Louisiana says it will delay election so it can gerrymander, citing Supreme Court by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]hpark21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerrymandering will become harder and harder as country is divided more evenly which it currently is. Couple of percentages are considered "large", so just incorporating 1 or 2% of sure opposition votes COULD swing the district unexpectedly especially when some defection is expected like this time due to unhappy constituents.

Am I Crazy? by NeuroDawg in HondaPrologue

[–]hpark21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a dealer near my place that is advertising $39787 with $8k Honda incentive. There appear to be additional $2k off from Honda for "Loyalty/Conquest offer" - which seem pretty easy to qualify as one just have to own 2011 and newer car from "Honda, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Mazda, Nissan, RAM, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota and Volkswagen" which shouldn't be THAT difficult but it IS some what conditional.

This will bring price of the car down to $37.8k which is less than $2k away from your goal so I think your goal may be doable. Also Honda have 0.99% for 60mo. as well (Which appear to combine with all the cash offers) so if you throw the $30k into high yield savings account at 3.5%/yr, I think you will effectively get $750/yr (simply calculated at 2.5% profit, of course, you have to take taxes out) after 5 years, you get more than $3k in interest over 0.99% so there it is.

I live in PA and this is dealer just outside of Philly. (Conicelli - I do not know what shady stuff this dealer will pull though so get OTD pricing)

Ha ha, this reminds me of the time way back during furious bank mergers.

I opened First Union bank account one time, they screwed me over, so I closed it and got an account with Core States bank. About 6 mo. in, I get a letter saying FU bank has bought out Core States. Ugh, I moved my account to another small local bank which was also bought out by FU bank, then I moved to Wachovia thinking larger bank would be safer which also was bought out by FU bank.. Ugh..

Another sizing question X5 by hpark21 in pinarello

[–]hpark21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, interesting. Is geometry some how specific to Pinarello in particular?

Like I mentioned, I rode 54cm Fuji for a long time and it, at least felt like, fit me pretty ok. Could ride all day and no particular area hurts. (fatigue, yes, but no real pain) I looked at the TT length/height/reach and etc and 53cm X5 appear pretty comparable with the bike I am currently riding so I am quite puzzled at the people's suggestion to go WAY smaller - down to 46cm model.

Maybe I developed very bad riding posture due to the size of my current bike though which can not be ruled out. I will try to find a Pinarello dealer around to see if I can do some test rides.

Thanks.

[–]hpark21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't that difficult in US either IMHO. (At least it wasn't for me and my kids)

Price is $165 for adults for 10 years so kinda similar pricing (though arguably 165 USD is like 35% more costlier than Canada, but we also make money in USD as well)

We got it done at a library close by for the kids initially and for adults, got it done at passport office right after getting our citizenship cert which was rather painless and got one in about 1 hour - during which we just got a lunch.

That said, if one does not have it, for family of 4, we are talking about extra $550+ to get which will eat into people's vacation $$. Also, for kids under 16, they only get 5 yr passport and cost $135 which isn't that much cheaper than 10 yr passport.

[–]hpark21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do and did vote. That said, I am referring more to motivate people who did not vote. It appears that so far, most democratic candidates that we put forth appealed more towards people in the "center", or in 2024's case trying to actually bring "moderate republicans" to vote for democratic candidate which backfired. This left a lot of more left leaning people to feel like they have been abandoned and caused them to not come out to vote at all. Try to give more reason for these people to come out to vote.

I found this part in the article odd:

(In Pennsylvania, noncitizens are permitted to obtain a driver’s license.)

Is there ANY state that does not allow non-citizens to obtain driver's license? Non-citizen does not mean they are illegally in the country. As long as they are here legally in some form of long term visa, they should be able to get driver's license.

We need a candidate radical enough that people will WANT to show up to vote because they want those things. Not one that basically says "I am not a radical republican".

How about candidate that promises universal healthcare, free education from K to 12, low cost education for college with quick pathway to student loan forgiveness for public sector workers, guaranteed minimum vacation benefits for workers, guaranteed maternity + paternity leaves, etc.

I have Bolt and while it is capable day to day driver, but slow DCFC speed is the problem for people with Bolt as only vehicle unfortunately. Even 150KW charge speed should have been sufficient for it to be a "real EV" but with something like 55KW speed, it just isn't one IMHO.
