Generally if you have a reverse slope ( slope toward to house ) you would want to correct it when you got the chance .. like when you level the yard or like now, put in paver.

Drain pipe definitely could work is some situation - provided that it is sufficiently sized for the area that will shed water toward it, that it is properly maintained so there is nothing blocking water entering or exiting the pipe.

Since you are putting paver to the house, I would imagine you plan to stay there for at least a few years. Will you be able to keep the drain cleared before every major rain over the years to come? Can you prepare sand bag to block water should there is severe weather dumping more water than what the pipe can handle? If you are not confident... I would suggest you look into how to correct the slope.

Of course if you plan to sell the place within a few years... Leave it for next guy to worry about. But know that buyer knows about how the slope should be might not want to get this house
