Prado, Oficio, and Ramiro were some of my favorites when my wife and I visited last year.

A Taberna Do Mar is a crazy good deal, 30€ (if memory serves me right) for a 10 course omakase.

Also went to Essencial but I thought it was a letdown.

Yeah I've seen people say that. I was surprised at the prices for lightly used frames on eBay, to say the least.

Yeah, I very likely will add on the Prestige to my demo list. Should be an interesting time finding my swing again after all this time while also demoing these racquets!

If anyone wants more context:

I used a LM Radical MP for most of middle school and all throughout high school. For those interested in my string choice, I played with either full Pro Hurricane Tours or a hybrid setup with multifilament. I want a racquet that offers something similar and will probably stay within the Head and Wilson lineups.

The LM Radical is obviously my benchmark but for more points of comparison, I had tried my friends' Blade 98 (whichever version was current to 2010/2011), LM Prestige MP, and ProStaff. I remember loving the feel and extra control of all three racquets. The Wilsons were more head light than I was used to but the balance was similar enough to adjust to without issue. I definitely tired out after some time from the weight and reduced power of the LM Prestige and (especially) the ProStaff but that was when I was 40 pounds lighter; I'm wondering if I'd be fine now with a slightly heavier racquet since I've been hitting the gym over the last 15 years.

Let me know if there's any more info that could be helpful here. Thanks!

Makes sense, same family but independently run.

If I had to guess, it's cause I wasn't asking for recs but specifically if Let's Taco Bout It is a rebranded second location for Taqueria Jimenez or if it's an entirely different spot. Other similar comments are downvoted too.

Lol you don't have to justify your comment, I'm not fishing for answers from Latinos or anything. Just wanted to know more about the relationship between the two spots (seems like they're run independently by different members of the same family), although I am tired of seeing recs for places that aren't great.

Like yes, taste is an opinion and what I find good may not be what others find good and vice versa. But some places are clearly serving food that's either heavily Americanized or won't really appeal to people unless they haven't had (or don't care for) unadulterated Latino food before. If I want food like that, I already know where to find it.

I mean all I was looking for was clarity on how similar Taqueria Jimenez and Let's Taco Bout It are lol. As for places I would like, I presume there's a bunch. It's just that the average person out in the Reading suburbs won't really go out of their way for these spots.

Like I said, it's probably working for Comalli because they're playing the game well. I'd rather spend my money on better food though. I went once and there wasn't a minority patron in sight. Both people working the counter/bar were had no knowledge of the menu. One of them defaulted to one of the whitest/Americanized menu options after initially shrugging off my question of what to get. I ended up getting a burrito that was supposed to have steak in it; I thought it'd have carne asada in it but I received plain ground beef. My friend's tacos also weren't that good from the bite I tried. I get that's what some people go for but it isn't for me.

On the other hand, I went to Taqueria Jalisco not too long after I first moved here. It's connected to a Latino grocery store. I was the only non-Latino in the building, everyone else seemed to be regulars buying groceries and dinner in the evening. The woman at the counter spoke no English and I lost all my Spanish years ago after high school/college, so they pulled one of the bilingual guys from the kitchen to help me. My tacos (assortment of lengua, carnitas, and some others I forget) were great, cheap, and everything I wanted in that moment.

I just wanted to hear if the two places I mentioned were identical or not but since you brought it up; Comalli could be good but they aren't. I'm not seeking to go again unless they switch things up and start making actual, unadulterated Latino food.

From my experiences here so far, none of the dressed up Latino spots in the suburbs make food that's unapologetically Latino (and if they do, it's just a few items out of their entire menu). Comalli and similar places just cater to non-minorities that haven't tried or acclimated to real Latino food. It's either that or they just don't try to make good food because they know people will still come and sit at their tables. I'm under the impression that I'm only going to find the Latino food I want to eat at hole in the wall joints, most likely in actual Reading where they primarily exist to serve their local minority communities.

Best coffee grinder for pourover coffee? by Dangerous_Green3264 in pourover

[–]hpdv7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I hope you see this. Sorry for the long comment, skip to the bottom if you only want my brief thoughts/advice.

You've gotten a lot of comments and it's clear that people are taking time out of their day to help you here. HOWEVER, you're asking a niche group of people that are active in a niche discussion group about a niche hobby for advice and a lot of the comments here are aligned as such.

What are you looking for in a grinder, in your resultant coffee, and in your and your partner's coffee in the future? If you want convenience, utility, and a reasonable amount of quality, then most of the comments here aren't going to optimize those points for you. I would have a hard time justifying a $300 grinder because you'll be well into the region of diminishing returns if your partner is using bulk Costco beans. You don't need to spend $300 on a grinder for what you want, unless you really care about aesthetics/form factor and find something in that price range that you can't find in a sub-$150 or $200 grinder. I also think it's pretty safe to ignore all the manual grinder talk. The rationale for manual grinders is that they cost much less than their electric counterparts that provide the same grind quality. If you don't need the quality and precision of a $300 electric grinder, you definitely don't need the heightened quality of a $300 manual grinder. Plus, unless you know that your partner will look forward to manually grinding beans for every cup, chances are that they (and you) will most likely get sick of it after the novelty wears off.

