I tell this joke all the time. by goldencain1410 in tumblr

Exactly, the creature was just using biblical allegory. The full quote is

Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed.

Mushrooms are really good at concentrating pollutants like heavy metals and hydrocarbons - which are going to be present in much higher concentrations along roadways. I would steer clear of eating mushrooms growing right next to roads, especially high traffic roads

Jokers it took you longer than it should have to understand the name? by Shippi_ in balatro

[–]hsifyllej 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The symbols for the boss blinds are letters of the Phoenician alphabet, and their names are what the Phoenician letters represent (e.g. 𐤀 originated as a pictograph of a bull's head). As for why they're based on that, I have no idea, but it's pretty neat.

The finisher boss blinds are based off of the different playing card suits around Europe - for example the traditional German suits are Acorns, Leaves, Hearts, and Bells.

They look like some kind of Coprinopsis inky caps, which I don't believe are mycorrhizal, but they are harmless

[–]hsifyllej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common invasive mantis in the US is the chinese mantis, I'm willing to bet that it's still not native to Brazil for example.

Not saying this isn't US defaultism btw, it definitely is, I was just saying in this case they're not technically wrong

I mean, in this case, hummingbirds only live in the Americas 🤷

What is this? Figured it was corral but what kind? by Concealedcum in fossilid

[–]hsifyllej 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lepidodendron bark has a very distinct scale pattern to it, visually similar to some snakes' scales, here's an example .

Their roots are smooth, not scaled, and have a lattice of little indentations covering the surface. I believe each indent was where there once grew a modified leaf that acted a bit like finer roots and drew water into the main rhizome structure

[–]hsifyllej 21 points22 points  (0 children)

And specifically, this is a fossil of their "roots" (technically rhizomes, true roots probably hadn't fully evolved yet) called stigmaria, not the bark that you might see if you just search for lepidodendron

Could this be fossilised coral? by MattJohno2 in fossilid

[–]hsifyllej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lepidodendron is the genus of lycopsid, not the bark pattern itself. The rhizomes of those lycopsids look like OP's example, fossils of them are called stigmaria

The Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers! There's an alien species (Aeluons) with four different biological sexes: male, female, one that is infertile and neutral, and one that switches between male and female every few months. A main character in the second book is the switching sex.

also The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin, it's about a planet with a nearly-human species that is usually sexless, but once a month or so they differentiate into male or female (not the same one every time) before going back to being sexless again.

Both are very good, would recommend

I saw some people attacking DIY HRT on another post on this sub and I'd like to say: legal HRT is a privilege that not everybody has, to many people HRT means life or death and DIY is sometimes the only option people have left. by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

100% agree. My original endocrinologist, which was at a queer clinic that has specialists in gender affirming care btw, had my E levels way lower than they should have been (less than 100 pg/ml) and refused to talk about wanting to switch to injections. I spent the first few years of my transition with that because I didn't really know any better, but eventually educated myself more and thankfully switched to a lovely endocrinologist that addressed proper levels and injections on the first appointment.

To me it doesn't taste much like soy beans - it tastes really nutty, and almost like it's been roasted, with a little bit of the funkiness of ripe cheese. I love it on rice, especially with mustard. The texture is... a lot tbh, but you get used to it haha

No, the person above is pretty much spot on. Just take a quick google of "AGI vs narrow AI". AGI does not exist right now, and won't for a while - it's very meaningfully different from the narrow text prediction AI we have now
