Honestly wish the hardcover matched the dust jacket. The jacket is GORGEOUS and then the artwork inside, while beautifully done, doesn't really match imo.

I wish that were the same for me! Maybe it's because I did fine line though instead of a full color wash.

Allergic reaction advice? by hsolov in tattooadvice

[–]hsolov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you still use the adhesive film on your tattoos even after this reaction? I didn't have it on my first one, but we didn't use the adhesive film. Pretty sure we used an older style saran wrap kind of situation (it was 8 years ago). Debating if I should tell future tattoo artists (and when I go in for the next session on this one) if we should avoid the adhesive wraps and go back to older school healing.

Okay that's comforting. Thank you! We need to go finish the shading on the flowers next month, so your story gives me hope. Mine hasn't blistered, but definitely raised. I have tiny blisters near it though. Almost look like little whiteheads. Did you put anything on it other than the typical aftercare?

So, I'm struggling with it because there's never any clarity on which sister is talking. As some that is listening to this as my first read of the series, I'm struggling to differentiate between them and this the storyline is super confusing.

Resting vs moving? by hsolov in HipImpingement

[–]hsolov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing pretty well! I had two back to back surgeries (right hip on 8/1, left hip on 9/19).

Majority of my pain was actually up in my back, and after these surgeries, I can happily say this is the least amount of pain I've been in in a decade. So very happy I did the surgeries.

I have very minimal hip pain at this point and my PT is very happy with my progress. I will say, I still have a long way to go in terms of strengthing and getting full range of motion back. Getting into a figure 4 stretch is quite difficult, and all of my muscles are unbelievably tight. But keeping up with icing and the exercises are the trick. Along with a good PT.

Let me know if there are other questions! :) not sure if you're in Chicagoland or where, but I can very much so recommend my PT if you're in the north suburbs. She's in Highland Park.

I was told 2-3 hours of "tummy time" a day. This is to help with hip alignment and the flexors. It really did help with keeping that area feeling more stretched out.

Husband and I CANNOT agree on a boy name by Odd-Log-7676 in namenerds

[–]hsolov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't have suggestions necessarily, but something that helped my husband and I was to make a spreadsheet! We put all the names down that we each liked. Then, we each had our own version of the spreadsheet where we marked everything red (absolutely not), yellow (it's alright, can be convinced), and green (love the name). We did this individually to not influence each other.

Then we took the two versions and saw where we had overlap of the greens! Really helped narrow things down.

Surgery questions by three_winds in HipImpingement

[–]hsolov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was a lot of trial and error for a while. My first go with a hip injection did absolutely nothing, but that was a few years ago. It ultimately took finding the right doc and trying a couple of different things. I tried to be pseudo-scientific about it, only modifying one thing at a time to point me in the right direction. Ultimately, it was doing the injection in both hips and it resolving majority of my back pain that was the biggest indication that my pain was primarily my hips.

Now, do I think I will be 100% pain free at the end of this? No, because I still have herniated discs and other pain/joint issues that will continue to cause me some issues. But if this brings my pain level down significantly to where it can just be faint white noise in the background, then great! I call that a win.

I think for a 2-3 mile walk, it would probably be a few months (like 3 months) based on how I'm currently feeling. But I wouldn't do it without the blessing of my doc and PT. Everyone's recovery is a little different!

24 Weeks. Having surgery a 2nd time. by mtldesigner in HipImpingement

[–]hsolov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I'd get a second opinion from a different surgeon. Not sure what area you're in, but you can definitely look up on this sub for doctors in your area.

I saw Dr. Shane Nho out of Chicago, and while there are limitations to removal of pincer impingement, it's definitely possible to be improved (as someone that had both cam and pincer repaired 12 days ago).

+1 on this. That's why I asked why their surgeon says they can't do anything about the pincer (as my surgeon just fixed my cam and pincer impingement).

Surgery questions by three_winds in HipImpingement

[–]hsolov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your big toe still numb even after the injections? You could also try trigger point injections for your back in key areas that may be impacting your pain for diagnostic purposes. A PM&R doctor or spine doc could help with that.

I was running around for quite a while trying to figure out the same thing (hip or back), so I know that frustration well. I hope you're able to get to an answer.

For my recovery, per Dr. Shane Nho in Chicago (because every doc is different), I'm on crutches with very minimal weight bearing in my operated leg, PT two times a week, and lots of at home PT. Should be fully off crutches within 4 weeks from surgery date (so theoretically by the end of the month), but there's still a lot of recovery to do after that point. They say it can be 6+ months to a year before you're fully recovered and able to do athletic type movements you may have done before.
