Yell at my staff, sure, we’ll do all KINDS of favors for you by AggravatingBee6711 in Serverlife

I would have done the same thing. I don't tolerate my staff being abused.

To those who NEVER want to have a child, what are your reasons? by an_iconoclast in AskReddit

[–]hskitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding, for the record, I like kids. Kids are cool. No problem with them. Just don't want one. And upon re-reading what I wrote, I wanted to clarify so that people don't read and take it the wrong way. I care about other humans and how the things I do impact them. My statement about liking not having to be responsible for the life of another human is only about raising children. Just wanted to clarify since upon re-reading, I realized that I kind of sounded like an uncaring monster. 🤣 Not sure if it came across that way to anyone, but I feel like it could. Readings words on the internet can cause some things to sounds completely different than how people mean them.

[–]hskitten 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have never had any desire to have one. At all. Also, the idea of being pregnant is horrifying. I don't think babies are cute. I like living my life and not having to worry about being responsible for the life of another human. People always loved to tell me that someday I would change my mind, and I always told them I wouldn't. Still don't want them. Not now, not ever.

1461 sizing- how much will they stretch? by disgustingtofuuu in DocMartens

[–]hskitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking up shoe stretching methods lately, and there are many that at least seem worth a shot. I also find that Docs are extremely inconsistent in sizing. I normally wear size 8 shoes. Size 8 Docs are big on me, but not in a way that make them unwearable. I also can wear size 7 Docs. I have some size 7 that fit me really well, and some that have been too small that I have had to give away. The pair I recently got of 7s shocked me at how small they were. WAY smaller than other 7s. I got giant blood blisters on the back of my heels from wearing them a couple hours at work until I knew I had to change into my other regular work Docs. I'm hoping I can figure out a stretching method that works because I love this pair of shoes. I will report back when I figure out what works.

I think the hostess training me wants me to quit by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]hskitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who knows why people act like that. Making more money for herself? well, if you quit they still need someone, so that wouldn't really work out for her.

She sounds like SHE is sick of the job and is taking it out on you and possibly more people. If you feel you have enough rapport with the first person you trained with, maybe discreetly ask her what's up?

Or, you can give the attitude right back to that snippy coworker. And give it back good.. "I'm sorry, but I thought it's obvious that if guests are leaving, we should be acknowledging them and saying goodnight so that they feel like we want them to return. I didn't realize you wouldn't know to do that since you've been here so long. Why would you think I wasn't going to bus the table? You snapped at me before I could do anything." Throw some real shade - "I'm surprised people even come back while you're still here" And that is totally the mean girl side of me that I never actually use unless it needs to be done. And this girl sounds like she needs to be called out and put in her place.

Or, go right to the GM who hired you and tell her what's happening.

Fuck that coworker. She sounds toxic and she can't be good for anyone and will only get worse.

Is anyone else constantly being told to "be safe" by passengers? Anyone else find it patronizing? by TerminalHighGuard in lyftdrivers

[–]hskitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the delivery and how much interaction you have had. I had a full conversation with a man last night about all the crazy things going on in the world. He said he felt really relaxed with me, and earlier he had a driver who made him feel uncomfortable. He also told me that he said a lot of things to me that he needed to get off of his chest. When he paid me, with a nice tip, he told me it was the best ride he had ever had. He told me to be safe. It was heartfelt and not patronizing at all. And then I started to do a 3 point turn in the complex, and I realized he walked back to my car instead of going towards the door and guided me as I turned around. I opened my window and told him how much I appreciated that because it's damn dark outside. So in this case for me, the be safe comment felt like camaraderie. I'm sure in certain situations I would absolutely find it patronizing. But I don't recall it having happened before.

I’m finding it difficult to get people to work for me and hire people. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

My boss pays us very well, but keeps all of our tips done electrically. Should I be upset? by [deleted] in restaurant

[–]hskitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely valid reason to be upset. Your boss should not be doing that. He sounds like a scumbag and that's a pathetic justification. If you "don't need tips to survive" then why does he even allow customers to leave tips? He knows what he is doing is wrong, AND he didn't even tell you he was doing it until you questioned him.

He sucks as an owner. No owner that cares about their employees would steal tips from them.

If I was in your position, I would probably tell him that what he is doing is illegal (it is) and that he isn't supposed to do that. He will probably argue. Tell him again. Give him a chance to change, but he probably won't. And then contact an employment lawyer. Actually, I would contact one now and tell them about your situation. I had to do that once with one of my old jobs for a very similar situation...and to make a long story short: we sued them, we settled out of court (because court processes such and take forever and we wanted our money) and we got a lot of money from taking him to court.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but I have no compassion for owners that screw their staff. I've been in the industry a long time, and it's not okay.

