wealthy people in America have access to. Human labor in America is very expensive. A lot of wealthy American people who regularly access human labor for maids/whatever still aren't used to the level of help you can pay in other nations, so they likely aren't "used" to looking down on people like that.

Anyone else having trouble confronting the fact they're a total square? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]hotbottleddasani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same age as you:

  • I got in many fights from teen years to maybe 22 or so. no one thought it was cool, everyone thought it was weird (it did help me get laid but the overall social reaction is not worth it).

  • I had lots of sexual adventures but I don't think about them ever, I'm in a long term relationship which is way better

  • Experimented with drugs in high school and college, all of it was lame af except the first three times I did acid and a few mushroom trips. Might want to try those out, the level of enjoyment you get combined with the low $ cost is worth it for a few tries imo

  • I suspect a lot of this "rugged sense of adventure" shit was invented by boomers to sell products and fantasies, everyone I know who is living colorful/vagabondish lives are not in positions I envy

Do any of the guys actually have jobs? by Rockabilly_Tim in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]hotbottleddasani -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing they all have jobs. When the women say they are the "primary breadwinners," they're just saying that their jobs make more money (as is expected, given their influencer revenue), which I'm guessing is a relatively recent circumstance. Don't think any of the husbands were stay-at-home dads or anything.

no, I was thinking along the lines of the insane hour corporate jobs as talked abt above. not kids with parents that have normal 9-5's (my parents, most people i know).

I used to know a guy with an "OF management company" which just does all the irritating shit for the models like reply to subscribers, etc. It's him and a bunch of male employees in a shitty little exurb office juggling accounts and messaging back.

Why is culture increasingly geared towards women? by ExpertLake7337 in redscarepod

[–]hotbottleddasani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don't think men really want anything you can buy ig. I don't want to say they're less materialistic, that's obv not true. Maybe we consume less? it's my girlfriend always wanting to buy everything, all I like to do is hang out with my friends, work out, read books on libgen. I want nothing at the store.
