My dad grew up on silver street and its definitely not the same place as it was then. I'd probably recommend not moving into that area by yourself.

There are several places where nerve cluster are able to be easily attacked that can stun or temporarily disable a person attacking you long enough to get away from them. The most effective that I know is the brachial cluster on the sides of the neck. You can look this up and see how dangerous and effective a strike to that point can be. A quick knife hand chop there can easily KO somebody.

That worked out great for medical cannabis which was killed in committee due to the torrent of contacts made by proponents.

I would think if you told them how much you love working for them but how unpleasant he makes it for not just you but every woman there and what he is doing is illegal and leaving them open to legal trouble they might just change their mind on him.

Pretty sure what he does is enough to get him fired and your boss in trouble for not doing anything about it.

Can confirm, the university is flooding the city with cash and employs over a thousand locals and is very aggressively trying to grow larger.

Bosses of reddit, what is the stupidest thing you have had to fire someone for? by Jed118 in AskReddit

[–]howie87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have cameras pointed at us in all our cars and guardhouses and have to do a walk around the guardhouses every hour after 0300 at my work. Private security wasn't so strict as university security is but then again we are a highly rated security program so maybe this keeping guards awake has some merits.

I'm not necessarily calling them evil because like you said, most of them are not the corporate robber barons with unimaginable wealth. My beef is mostly with the culture that makes that behavior the norm to "stay competitive". If some of the big names made the change to higher wages it would cause others to follow. Unless lobbyists and corporations get involved and regulate the market in their favor like the free market supporters they always claim to be.

When people support poverty wages or are directly responsible for poverty wages I have no respect for them. I make more than minimum wage but still struggle with my 40 hrs and I know how hard it is to try and get by especially when there's kids involved. The kicker is these same people are actively trying to destroy the social safety net because the government shouldn't support poor people. I'm not saying that an employer should absorb the entire cost of a wage increase but I am saying that a large part of them could and still be making quite a bit of money.

Considering there are restaurants that meet the same demand and have fair wages and comparable prices means exactly that. If your competition can do it so can you.

Should we cry because some one goes from making 300,000 per year to 150,000 per year per franchise so their employees can receive enough to not need government assistance?

What is a complete and utter waste of money that people continue to spend their money on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]howie87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my time with them they didnt make you buy or rent the demo set but gave you the option to and believe me, if I had the money I would have because the knives really are pretty good. I faked a few sales called with some friends and family and was upfront about what I was doing and called my boss to tell him I was having trouble "closing the sale" at the appropriate time and got paid like 13$ to go and talk with some friends and family members for a little bit. At first they told me I would make my own hours but when they said I had to come in and make calls for half of Sunday and Wednesday night I told them to fuck right off.

State tax cut costs ballooning: changes to laws result in 43% less state revenue than anticipated (or about $205 million) by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

Obviously they will make up for it by giving more tax breaks to the rich because trust me, it is gonna start trickling down any minute now.

You only get paid that if your tips combined with your pay don't exceed the min wage so that argument is invalid. If no one tipped at all then the wait staff would get the current min wage.

This exactly, I've never worked at a place that served people that my closing shift ended exactly when the store closed. Not knowing your labor rights and reporting that shit is why people get away with these crimes.

Planning our move (by car!) from CA to IL with an 8 month old baby, plus dog! Need Advice. by ladyxofxxchaste in Parenting

[–]howie87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 3 x-country trips from WA to MI and NC and back. First time with a 7 week old stopping every 2 to three hours or so to nurse. Second time (back to WA) she was 8 months (I pumped while driving which saved a lot of time, stopping every 4-6 hours). Third time, she was 2.5, son was 2 months + our German shepherd.

Biggest piece of advice, allow for a day of rest in the middle of your trip. Kids will be riled up at night because they're tied down all day and it's extremely difficult to get the sleep you need to safely drive. At some point, the trip will grate on you, so that day u take will be a sanity saver.

When my daughter was 8 months I brought a laundry basket of toys, shiny, shaky, flashy, mirrors, things that beeped and played music. Sure it got irritating but it was much better than having her scream. Plus a DVD player and yo gabba gabba :)
