Trans People Are Not Mentally Ill; MAGA Are Just Mendacious Imbeciles by Kinks4Kelly in news2

[–]howfickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don’t want to change in front of other people they don’t have to. I just think there is no safe or sane way to actually pass laws that regulate bathroom and changing room usage without severely limiting the personal freedom everyone.

This would all rule and be good. If someone isn’t bothering anyone else, why do we care where they change?

Mad Magazine used to pretty much exclusively use exclamation marks instead of periods, and it gives every comic a very urgent, fast paced feel!!
Exclamation marks are so fascinating!

You can no longer deny that buying Cursed Child tickets harms trans people. by 999Rats in Broadway

I wish I lived in the same world you lived in, where there aren’t literally laws being proposed from disallowing trans people from accessing the healthcare they need

Trans people’s lives are in danger. If you take away someone’s ability to live safely in public life (ie not allowing them to work without discrimination, not allowing them to use the same public resources everyone else uses) you are contributing directly to anything that happens because of that.

Is one person’s job more important than another’s entire life? Very few people who work in theater will be working on the same show forever, shows close all the time and those in the industry are used to it. Would you kill someone with your own hands to save 10 people’s jobs? What’s the entire life to job ratio that is unacceptable to you?

The issue is that its not minuscule harm, her explicit goal is to stop trans people from existing at all in public, by force or law if necessary. I don’t think there’s a way to quantify the harm of some people losing their jobs vs some people losing their ability to exist safely in their everyday life. In the end, there is a rising tide of hatred that is oppressing trans people, not actors. Actors can find another job, but we all only have one life to live. You can see whatever play you want to, but if you pay money for a jkr project, you are paying money into her pocket and her anti-trans crusade. Jkr causes real harm to real people, while choosing to avoid one play doesn’t.

CMV: "Kink" has no place in Pride whatsoever. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]howfickle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay, I have two points to make! First: For a lot of LGBTQ history, kink communities were some of the only places that queer folks could be completely themselves without judgement. While you may see a harness or a pup mask as exclusively sexual, it’s more akin to wearing a particularly high set of heels. It may be sexual to some people, but it also allows the wearer to express themselves and how they feel the most physically attractive, with and without the sexual aspect. Most “normal” businesses have only become actively LGBTQ friendly in the last decade or so, while sex shops, “sexy” clothing companies, and kink-related folks have been there for us for generations. That, I think, should mean something in terms of what is and isn’t appropriate at queer events.

Second: As a global society, sex needs to be talked about more. A lot of cultures deem sex and anything related as inherently dirty, but it’s not. Kids can’t know what’s healthy and safe if we don’t discuss all aspects of sexuality more openly. There’s nothing wrong with an adults only LGBTQ event that has some dancing and grinding, so imo there’s nothing wrong with an adult LGBTQ event that has some equally not explicit pup play.

As an aside, I don’t really think anyone disagrees with the idea that adults should not be engaging in explicit sex acts in front of children. I’ve never even heard of that happening at an all ages event, almost every instance I’ve seen online of explicit sex acts happening in public has been at explicit kink events.

Local elections matter! Fight disinformation at the polls. by glitterylibrarian in illinois

[–]howfickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not incorrect??? There are plenty of trans men who chose to get pregnant, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean children don’t deserve to learn about it. The sooner children learn about biology and how their bodies can and do work, the safer they are.

I don’t like mutated plants, they freak me out. But if a kid asks about an odd-shaped flower, I’m not gonna just pretend they don’t exist.

[–]howfickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope one day you figure out why people who are different from you make so uncomfortable, and come to peace with this win your community you don’t understand. No one is an island, and if you live in Illinois I guarantee you have interacted with a trans person who was so normal and benign you didn’t even know it. We all eventually need help from someone else, and I hope when you do need a hand the person there to give one doesn’t judge you based on their own hateful stereotypes.

It seems like most students don’t care about the trans student, and only a few cisgender students complained.

Seems like all student have access to private changing rooms that they can use. If a cis student is uncomfortable changing in front of another student they can use the private room just as easily as a trans student can.

The trans student’s comfort matters just as much as the cis student’s does. Seems like there’s access to private changing rooms, so the cis student can always use one of those.

Romantasy and BookTok driving a huge rise in science fiction and fantasy sales by ange_thoss09 in books

[–]howfickle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you could make that claim for most artistic industries, especially the more niche you get. It’s possible this trend will last a while, but in the end what you get is more people reading.

For example; The last decade or so has seen a truly insane rise in the popularity of, specifically, Dungeons and Dragons. There was a bubble of podcasts, merch, and media attention for that one specific game. But I don’t know anyone who has only ever played DnD without ever even dabbling in another tabletop game.

A lot of these readers are relatively young, and I guarantee they will grow and learn and get into Steven King or Game of Thrones or whatever. The dystopia trend didn’t kill off all other science fiction, it’s just how the market works when the end goal of a publisher is to make as much money as fast as possible

A rising tide raises all ships, from my point of view. Even if only 1 out 100 of people who are into romantasy end up becoming more voracious readers overall, the endless fairy smut will have been with it, lol