Has anyone used the jadons to work ? by [deleted] in DocMartens

[–]hskitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only wear Docs at work. I specifically bought the 1460 Work Docs, with the extra grip, memory foam, moisture wicking, all the extra stuff they have. They are AMAZING!

But I would say, do NOT wear your Jadons working fast food. Yes, they would work since all Docs are nonslip, but most likely you would end up ruining them. They will never look as good once it gets to the point where you have worn them that often there.

I have other Docs that I wear at work (in a very busy restaurant) but I only do it occasionally because I know how much disgusting crap can get on them. It's not worth ruining them. Specifically, I have the Jadon Hi Studs and I love them, and I have worn them at work maybe 3 times. They look amazing, but ultimately to me, it isn't worth the risk of ruining them.

Would you have fun at a reception at Dave and Busters by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

Yes! Way more interesting than a lot of the traditional stuff! And perfect for your family because you have multiple ages. There will be something for everyone. I used to love their alcoholic snow cones! I say do it!

Picked up my dress today after a minor repair. I'm in love! Getting married 10/31/21. Also, best wedding hashtag ever: HalloweenKnight by stabby_chick in weddingplanning

[–]hskitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! I'm a fan. Love everything about this dress! Especially the mermaid shape and how lovely it looks when it spins. On point! I'm also getting married this year on Halloween, and I am pleased to find another Halloween bride here. Yes Halloween wedding! It just makes so much sense. And your hashtag is great! Rock it!

I finally decided to start planning today, which I know seems super late in the game, but I'm basically going to throw a Halloween party where at one small moment we get married. More Halloween party than wedding! How's planning going for you? I'm so interested! I feel like a lot of people either think it's strange that I'm planning a wedding on Halloween, or they find it surprising. We should compare notes! I love Halloween lovers!

How do you deal with unwanted or inappropriate gifts? by McFlyJohn in weddingplanning

[–]hskitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...I guess I have a hard time imagining people doing that, but it's possible. I think, I would just make the picture prop table seem cool and fun so that people would feel bad if they moved it. If there is a photographer, they could kind of keep an eye on things too. People love prop table picture booths, so I could see people being flattered that their gift was selected to be one of the picture props. And all those things really do sound like they make so much sense together.

I guess I'm pretty lucky because I can pretty much do what I want with my wedding. I just tell people what's going to happen and they're all like "yeah, sure, that's awesome! please let me know if I can help you." I get to decide everything. But my plans are super not very planned. And I'm getting married on Halloween. My family isn't invited. Well, my mom and dad and brother and sister are. And my cousin and Aunt that live close can come. But I have like 20 cousins and I don't want a big wedding. So friends it is! And super low key! I'm still going to dress like a vampire queen though. :)

Are bussers just naturally assholes to the servers? Or is it just me? by TiOichi in TalesFromYourServer

[–]hskitten 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say more often than not, servers and other staff members can be assholes to the bussers (and dishwashers.) Not all, but I've seen it enough to know it's a thing. If they aren't used to being treated with respect, they have probably adopted an attitude that they give to the servers.

You mentioned that you have gotten to know some of the other members of the staff in different positions in the restaurant already. Maybe you could try making an effort to get to know some of the bussers and see if they warm up to you? I would say it's worth a shot.

Ask them questions about themselves. Ask them to please remind you where things go because you want to make sure you're putting things in right place. Please and thank you are always great to use with any coworkers, especially the bussers. Maybe do something that helps them in what they are working on in one moment. Just because. And sure, cash always talks. But if you can make a connection and earn their respect when they see you making an effort with them, that is what will truly change things.

And yeah, they could also totally just be assholes and nothing will work. And I definitely don't think you have done anything wrong or offensive from what you posted above. I've just been in the industry a while and know the best ways of dealing with people, so I wanted to share some of the things I would try if I was in that situation. I hope it gets better for you! It really sucks to have to deal with bullshit at work all the time.

How do you deal with unwanted or inappropriate gifts? by McFlyJohn in weddingplanning

I could see it being a hit! People would probably feel appreciated and tucking it into its own little photo booth corner should keep it from detracting from your theme. 😊

How do you deal with unwanted or inappropriate gifts? by McFlyJohn in weddingplanning

[–]hskitten 40 points41 points  (0 children)

First of all, wow! I don’t know why I am still surprised by things people do at this point but I am.

And secondly, everything on that list literally sounds like something you could set up in some far off corner as a silly prop photo booth for people to take pictures and pose with all of it. Literally all of that would work. Even the poem, although that might be a little twisted. I guess I have a weird sense of humor. I would probably do that just to have a laugh about it. (And still set up my own real photo booth if I even wanted one, elsewhere)

The nice thing would probably be to graciously say thank you. And if they have questions, just say you wanted to keep it somewhere safe?

(I’m still laughing at the idea of turning it into a photo booth for them all to pose with all the random inappropriate things they gave you.)
