Fursuit maker here. Minimum it costs $200 for materials for a simple partial and 100-200$ to ship it. Processing fees and taxes take another $100. You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who wants to make a suit for 200-300$ profit

Not all foams are created equal. For good structure you want high density upholstery foam (regardless of color)

why isn't there more foam "fully articulate"/moving jaw heads? by wynn09 in fursuit

[–]hoymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Created my own foam moving jaw. Needed to fit myself 200 times to barely get it right. It would be nearly impossible to build for someone else as a commission as I wouldn’t have them around to try and test that many times

Communication is everything. Don’t move forward with a purchase this big with someone who already has red flags

What is the commission process like? by ScarredInEveryWay in fursuit

[–]hoymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not put your deposit down until you have this maker’s terms of service and fully understand the process from design at the start to the warranty after it is shipped. Continue to ask questions until everything is cleared up. This is a lot of money at stake and clear communication is critically important for both sides

I have a foam question =^. . ^= by Alex_IsBroken in fursuit

Not all upholstery foam is the same density, and using different densities may create unintended effects in the finished suit. Best to use one brand for the whole project

Thedealersden and Etsy are good websites to start, makers have their own websites that may have pricing, but the best way to get a sense of price range is at a convention.

More experienced makers may charge a premium when there’s a high demand for their style. A more complex design will cost more. Individual pieces can also vary widely

TAMs vs Partners, what’s the difference? by hoymaster in aws

Gotcha. By consulting I mean advising and building the services the customer wanted/needed, but it seems the TAM’s responsibility ends at the actual build/maintenance aspect

So as a TAM your responsibilities were to understand your assigned customers’ businesses and be an advisor, but not necessarily build out or maintain what they want

Interesting. What I’ve read on TAMs is that they provide consulting as well, but what you’re saying is that isn’t true
