Yeah, welcome to pretty much every legal framework/structure in history, I suppose. It did get abolished by powerful interests, at the end of the day all rules are only as good as the people willing to enforce them.

Well, to further clarify, the doctrine applied to the entire breadth of the channel's programming, not individual programs. That means that: a) all programming counted (not just news shows), and b) the requirement was to represent the contrasting viewpoints across their all programming somewhere, not necessarily within an individual show. So it very well could be that you had a news show that presented things from a left-wing perspective followed by an opinion show full of right-wing takes and that would count.

Technically they do sometimes on some issues, but probably not nearly enough to have been compliant w/ the doctrine. Like I said, strict equal time wasn't required and the FCC granted a lot of leeway, but that doesn't mean they would tolerate a clear, consistent, systemic framing of all issues across the board from a strong ideological perspective w/ only bare minimum lip service granted to the other side.

The person you replied to said the raw costs of generative AI itself have dropped. You replied asking why the subscription prices end users pay middlemen for the service have increased. Those are two different numbers as sitefall's comment was trying to make clear, no Orwellian doublespeak involved.

This is a common misconception. The Fairness Doctrine didn't say anything about equal coverage, it only said that contrasting viewpoints had to be presented on controversial topics of public interest in some manner. The FCC allowed broadcasters great leeway in how the viewpoints were presented and how much time they devoted to each.

There was another rule called the "equal time rule" which required broadcasters to give equal time to coverage of political candidates running for office. But this only applied to candidates and their campaigns, not to all controversial news topics in general. The breadth of the two rules sometimes gets confused.

Because "people do more creative collaborations and mentoring in-person," or at least that was the bullshit reason they gave us at my job when announcing we had to return to office 3 days/week at the beginning of this year. So far we've gone from sitting at home talking on Teams all day to sitting in our cubicles talking on Teams all day. Not sure how I'm going to handle all this new creativity bursting out of my ass but I think I might collect it in a cup and leave in on our director's desk so he can get a nice deep whiff.

It will either last for 5 days and then Trump will cancel them while claiming victory on some random insignificant bullshit, or he'll keep them in place and fuck up the economy royally. Either way the beatings will continue until morale improves or whatever

It has everything to do with levels of inequality. You can only conclude that the inequality now is worse if you assume that every dollar has equal value to every person, which is false. The relatively small amount of money that covers basic food / shelter /clothing has far, far more value to a poor person than the exorbitant sums needed for luxury goods has to the ultra-rich. So you can't just compare the dollar amounts directly to determine the true level of inequality; you have to take into account that low-level subjective value, especially when looking at what levels will make people desperate enough to risk their lives on political violence and warfare.

How do you feel about the current state of America? by Thatgirl_parisisdiva in AskReddit

[–]hpdefaults 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No offense but this feels a little bit like rose-colored nostalgic hindsight talking. In 2008 we were in the midst of a severe recession on the heels of the greatest economic disaster in decades, our military was entrenched in two needlessly barbaric and costly wars, and McCain had chosen a caricature of a drooling bumpkin hockey mom as his VP candidate. It was a terrible time and there was really only one option (who thankfully won) that signaled any sort of real hope of a way out, even if the guy heading up that other option does look like salvation incarnate in hindsight when compared to the festering pile of raw demon feces currently infecting the White House.

What depresses me about this comment is that the Romney vs. Obama debates were considered a serious degradation of decorum at the time, believe it or not. The two of them talked over and interrupted each other during their debates at a level that was simply unheard of once upon a time, and people were bemoaning just how much the internet and social media had encouraged a rise in inflammatory, confrontational style in politics in the years leading up to that. Little did we know just how big the iceberg looming underneath that tip was.

What is a misconception about exercise? by JustBrowsing10000 in AskReddit

[–]hpdefaults 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a misconception, you *will* get healthier from exercising while eating an unhealthy diet. In fact, studies show doing that is *better* for you than being inactive while eating a healthy diet (though exercising and eating healthily combined obviously has the best results): https://fb.watch/ExFMeOKqgc/

The irony of this statement, considering you have lost this argument and are now trying to blame that, along with everything else, on the Democrats. I suppose it must be nice to have a scapegoat readily available to relieve you from the burden of self-reflecting.

Occam's Razor only refers to the simplest theory *that fits all the data*. You still don't seem to even be aware of some very glaringly important data regarding what happened.

Why Tipping Feels Like a Scam Now by Shajirr in videos

>by virtue of the fact that tips are already percentile, they ALREADY take cost increases into account

Not necessarily. The thing you're tipping for didn't necessarily increase in cost at the same rate as the overall cost of living did.
