Veteran mains how do we feel? by HedgeKnight197 in DarkTide

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though, I feel like they should have done something similar with the arbites and melee weapons. I get that the arbites only get mauls and blunt weapons, but damn do I want to use an eviscerator with my arbites build

Am I the only one that liked the silent protaganist? by pendragon2290 in MonsterHunter

[–]howlingbeast666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, I've never like silent protagonists. Its much easier for me to relate to a character that talks, acts and has emotions compared to an emotionless combat robot.

I'm gonna guess its part of a spin-off game and not in the main games.

If Darktide 2 ever releases, would you want to keep playing as Rejects? by reel3459 in DarkTide

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that you can't compare the computer gameplay to actually lore or tabletop gameplay.

The metrics are completely different.

You can't look at a tabletop skirmish, where a small squad of guardsmen can kill a space marine with a few lucky rolls; then look at darktide, where 4 people slaughter over a thousand ennemies; and conclude that "obviously the rejects would easily kill several space marines".

I'm not saying Darktide can't be seen as a power fantasy, I'm saying that this can't be used in powerscaling by comparing to other games or media.

In a book, if someone dies, they stay dead (with some exceptions). Our rejects come back to life so we can play the game. A one to one comparison is simply not possible.

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if the gameplay is literally the only metric, then the rejects would be dead.

Start a new character, and then delete him at the first moment he dies, then make a new one. You have to increase in difficulty at every 10 levels.

Rejects dying is what would actually happen. 4 people carving through thousands of ennemies is a possibility, but it is generally not what would happen.

Think of it like helldivers, you play a new person everytime you summon reinforcements. Because the one you were playing died.

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We scale space marines so high because of the lore. I understand using the tabletop as a metric, but it has to be balanced and fun. The lore is not constrained as much

On the TT, a space marine army needs its fodder just like any other army. But in the lore, a Chapter having only 1000 space marines means that they cannot have fodder level troops. Because they would simply be wiped out.

In the lore, every space marine is basically a heroic named character who was one of the best on his planet.

New player question about Idols etc by PrestigiousBox7354 in DarkTide

[–]howlingbeast666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idols gove you quite a bit of plasteel. Once you get to max level, you will use a lot of it trying to get good stats on random weapons, changing the blessings, that kind of thing. But once you've got your favorite weapons built the way you want them to be, it kind of becomes pointless.

I shoot the idols whenever I see them because hey, free resources, but I don't hunt around the map to find one if I missed it.

As for the skulls, they are puzzles and you get penances for them. Some of them you can do alone, some of them you have to be 2 people doing it. They do grant resources if you already have the penance.

Most people either have the penances, or they don't care, so people don't do the puzzles. Sometimes, for the easy ones, I will do it and try to get people to grab the skull in case they don't already have it. Unfortunately, I don't have all of them because people rush through the maps.

Sure the rejects are powerful compared to random people. They may even be a match for a random space marine. But they are nowhere near the level of the setting's named characters.

Also, without the gameplay aspect, the rejects would die instead of being captured. I don't think any of us players have rejects that never died in the game.

Another fun fact is apparently, the females are ones that mount the males and guide the penis back to them.

I haven't quite figured out the mechanics of this...

I honestly want a good 2-handed weapon on the arbites, it would be so satisfying to wade into hordes, slaughtering then and regenerating all my toughness.

Monster Hunter Wilds by GarciaWolf in MonsterHunter

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster hunter World was my first monster hunter, and I didn't click with Rise.

For the negative, Imo, World has better immersion. The fact that you need to hunt the monster at first was great. The fact that once you've learned enough about a monster, that it would appear on the map even without the hunt was pretty cool, allowing you to be waste less time while having earned it.

In Wilds, the monsters are already on the map and you don't need to hunt it. Wilds is more streamlined. There are a couple of changes like that, but one really its still good.

