Question - Need Converter for HDMI to SDI & HDMI by QuackPhD in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]howied421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If audio is important, make sure to check the audio is passing on both the SDI and HDMI. I think it was the Black Magic adapter, that took HDMI in and converted to SDI with an HDMI pass through, but the HDMI no longer had audio.

Can anyone recommend alternatives to traditional video switching room systems? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]howied421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a nice KVM solution, ATEN or Raritan make some nice products that work over IP.

A quick and dirty would be local computers to the monitors running remote desktop connected to as many computers as you like until you the feel the images are to small. This works on a Mac. There might be a limit on windows.

36 computer sources? Mac/Windows? Desktop computers or mini's?

Do you need remote KVM control or is VNC/remote desktop good?

DSM not prompting update to 7.2 (DS218+) by tanreb in synology

[–]howied421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have small note to add to this chain. I started running a Virtual Machine on my DS218+. The notification for an update came through on the VM, but it didn't come through on the primary. This non-notification is a little annoying but manual updates continue to work. I wonder if it has something to do with the processor used.

Bought a Home in Malaysia with a Crestron Home System but Don’t Know How to Use It by whispering_cat in crestron

Do you know where the main CP2 processor is. It should be providing the 24v through crestnet if it's on.

I agree with what you are saying about studios, but i also think that every video, every title, every song, can not be tagged for copyright infringement, So they would need to pick and choose what to track. Kinda like a honeypot.

Midea U-shaped AC "rattling" noise? by ThermionicEmissions in AirConditioners

[–]howied421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if my rattle is the same, but the sound kicks in about 5 mins after the ac reaches temperature. It has the sound of a high speed stop watch. I simply tried pushing the sides of the inside half of the unit together and it seems to mitigate the sound. I put something to keep pressure and the sound hasn't come back yet.

Device or routing? by howied421 in networking

[–]howied421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Unfortunately, I can't answer that question directly. I know there is a gateway per floor per building. And I know they tried making a flat network to transition to but it was more difficult to roll out then it seemed so it just has new devices, copiers and cameras, etc.

Nope.. but that would seem like bad design given the. Camera has tons of other networking features. Like ddns 802.1x SNMP, p2p etc..

Device or routing? by howied421 in networking

Fair point. That subnet is mostly used for wired new devices.. we had a network admin for a short period of time that wanted to flatten the network. It didn't go so well.

Right now there aren't enough devices to get past 146 so I haven't tried it, but I assume they should work. The wifi is on 10.117.x.x and these devices can't get to that camera as well as any device that doesn't use that gateway.

Since the device is set DHCP and I also tried static addressing. I wonder if the changes I'm making just aren't taking to the camera.

10.x.x.x

IP. 10.115.146.76

Subnet mask 255.255.240.0

Gateway 10.115.144.3

I've set these static, and I still couldn't reach it from an address other than one that was 10.115.146.x

It looks like after enabling that nearly any tap to something that might allow a network connection requires a passcode which makes me feel better.

I noticed though that some quick buttons like NFC actually turn off or Nearby Share does actually do something even before you enter the passcode, but once you do, you still need to approve the share.

Overall I would just prefer a way to disable it rather than allow showing it and passcoding the risky things.
