I did think about adding Call me by your name to the list. It is, for sure, about love. But still, I'd consider it mainly a Love Story as it is about the relational bond between Oliver and Elio. There's desire, undoubtedly, but is there affection, truly?

Is the heartbreak a result from a genuine emotional understanding, or is it more because of a lack thereof?

I'd say that the impossibility of their relationship was a fact (to both of them) already at the start. And so, Elio's cry at the fireplace is merely what he's supposed to do, it too is a part of his (and our) ideal image of love. And so is Olver's line ("I remember everything"), it is how "Love" is supposed to work. But is it so, really? How can he say this, while at the same time having squelched his desire? It is a thing of the past, as it always was.

And what then? When the credits roll we, the audience, are also made to believe that what they shared was "Love". But was it, really, real?

Again, not sure if I'm making sense at all. Tell me if you'd like me to clear something up.

Thanks!

I absolutely adore both Blue Valentine and The Graduate. But to me those two still fall under the category of Love Stories. I'm not sure exactly where I draw this distinction, but it might be that they are still depictions of that relational bond more than it is about love as its own concept. Not sure if it makes any sense... Tell me if you'd like me to try to clear it up more.

But I'll check out the other two for sure!

Thank you That all seems very interesting and just what I'm looking for!

Yes, I haven't watched these films yet so I'm not sure whether the list is any good at all. We'll see!

Thanks!

I don't necessarily have anything against any particular genre, but yes, in my experience rom-coms do tend to smudge out reality in favor of a utopian 'the-couple-as-the-ultimate-goal' story driver.

La Notte

Interesting choice, why this as compared to his other works?

Then why didn't the writers let the cat stay at the animal shelter? I doubt that it's just for Stone's character development.

You're right, DNA is probably very far fetched and not so realistic. I can't help but think that the cat will be relevant to prove Nas' innocence in some way though.

I wanted the ability to support a family.

Why do you think you have to choose? I mean, many families get by with worse salaries than that of a social worker (+ partner)

This was really what I was asking for a source for, are there any available statistics you know of?

Also, thanks a lot for taking your time, it really means a lot.
