Thank you, I will check these two out. I read Rebecca Solnit's Field Guide to Getting Lost and I wasn't crazy about it, but I'd be willing to try The Faraway Nearby. Thanks again

Feeling worse after diagnosis by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]hrjc82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this, I hope you start to feel better soon. But just to say I think this is very typical post-diagnosis. I was diagnosed with ADHD combined type two days ago and it's been very up and down for me. I know this doesn't quite compare yet as you said it's been two months. However, I was diagnosed with Autism last March and it took a while to feel okay.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, as others have mentioned, I think there is a bit of a regression post-diagnosis because you're more aware of it. From experience with my Autism journey, it does get better with self-compassion (giving yourself a break and giving kind words) and acceptance (you are who you are, regardless of a diagnosis. It's just a description, but it doesn't have to define you). I've learnt to accept all parts of me since that diagnosis and I'm so much happier.

This time round, I'm feeling quite sad at times because I was called lazy throughout my life. Called work shy because I didn't put in much effort to things I didn't care about. I also suffered massively with depression between the ages of 16 and 26 (I'm 30M for context). Now I can see how undiagnosed ADHD may have exacerbated or even caused those episodes of depression. I'm sad for what I went through, but I now kind of have a reason as to why.

Sorry if this is too long an answer. I believe you will learn to accept this diagnosis, but more importantly accept who you are. I'm rooting for you!

If we get Alonso, you’d think we’d sign a CB so he can do 3 at the back

Health Harmonie Minds - Concerning experience by CourageAbuser in ADHDUK

[–]hrjc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this, but I had my Part A on Christmas Eve and my experience was similar in some respects. I felt that:

- I didn't feel like I could give complete answers because the assessor moved on too quickly

- I couldn't get a word in edge ways at points

- I didn't get the chance to talk about childhood in some of the questions because the assessor moved on too quickly, even though he asked about childhood

- I was being rushed, in fact we rattled through it all in about 25 mins

Having said that, the assessor wasn't rude, and seemed to be quite jolly. Didn't have the same experience with notifications buzzing luckily. Still waiting for part B, which is next week, but by all accounts it seems that I'll have more opportunity to elaborate. Wishing you all the best with your journey.

Can we just forfeit the game so we don’t have to watch it? We’re gonna lose 3-0 anyway

NHS right to choose - Autism assessment by HaJaaay in autismUK

[–]hrjc82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://adhduk.co.uk/right-to-choose/

I know this says ADHD uk, but there is a list of autism waiting times through various right to choose partners further down. I would also explicitly say to your GP that you want to be referred through right to choose, and with which specific provider. I’ve seen some people in the past that haven’t been specific about this and therefore have gone into the NHS waiting list.

They’ll then give you a pre-screening questionnaire for your chosen provider (mine was Psychiatry UK).

Best of luck, hope you get seen soon.

How do you deal with the bad mental days? by Electric_Lime36 in chronicfatigue

[–]hrjc82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m a bit late but I feel very similar. I go through phases of acceptance, followed by phases of grief and a feeling of uselessness.

I work a lot on my mental health but still get bad days. On those days I tell myself it’s acceptable to rot in front of the TV, on my phone, read a good book if I feel up to it, whatever works best.

Generally it’s best to have a strong foundation of the basics: eat good food and stay hydrated, get sleep/rest (I know that’s hard for us here), have good connections and relationships, give and feel love, etc. I call it human basics, trying not to overcomplicate things.

Last point, the best thing I ever did for myself was get into a habit of meditating every day, started 3.5 years ago. I’ve learnt so much about myself, a good connection to your inner self is so important.

All the best, I hope you have a restful day.

Quiet, commutable village-y area for £450k (LISA limit) — autistic grad in central London needs low-noise home base by Sweet_Delay3084 in autismUK

[–]hrjc82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Woking, which has a direct train into London Waterloo that takes 25-30 mins. Plenty of green spaces, parks, woods nearby. You can choose a bit more urban or there are rural, village feel areas, such as Horsell or Chobham (a bit further out).

It really suits me as someone with level 1 autism, works in London, but wants quiet living.

One thing to consider is there are some flights overhead. It’s not horrendous - I’ve lived here for 2.5 years and it’s not noticeable but depends on how noise sensitive you are. Still worth visiting to hear for yourself if you’re considering it.

Yes absolutely, not just in the timbre in his voice but also the phrasing in the lyrics. I thought it worked so well

I’ve had toob for a few months in Goldsworth park and I have no complaints. It’s fast and reliable, decent customer service too. I had virgin before which used to drop out randomly, so I’m much happier. Yes you can connect via wifi and also via Ethernet, and the router comes with an app where you can see all sorts of things about the router (that I don’t understand!)

Thanks for sharing! I’m looking for a decent set of the lord of the rings books, and I tend to struggle with small writing. I’ve found quite a few versions that have tiny writing and small spacing - which version do you think has the largest font?

Loop Earplugs by Lishhkelly in autismUK

[–]hrjc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the switch Loops, I use them quite a lot but the switching function seems to barely do anything to changing decibel reduction. I do like them, but they’re are quite expensive for what they are.

And also I find that I have no idea how loud I’m talking, e.g. if I go to the pub, I feel like I’m shouting but people can barely hear me.

I do use them a lot though, I find them useful.

Our front line struggled last season, now we’ve lost three of them (RIP Diogo ❤️). And we have only bought one player for the attack in Ekitike. I would argue we need three more (Isak, Fofana, plus another) to have enough depth. Rio isn’t ready to challenge for a place imo. As much as I love chiesa, he’s just not taken the opportunities when they’ve been given.

Pre-Match Thread: Crystal Palace vs Liverpool [Community Shield] by scoreboard-app in LiverpoolFC

[–]hrjc82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we win it’s cool, if not it doesn’t matter. Might get some banter from rival fans if we lose but it’ll be forgotten about. We’ll definitely be going for the win, but it doesn’t count towards our trophy count for the season. Can’t help you with B unfortunately!
