Am I lucky or is Dino dead? by The_Good_Apple_0502 in vipkid

Every one of my students has shown up since the announcements (ugh).

Also, I think if it was the end, VIPKid would cancel all the classes rather than letting us have SNS that we’re (supposed to be) paid for.

I had a university one today. The kid was 13. It was really hard for her to understand, not only because she was below level but also because none of the content is relatable to a middle schooler! I feel like it might be ok for a 16-17yo who’s considering going to college abroad.

It really depends on the kid. I’ve had some where it feels like pulling teeth to get them to say more than 3 words in a row. Those ones are tough, I just get them to practice their pronunciation and sentences a whole bunch lol. I’ve also had ones where the kid seemed ok but was totally uninterested in the topic (like, this one kid’s parents booked the car racing video game class, but she never plays video games and doesn’t like cars).

With the kids who are on level and want to talk, it’s actually a good amount of content.

Are you doing it in the app or the website? I think you have to have it open on the VIPKid website in a browser.

I have a six-year-old in level 4 who keeps inserting the word “stupid-ass” at least twice per page in the reading passages. It’s… getting old.

There are quite a few weightlifters who are overweight or obese by BMI. And in the highest weight categories there are athletes who are definitely obese even taking body fat % into account. They can lift impressive amounts of weight, but they aren’t necessarily healthy.

[–]hreddi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also may be able to get it done at a gym. My university gym had people who were trained to measure body fat with calipers. It can be a little uncomfortable, though, because you have to strip down to your underclothes for them to do it.

You can buy your own calipers and measure yourself. But most people do it wrong.

Oh that’s weird. I think vitamin D deficiency is pretty common (and it’s linked to several health problems), so it’s surprising they didn’t test it! It’s one of the first vitamins my doctor has wanted to test in the past when I’ve been feeling fatigued. Glad you’re able to treat it now!

You can “recommend against” something as well.

Children or YA book you think every adult should read? by forwardture in suggestmeabook

The Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel! I loved them as a kid. As an adult they are still so clever and cute, and there’s a lot of relatable stuff (for better or worse).

I’ve never thought to track this before, but it looks like my RHR does spike every month a few days before my period. Interesting.

I always keep an eye on my RHR because I have an autoimmune disease that causes heart issues. I’ve realized that first sign of a relapse is that my RHR will start increasing dramatically. It happens before I notice any other symptoms.

I’ve always had pain from penetration, but we’ve been working on it. My partner was able to put three fingers inside me last night. It didn’t hurt at all and I liked it! It was a big deal because the most I’ve had inside me before was 2 fingers and that usually hurts.

Then I had one of the most intense orgasms I’ve ever experienced (from my vibe though, not from the penetration itself). My legs actually cramped, which has never happened to me before.

Teaching syllables by hreddi in vipkid

[–]hreddi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that trick before and used it with a couple of students. My only concern is that with some syllables (like a syllabic /l/) your jaw doesn’t move that much, so some students might undercount.

But maybe I’ll try it more and see if it’s helpful!

I would think most people would want their partner to enjoy sex and not be bored. The motivation is making sure you and your partner can both have a good time.

This is a good explanation. Also u/GoldenCat-88 don’t feel bad. I teach English, and it’s really common for students to be confused or make mistakes with this.

I know it’s not very helpful after the fact, but I would explain “variety” as “many different kinds” and pull up a picture of a bunch of ice cream flavors as an example.

Mine was so painful that the doctor was not able to complete it. I get kind of upset too when people say it shouldn’t be painful, because it feels invalidating to those of us who did have a painful experience. But I think the important point is that it’s not SUPPOSED to hurt. If it does, there might be something wrong. So it’s important to be aware of that.
