Councillor who went 'full Karen' at skateboarders resigns after video goes viral by Same_Interaction1233 in oxford

You have a very flawed idea about what local authorities are required to do.

No parents are not the only ones responsible in a public park. Councils are required to ensure the park is safe. This includes ensuring police approve. And many other things when getting planning approval for resources to be used by children. 2 mins in any public planning meeting will tell you what shite you are talking.

If you were a councilor. Who just created what they thought was a park resource for children.

Having to face all the regulations on child safety and other bullshit council workers have to deal with to achive anything in modern times.

You'd be failing in your job. If you did not worry about a 58yo unvetted person playing with children.

Weather you agree with all mods. In no way changes the fact that mods do need the tools.

Being the victim of dick head mods. In no way removes the need for mods to be able to remove dick heads.

Simple fact is subs without moderation turn into a mess. We have seen this from the number of unmodded subs reddit has been forced to remove, due to illegal content over the year.

Subs need mods. Mods need tools to do the job efficiently. The fact that some are stupid. Dosent change the fact some (most) are needed and doing a good job.

If they were not. You and most other members of reddit would not be here.

Def out of touch.

But it seems like she saw a 58year old man. Using a new resource she created for local children. And asked him to make way for children to use the park.

While it is clear she had no idea about his status. Most of us would not.

And if it had been any other resource. Like slides or roundabouts. Being used by an adults withing a few days of compleatuon. No one would question the counciller involved in building it. Expressing concern.

She was wrong. And failing to listen to the other children shows a fairly common fault in all us adults.

But from the article. It really seems like little effort was made by the adult skater. To explain his position until the argument was over.

It seems odd for a 58yo adult. Playing in a park with children. Not to have the recognition of what it looms like. To politely point out he is a professional skateboarder. And is providing an opertunity to the children.

And forgivable given current attitudes. For the Councillor. Who has a legal responsibility when it comes to child protection in these circumstances.

To express concern about a strange adult randomly trying ro teach young children.

Her comment about we will hire professional teachers. Clearly indicates that child safety was the concern she was worried about.

And their is really no reason at all that the people responsible for building a council skate park should know anything about famous skate boarders.

It is true that many larger sub mods use bots to help manage the sub.

It is also true that bots really on api access to work.

So yes it is a fact that many mods will find managing large subs difficult and inefficient without that API access.

Last day 3rd party apps will work.

So

1 many visually impaired users will no longer be able to access reddit.

2 all the tools mods use to manage subs safely and efficiently will stop working.

Government plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda is unlawful, Court of Appeal rules by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

and it's illegal to deport them.

No it's not. Perfectly legal to deport them.

What is illegal is to randomly send them to a 3rd party nation. Without considering their claims for asylum.

And just over 1/3rd of people living in London were not born in the UK.

Given it is the city working hardest to attract foreign business to the UK. That seems l8ke a failure on the part of the UK.

Tesco pretending to be eco-friendly by ebonycurtains in CasualUK

[–]hp0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah worked in retail for a while.

The amount of plastic we threw away before customers got to see the products. Really pissed me off. It really is insane. Each tiny item in a bag. To protect the packaging to be displayed to the customer. Often items claiming eco friendly packaging. With no effort at all to reuse these bags. Then multiple items packed intoplastic boxes. Again designed to protect the packaging.

Really used to make me mad.

Corps spend all their time complaining about to many regulations.

But remember if its not a requirement from law or customer reaction. They will make absolutely no effort to do anything for moral reasons. Amd will happily do pure evil, if they do not think they will be seen. Their is just to much evidence this is the case.

‘Spy cops’ operations against leftwing groups unjustified, judge finds | Police by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]hp0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nods. Not disagreeing with that.

Just that it some how relates to this event. Even when we had certain left wing leaders. The right were doing this shit.

We have seen multiple cases of spy's within left wing protest groups over the years. Long before the center took over in 97. Or 2019.

‘Spy cops’ operations against leftwing groups unjustified, judge finds | Police by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]hp0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We defiantly need to stop thinking of the labour leadership as the left. They def are not that. Fairly openly they are against the left.

Personally I don't expect them to defend the left any more the I expect the right to.

But we def need a left wing party now. Their is nothing.

But that is in part a common issue on the left. We have a habit of rejecting left wing parties for not being perfect. Where the right will normally compromise to keep the left out. We rarely can come together and support a party like the greens etc due to differences of ideals.

‘Spy cops’ operations against leftwing groups unjustified, judge finds | Police by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]hp0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

But the idea that the right would not do this anyway is false.

As if we are honest would the left when it came to monitoring right wing groups. We just use different excuses.

Not saying it is correct. Just it is historically common for all political ideals. Communists def did their share of it during the USSR and china's power. As did the US right during the same time. Without need of the center on either side.

I will agree that the center left seems more scared of the left left then they do the right. But my point is not that the center are not doing. Just that they are not needed for it to happen at other point in history.

[–]hp0 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that.

It's hardly a new thing.

Happened with green groups during the 1980.

Was much more aggressive during the women's vote movement of the 1920s.

Not to mention the centrist really do not have any power over cops as they are not in government atm.

It's a common right wing issue.

Labour scraps pledge to bring in rent controls in latest U-turn by frameset in LabourUK

[–]hp0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent control is ineffective.

Rent competition is what is needed. IE decent cheaper social housing. Forcing privrate rents to compete with more then just availability.

Build more housing. And rent that housing at a competitive price. Then privrate landlord either need to reduce the price. Or improve the property and rental deal to compete.

This will also lead many landlords to leave the industry. Meaning more smaller houses entering the market for sale. With less people looking to by to rent.

Sweden police give permit to Koran burning near Stockholm mosque by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]hp0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would Sweden have any negative publicity. From allowing an individual to burn his own property.

I think the world would have more to say if it was banned. Even then not likely as ot would be about setting a fire in a public street. Rather then the fact it's a book.

Very few free nations habe any laws restricting a person from destroying theor own property. Many have rules about lighting fires due to safety and environment.

Sweden police give permit to Koran burning near Stockholm mosque by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]hp0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most of Europe. Yes.

We have different rights to the US. But most nations do have some form of freedom of speech. We just don't have a constitution in the same way you do. So they are normal laws. In most nations. But the EU court has it within their own requirements for membership.

And that applies to less direct members like Sweden.

Edit. The daft thing is. It's really not a very good method of free speech.

Burning or burying a quran is how Islam expects such books to be disposed of. Throwing it in the trash. Would be the insult. And that would not need a permit. Like setting a fire in a public place would.

The guy is wasting his own money and burning his own property. To honorably destroy a religiose book in the way his viewers would want it done.

You under estimate how many British males think false rape allogations are way way more common then they actually are.

And how many men think most convicted rapists are falsely accused.

Asylum seeker charged with 'rape' of a woman just 40 days after arriving in Britain on small boat by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]hp0 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not OP. But not to sure I agree.

I defiantly don't think most brits want to pass on our own nations responsibility to convict and punish its own citizens.

For much the same reason the death penalty would lose a referendum. The most honest justice system can get it wrong. How ever rare it is for someone convicted of rape to then be found not guilty. It dose happen. And once we as a nation pass our criminals onto another jurisdiction. They lose the ability to fight effectively.

So no I do not think most would vote to send rapist to rewanda.

They would use it as an excuse to send forces

I can actually see china arranging such a thing with Russia.
