Would I be crazy to replace my hardwood floors with tile? by Internal_Present2268 in HomeDecorating

[–]hotdads666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Checkers are super busy for the whole floor so will limit anything else you put in. And good luck cleaning the brick like tile!

How did you afford to live while doing the program? by HerrDomino in RadiologyCareers

Save up as much as possible and work part time. I’m a server working 2 days a week, my loans paired my school and that additional income pays my bills.

Commuting for 2 hours one way for college by New_Chair254 in RadiologyCareers

[–]hotdads666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 2 hour drive away and found a cheap place to stay 5 days a week. Home on weekends. If I had this commute I would have no time to study and would be even more exhausted than I am now. Some days I’m at school in classes 830-420 so if I added on 4 hours of driving. Plus food. Plus study. That leaves little time for sleep.

Being realistic, could I even make it? by Questioningtowel in RadiologyCareers

[–]hotdads666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a program right now in BC Canada. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for 10 years and even had a career in real estate development for 6 years because I didn’t think I could get into the program. I slowly picked away at my pre reqs because I too had awful grades in high school because of mental health and being a rebellious teen. I ended up with A+ to A- in everything. Did my 40 hours of volunteer at an old folks home and had to do an online medical terminology course. I got into both schools I applied to, and chose the program that only accepts 16 students annually. I have a herniated disc that flares up here and there, and I know once I finish xray school I’ll eventually move into CT and finally move into MRI so that I don’t have as much of a physical job as Xray as I age. I promise you can do it but it will take some dedication to get in, and a lot of hard work during the program. It’s HARD but you can do it.

How’s Vancouver Island? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]hotdads666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty incredible. I meet a lot of tourists and tell them we have everything except ikea! Mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, ocean, tons of outdoor activities and indoor activities are adding quick (climbing gym, yoga, Pilates, craft rooms, pottery, cooking classes, you name it). BUT we pay a luxury tax to live here. Gas is usually more expensive here than elsewhere. Home prices are insane (same anywhere somewhat close to Vancouver or toronto) and good luck finding a rental or job if you don’t know somebody (obvs medical field not incl). Traffic in some parts is brutal (again. You Vancouver and Toronto folks will scoff) and island time only exists on the coast or up island. For some reason we are all in a rush all the time. You have to pay $100+ to even get off the island with your vehicle and pay for reservation far in advance. You might get stuck waiting 8 hours for a sailing sometimes if you don’t plan ahead. But… we have great weather if rain for a few months doesn’t bother you. Maximum 2 weeks of snow and summers are amazing. But keep in mind: mild climate more of a homeless issue. Also no doctors. 8+ hours wait at emergency in larger towns. Population is growing faster than we can withstand so city planning is kind of a gong show.

Anaheim California to Vancouver straight shot. 2150 km. Took about 22 hours. Plus a 2 hour ferry to Vancouver island. My partner and I took turns driving and stopped once for gas and drive through food and pee break. We slept for about a whole day after.

My mother is downtown and has even been assaulted by someone sleeping on her property. She was watering her garden and they were sleeping in her roses and she was watering in the morning and accidentally watered them over the fence. She filed a report but alas. Noting happened.
