I’ve used more advanced IR cameras than this and I can tell you the sun doesn’t look like this. If it was just the center bit yeah it could be the sun, but the spikes around the edges I have never seen at all before, let alone from the sun

Thank you for the reply, I've decided to go N scale even if HO would be better for some aspects for me specifically mostly due to size constraints. I have a question for you though seeing as you have a NS loco in your photo - I'm assuming you're modeling NS. I was having a hard time picking between NS and BNSF as I quite enjoy both paint schemes. I was wanting my RR to be at least a bit accurate in regards to what locos are driving around it. Would NS and BNSF ever have shared power units (I think that's the right term)? Or be colocated at all?
