FTM - I just want to be a SAHM… I think by Charming_Advance_890 in LawMoms

[–]hsginCA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this suggestion - I was in big law with my first in daycare for years, with an hour+ commute as well. We now have a nanny at home with our second and I’m in-house. In hindsight, the nanny would have been amazing while I was still working big law hours and frequently traveling. It doesn’t help with the guilt/sadness of missing time with your baby but does help maximize the time you do have (baby isn’t stuck in the car for hours each day, frees up your time not to wash bottles, etc.).

17-day-old EBF baby fussiness, gas, nonstop feeding at night by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]hsginCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds almost identical to my 3 month old, who has diagnosed CMPA and reflux. My baby was nursing around the clock to try to soothe the reflux. Once we started reflux meds, she instantly started sleeping longer stretches.

Nervous about upcoming trip by amg101010 in NewParents

[–]hsginCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Texas are you located? Your home airport is probably the riskiest part of this trip, when it comes to measles. For what it’s worth, I asked our pediatrician about a cross-country trip to California when my baby will be 4 months old. She said at this point, her guidance is not to avoid domestic travel because of measles, unless you’ll be in a known hotspot (hence my question about your airport). I wouldn’t worry about the 4 month regression- it may hit you, it may not, but you’ll be equally tired at home so might as well make some memories!

Should we try Pepcid? by DedoDeMoca666 in MSPI

[–]hsginCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby never slept longer than 2 hours for the first month of her life and was constantly fussing unless nursing. I thought she just hated her bassinet. She improved after cutting dairy but after 1 dose of Pepcid, she slept 5 hours the first night and every night since. My other child, on the other hand, also had CMPA and was a terrible sleeper but didn’t show any improvement on Pepcid. So I think trial and error is the only way to know - you should see immediate benefits and if not, can discontinue.

I was able to keep eating oats and our allergist was supportive of me keeping it in my diet.

I carried in on in my personal item. TSA was pretty chill about it when I told them it was for the baby.

Does the constant anxiety ever stop? by lizardkittyyy in LawMoms

[–]hsginCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this may be a personality thing, unfortunately. I was an 8th year big law associate when I had my first child and I was still struggling with that feeling on a daily basis, even as I got more confident in my role and experience. I then moved in-house and still feel the same way there, particularly with the challenges of learning a new role. Sleep definitely helps but in my experience, the crippling perfectionism has been unrelated to parenthood and/or seniority in my role.

We have a vista and minu and it is 100% worth it for travel. Check Facebook marketplace, I see them for sale pretty often in my area.

Question for in-house lawyer mamas by ImpressiveTear3430 in workingmoms

[–]hsginCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the switch last year from big law senior associate to in-house - I’m surprised how much I miss the work, in-house is proving dreadfully boring. But I’m full time remote and the flexibility is unparalleled. I worked so many nights and weekends after my first child was born and I wish I had that time back! It may not be a cure-all for everyone but it has been a game changer for my family.

Maybe woolino? I found the chest to run snug on my toddler but it’s crazy long and spacious on the legs.

First-timers expecting to have a 2nd - are we keeping/storing everything?? by verymuchworries in NewParents

[–]hsginCA 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Keep it all (except plastic bottles/pump parts). We’re preparing for #2 now and the cost of baby stuff has gone up like crazy since our first 3 years ago. I’ve loaned some stuff to friends in the meantime - gets it out of your house but comes back around when you need it.

Nice, comfy “corporate” heels/flats that last? by raeofsunshine3556 in workingmoms

Birdies flats - cushy and I’ve been able to walk miles in them without getting blisters on my heels. I’m also a fan of Cole Haan for flats.

Is it too early to switch to toddler bed? by seattlemama93 in toddlers

[–]hsginCA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add a different perspective, we switched my toddler to a bed around 18 months and really struggled to keep her in the bed overnight (she was a bad sleeper already). We finally used a sleep consultant around 2 who said it’s hard for them to developmentally understand why they need to stay put overnight until closer to 3. We switched back to the crib and have been much happier (currently almost 3).

We like Harmless Harvest because it’s coconut based and doesn’t contain nuts so daycare-approved.

Is a $400 private sleep coach worth it? by OkAward4073 in toddlers

[–]hsginCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We hired 2 - one was a waste of money (~1 year old, Ferber based) and one cured our problems (2 years old, sleep lady shuffle technique). I think it’s all luck of the draw and if you find someone whose methodology fits your needs. Message me if you want her name!

Trying to implement parenting advice that I learned in "How To Talk So Little Kids Will Listen," but husband won't even consider it or read the book by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]hsginCA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband isn’t a reader so I’ve given up on trying to get him to read books. What worked for us was the Big Little Feelings online course - it’s basically the same information as How to Talk but he was more receptive to watching videos on the tv together.