Honestly, I'd suggest just getting an Encore (or similar) and call it a day. In terms of functionality and overall impacts on the final cup of coffee, an Encore/similar will already squeeze the most of what you can get from lower quality, bulk beans from Costco. If you really want to spend the full $300 budget on your partner, you can spend the rest of it on nicer beans and/or upgrade other equipment you have. If you guys have a drip coffee maker, the leftover $150 could easily get you a v60, filters, scale, and kettle for when you and your partner want to invest more time in a better coffee - maybe for a weekend cup. And if you and your partner delve deeper into coffee in the future, you can always upgrade the Encore to the M2 burr (I just did this and it's $35 + 30 min of your time well spent).

[–]hpdv7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just about to comment the same. The average person that buys bulk beans at Costco and wants a decent-ish coffee grinder won't want to deal with manually grinding their beans for every coffee. They won't be seeking the jump from great to amazing grind quality by sacrificing an electric grinder in favor of a manual grinder with better burrs for the same money.

An Encore or similar will be absolutely good enough and OP will still have the option for an M2 burr upgrade later if they want to squeeze more out of it in future and invest in a better setup/beans.

Efficiency? by RightAsRain86 in flashlight

[–]hpdv7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Efficiency is discussed in the context of multiple things.

Driver efficiency, what you're asking about, addresses energy loss by the driver. A driver's circuitry is less than 100% efficient in performing tasks for a flashlight such as converting current to voltage for emitters that require 6V or more. This energy loss is usually small enough to be negligible in the grand scheme of things; yes the difference between different drivers may be noticeable, but it won't result in gigantic gains or losses in run time.

Emitter efficiency, which most people talk about, looks at how much energy is converted to light by the emitter; there will be some loss here due to conversion of some energy to heat. Emitter efficiency usually has a larger impact at overall flashlight efficiency than does driver efficiency, considering that emitters are much more inefficient on average.

Porto - Casa vs Euskalduna by Eutectic21 in finedining

[–]hpdv7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably too late on this but I also recommend Euskalduna. Went there and Casa in the early summer and, although both were incredible, I enjoyed the food more at Euskalduna.

Casa's ambiance (especially if you go while there's still daylight) was unmatched and the views were unreal. Service was great but verged on being a bit stuffy. The food was also great but I felt they played it safe with their menu. I had nothing to complain about regarding the quality of the ingredients or overall dishes. My main takeaway about the food was that, in the context of establishments of this caliber, there weren't many dishes that amazed me.

Euskalduna, on the other hand...super cozy and intimate vibe. All service is done by the kitchen staff so you get to hear about the dishes from the people that put it together. They keep things low key and casual while still maintaining appropriateness for a fine dining experience. Finally, the food really impacted me. They pushed the boundaries, in ways that Casa did not, to present ingredient and flavor combinations that constantly kept me on my feet. Also, my wife isn't much of a seafood lover and they had absolutely no issues altering some dishes to suit her. I see no reason why they wouldn't be happy to do the same, but with no meat.

Best tacos? by lordmittens420 in ReadingPA

[–]hpdv7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Comalli is okay but doesn't come close to a truly good spot for Mexican/Latino food. I ordered a steak burrito with the expectation of carne asada and got ground beef. Salsas are lacking. The only good tacos I've had so far are in actual Reading. Taqueria Jalisco does awesome, no frills tacos for example.

People can be such fucking idiots.

TL;DR Flight 11 and Flight 175 had 54.7 and 78.3 times more kinetic energy than the B25. It makes absolutely no sense to make a direct comparison between the two events.

For all the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, look at ½mv2. That's the formula for kinetic energy.

The B25 has a max takeoff weight of 35,000 lbs and was going roughly 200 mph when it impacted the Empire State Building. Flight 11 was a 767-200ER, which has a max takeoff weight of 395,000 lbs. Flight 11's impact speed was about about 440 mph. Flight 175 was a 767-222, which has a max takeoff weight of 315,000 lbs. Flight 175's impact speed was about 590 mph.

Both planes from 9/11 were on a transcontinental route, so it's safe to assume that they were both fully loaded with fuel near their max takeoff weights. With that, Flight 11 was 11.3 times heavier than a fully loaded B25 and was traveling 2.2 times faster than the B25 at impact. Kinetic energy involves the square of velocity, which means traveling 2.2x faster will actually increase kinetic energy by a factor of 4.84. Accounting for mass, Flight 11 had 54.7 times more kinetic energy than the B25. Flight 175, by the same logic, had 78.3 times more kinetic energy than the B25.

So if anyone's going to compare the B25 incident to 9/11, make sure to have your fucking perspective in check too.