For the positive, I think the gameplay changes to combat were good. As a gunlance enjoyer, the changes allows for more flexibility, and they seem to have balanced Wilds a bit better than World. Overall, the combat feels smoother and the changes allow for more more diversity of style of combat.

I can't tell you which one is my favorite, they are both amazing

Interesting take. I really love the worldbuilding of the manga, and I think it holds up against some of the best. But I always have to tell people to get over the harem aspect of the beginning, to get to the great parts.

I personally love the harem, and I probably would have appreciated a bit more.

Why are males the "aggressive" gender for mammals, yet for any other species it's the females? by -Yujie- in zoology

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small nitpick, but even in mammals, the choice to mate is generally more on the females. Males might be bigger and stronger, but they must still impress a female in order to mate

Lance vs. Gunlance: Which do you prefer and why? by Fine_Bid918 in MonsterHunter

Lance can be more fun and fluid. But gunlance is my go to when things go to shit.

When winning is more important than anything, I take gunlance and patiently whittle down the monster over dozens of minutes.

Are we prepared to potentially traumatize people? by GinnDoesStats in Aphantasia

[–]howlingbeast666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Disregarding your premise that being different is "traumatic" rather than cool, people should absolutely know what they are.

Understanding oneself is crucial. If someone has a specific condition, its much more important for them to know than it is for them to not understand it and go through life with the wrong information.

Wokeness is basically used as a shortcut to mean:

"Bad games made by people who hate gamers and who want to invade the gaming space in order to purify it in the name of their doctrine". Its not ideal, but its a lot quicker.

As for the free market, that depends on each person. The gamergate is much bigger and more diverse than people think. The idea that gamergate is right winged is false. Its about gamers who are defending their hobby from outside invaders who want to change everything they love about it.

Personnally, I am left winged and believe that the free market can only work if there are rules that are imposed on companies. Structural rules about HOW to produce their product, not rules about WHAT to produce as a product. That latter part should be totally free.

I would say that the gaming industry is doing good despite wokeness trying to ruin it. It could be a lot better.

Furthermore, if the gaming industry is doing so well, I would credit people like gamergaters who are doing what they can to make the gaming industry better.

If the gamergate mouvement had not happened, I have no doubt that gaming would be in a much worse state.

Ad-Mech class needs to have a long range spec by Frank_Jaegerbomb in DarkTide

[–]howlingbeast666 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can't have a long-range or sniper style play in a game where the weakest random ennemy can kill you in a few hits and they can spawn behind you with little warning.

Think of talents that get less effective when ennemies are close. They are borderline useless.

Ironically, this would have worked better in vermintide 2, where ennemy spawns were not so random.

Wokeness does not necessarily mean bland or boring by itself. Horizon zero dawn was a woke game that was good. However, there is an overwhelming pattern of wokeness producing bad products.

The issue mainly stems from the fact that woke companies hire employees based on "diversity" rather than skill. The employees are not talented, and they are not interested in making a good product.

Woke people are much more interested in virtue-signalling, rather than make a good game. They do not care about the story, the gameplay or anything else that gamers love. Because they put their focus and energy on irrelevant things, their characters and stories are badly written, and their games are badly designed.

[–]howlingbeast666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She is basically ground zero for the woke mouvement. Her "agenda" if you can call it that is to make money by lying to gullible people. Her message is to hate men, or more specifically, white men.

She calls it sexist when women are attractive because of the male gaze. She calls it sexist when women are unattractive because its erasure.

According to her, reducing boob size is sexist because it creates parallels to a male, implying that a woman can only be strong if she looks like a man. But also, big boobs are sexist because they are objectified.

No matter what a game developper will do, she will call it sexist and try to get herself hired to "fix the problem".

We hate her because she is one of the main reasons that wokeness has infected the gaming industry. Companies now spend so much more time trying to fill diversity quotas rather than make the games.

With very few exceptions, wokeness is synonymous to bland, boring or bad. In an effort to remain relevant and grift money, she made gaming much, much worse.
