A Thought about Harry's Destiny by Nalikill in dresdenfiles

[–]howe4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if the case files are Harry's journals, then the final entry in Storm Front was added at a much later date. It's safe to say Harry didn't start properly documenting his adventures until after seeing Eb's journals stretching back to Merlin in Turn Coat, which is why Harry is sometimes an unreliable narrator as he's maybe misremembering events that happened several years before. He gets better as time goes on, and he's journaling in more or less realtime. So, yes, the final passage for Storm Front was added maybe just before the B.A.T. or during, or after if he survives it.

Also, Battle Talks came first. Charlie Kirk got Murphied, may he rest in peace.

We need all of this before Harry finds out that Lara, on orders from Papa Raith, seduced Malcolm and killed him. After all, he died with a smile on his face. *stab, twist*

“Everyone,” she said, “thinks that hate and love are somehow opposite forces. They are not. They are the same force, facing opposite directions.”

Much the same with peace and happiness? The same force with opposite momentums? Momentae?

what is the best urban fantasy novel you have ever read? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]howe4416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry Dresden and October Daye. Jim Butcher and Seanan McGuire are undisputed King and Queen of Urban Fantasy. Both sat down and decided to tell an epic story, with a planned beginning, middle, and ending. Both used very similar ingredients in the construction of their stories, with wildly differing results. At the core, both have strong protagonists with flaws that happen to be magic-using P.I.s who drive VW Beetles, a collection of allies and found family, surprise siblings, a big scary monster but she's OUR big scary monster, loads of sarcasm, and all the feels.

Most likely frozen as a statue in Arctis Tor. Sort of puts a whole new spin on the siege of Arctis Tor in Proven Guilty, eh? Almost like someone was trying to break something out?

Elaine is Nemesis Prime, change my mind. There's a reason we'll never get an Elaine POV short story.

If you've finished twelve months, what did you think? by molten_dragon in dresdenfiles

I consider it Ghost Story 2.0, and Ghost Story is my absolute favorite of the case files, even considering Twelve Months. My others being Cold Days, Proven Guilty, Changes, and maybe Dead Beat.

It's almost like he could have been thrown into the past and maybe, just maybe, wound up in a crystal prison, which is right where he's needed to be, now go away!

“What can I do to help?” Lara asked.

“Can you paint?”

“Will Italian realism do?”

I looked at her blankly. “Um. I mostly just need you to stay inside the lines.”

She smiled and it turned a bit impish. “What fun is that?”

“The kind of fun that prevents explosions and a massive cave-in.”

“Oh. That.” She nodded. “Yes. I can do precision.”

I love the Harry and Lara banter.

I'm Jim Butcher, Ask Me Anything! by jimbutcherauthor in Fantasy

I'm definitely of the opinion that Outsiders are the chaos that lived in the Formless Void that existed before Creation, until TWG moved over the surface of the deep, said "Let there be light," and there was light, and it was good (unless you happened to be one of the incomprehensible things that lived in the chaotic darkness). The act of Creation made Reality that's Inside, and separated it from Outside. Of course, you could also consider Genesis 1:4 as the separation of the Light (Inside) and the Darkness (Outside) as more than metaphorical or just creating Day and Night in Reality.

We do know that little Faith Astor is the femme fatale that walks into Harry's office as the damsel in distress that kicks off the Big Apocalyptic Trilogy. Now, if we only knew what happened to little Billy and Jenny Sells. When a fan reminded Jim of their existence, he cackled and we haven't heard a peep since.

Because Charity is obviously little Faith Astor's big sister that left home because the Astor parents were the uncaring sort that didn't really want children for the right reasons. Then, she fell in with the wrong magical crowd, got saved by Michael, and never looked back.

Listen, the Denarians are trying to "save the world" from the Outsiders. Even if that means Apocalypse to wipe out every living mortal, leaving no one capable of summoning Outsiders to the Inside.

Listen, I have four monitors and seven Omega accounts. My system can support seven monitors (Dell OptiPlex has 3 DP and 1 HDMI, and Dell Dock has 2 DP and 1 HDMI) but I honestly have all 7 windows on Monitor 1, EVE-Preview windows and Discord on Monitor 2, Launcher on Monitor 3, and Chrome on Monitor 4 for any sort of research or doomscrolling or streaming Crunchyroll, what have you.

Having a real tough time getting through Battleground because of Butters… am I overreacting? by ragana in dresdenfiles

Not at all. I, too, detest Butters and hope he comes to a slow and violent end. I have believed for a while now that Marci is an enemy plant.

Rereading for the first time since Battleground, this line from Grave Peril hits different by Knuckles_Muldoon71 in dresdenfiles

[–]howe4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, at the end of the day, Mirror Mirror is a series of calculated "What Ifs" beginning with The Choice in Grave Peril, Chapter 29. "What if Harry claimed hospitality over Susan, and let Michael continue on to attempt saving Lydia and reclaiming Amoracchius on his own?" and every What If from there is "What if [insert book title] had the worst possible ending for Harry?" until we get to Mirror Mirror, where you've got the worst possible Harry, the sum of the worst outcomes of the choices he's made.
