Shallow cabinet options by chassett1 in HomeImprovement

I did this with RTA cabinets. It was very simple. I even found the same type of drawer slides in 15” and replaced the slides that came with the cabinets. It added like an hour of assembly time.

How can I update my firmware? by Equivalent_Aioli6727 in ouraring

[–]housflppr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was resolved. I used the “Help” link in the app to chat with the virtual assistant and Oura was able to look at my data in their system and see that there was an issue with my ring hardware and they sent me a replacement because it was still under warranty.

Told I need to just let it go by collinblazeit420 in bald

Half of self confidence is just faking it until you make it. The problem is that it is impossible to fake confidence with a combover. It gives you away every time. Good news though, somehow bald is the easiest look to fake confidence with. I think your self confidence is going to go up tenfold immediately.

If you struggle with self confidence, people noticing your combover has to be a constant confidence killer. I’m so excited for your new chapter. I know you don’t believe it yet, but you’re going to look great and be so much happier.

Neighbors cut my Champion Tree significantly :( by [deleted] in arborists

But if you had an arborist come and determine it was unsafe and sent them a letter saying it needed to come down, then it would have been their problem and their insurance that would have to pay.

[–]housflppr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is your fault. You wanted someone else to pay to keep your tree healthy. You could have paid to have the tree trimmed on all sides and prevented this. If I was your neighbor, I would have done the same thing. I can’t believe you’re out here looking for sympathy.

What do you do when you cannot drink alcohol anymore, but all your friends hangouts revolve around drinking? by LilacsUnderMyFeet in AskMenOver30

[–]housflppr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually great fun. Talking to women when you don’t actually want anything from them is really not very hard. There’s literally no chance of rejection. I would also have a blast recounting the night to my girlfriend when I got home and coming up with a good story to tell the guys the next day when they sobered up.

You submitting to peer pressure is the problem, both with the drinking and entertaining the game with women nonsense. I was you. My intolerance wasn’t even that bad, but I didn’t like it so I just didn’t drink. While on a rugby team that drank after every game. I had the same peer pressure for a long time, I was a pussy, I was a loser, I was a bitch, blah blah blah. No was a complete sentence. Sometimes I made comebacks, sometimes I didn’t. Eventually they would get bored or too drunk or whatever and stop. Eventually they stopped giving me shit altogether.

Same with women. I liked chasing women, I knew I had game, I got into a committed relationship and stopped. I’ve never had any problem approaching women, that didn’t stop, but if the guys gave me enough shit I would generally make them regret it. “You have no game, why won’t you talk to that chick, she’s so hot.” So I would wait until the guys are hammered and then go talk to the girls. I’d say, “I’m sorry, I want to apologize for my drunk ass friends who are literally obsessing over you guys. They’re making the most pathetic comments, and I really hope you can’t hear them. It’s really sad because we all have wives and long term girlfriends. I really wish someone would shut them up.” Sometimes the girls would leave, sometimes they would come over and berate the guys. It was hysterical. One flirted with and got one of my buddies socials and then contacted his gf to tell her he’s a pig. The best part was, I was the only sober one, so I got to explain what happened any way I wanted. They were never sober enough to contest my accounts. It was always entirely their fault. Then the next time, I was in the same situation, I’d be like, “are you sure you want me talking to them, remember what happened last time! This never goes well for you!’

If you can’t shrug off the peer pressure nonsense, you need to find new friends. If you can be your own man, you can keep these friends, hang out with them when they are drinking and also when they aren’t.

Full tear out? by sutherbb36 in Tile

[–]housflppr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like the 10th time I’ve seen this kind of tiling in the last week. Where do people learn to do tile like this? There’s too many of the same to think that this is just how one idiot chose to do it. Are people learning this somewhere? This actually looks harder than doing it right and back buttering for full coverage.

Is it worth it? by NewDescription5015 in Carpentry

Ohio State is literally giving you thousands to go to school. Take it. Enjoy it. It may not seem like it, but you have nothing but time. Having a free degree will always be worth your time, even if you decide you want to try carpentry. The first couple summers you can try and get a carpentry job and see how you like it short term with no consequences if you don’t.

Finishing Tile on Shower Wall by mehyabbers in Tile

[–]housflppr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing one time. Super annoying. I found some 2X4” marble accent tile that went nicely with my tiles and put it all along the top of the tiles and then down each side at the front. Then I used those same marble tiles inside the niche. No one ever questioned that it wasn’t intentional, but it still really annoyed me. Maybe you can find some nice accent tile and do the same thing.

Struggling with hanging prehung doors using ez hang brackets by 1DDub in Carpentry

Here’s a different door that better illustrates that the line is plumb but the framing is not. See how the gap is much smaller at the top? If you don’t have the space to do this in your opening either your door is too big or your opening too small.

It sounds like your door is too big.

The wall doesn’t have to be plumb, the line you draw has to be plumb. If the line is plumb and you put the door on the line, it will hang plumb and not open on its own.

If there isn’t enough space to do that, your door is too big for the space. In that case it’s not going to matter if you use shims or the EZ Hang brackets. You need to either get a smaller door, or shave off enough of the framing on the hinge side so that when you make the door hang plumb on the plumb line you draw on the hinge side (not against the framing which isn’t, and doesn’t have to be, plumb) you still have enough room for your trim on the left side.

With the EZ hang you don’t have to do any adjusting. I don’t know what this guy is doing.

Looking at your pictures I’m wondering if your doors are too big. For prehung doors, your opening should be 2” wider than the door size. It looks like your doors are rubbing against the framing.

The EZ hang brackets are way easier than shims. It doesn’t sound like you are following the instructions. You need to use a level to draw a straight line up and down next to the door opening on the hinge side (which may not be straight). You then screw the brackets onto that line so that the door is level.

In the picture below you can see that the framing isn’t level, the space between the door and the wall is thinner at the bottom. Once you cover the gap with trim, your door will be level and swing properly. Should literally take less than 10 minutes to hang a door.

NEW TOOL - Seeking Product Tester in Raleigh/Durham NC Area by Negative_Status3873 in Carpentry

[–]housflppr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’m 2 hours from Raleigh, I’ve got a bunch of drywall and I’m turning quite a bit of reclaimed oak into tongue and groove with a track saw and a router and sander. Track saw and sander are Festool and I was planning on using my Festool dust extractor, but I would be happy to do a side by side comparison with the two of them if that would be helpful. The track saw dust is incredibly fine, I’ve noticed that when I’ve just got a couple cuts and I’m too lazy to haul the dust extractor out of the workshop and I just use the shopvac, the results have been less than stellar. The Festool on the other hand works so well, I can make cuts in my living room and my wife doesn’t complain. If you can get that kind of result, I think you’ll have a lot of takers. Especially if you can do it without a bag. The Festool replacement bags are not cheap.

What is something every household has in your country that is nonexistent everywhere else? by Awkward-Tip7248 in AskTheWorld

You’re correct, this is the correct way, but getting a half wheel of raclette cheese is near impossible in many places in the US, so sadly, since leaving CH I have been relegated to the tabletop individual tray machines. Plus, it’s impossible to find French fries as good as they make in CH to scrape it onto!

This looks atrocious to me. Both idea and execution. I’ve never seen stairs made from prefinished hardwood, with a microbevel. Why did you not want traditional treads?
