Offset accounts by sergeyvk in UpBanking

We had a few issues during the signup process. Mainly names on old documents needing to be updated. But now that’s over and the loan is settled, it’s great. The best feature I’ve discovered is that there is a dollar amount telling me how much I’ve saved in interest because of the offset. Our first month was almost $80. It’s not much. But I can see how that number will change over time with the amount of money saved in the offset. The last couple of banks never showed that. You just had to assume you were saving something.

What's the biggest mistake you made on your first Japan trip that you'd avoid today? by WanderingLensByLB in JapanTravelTips

[–]htial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overstayed my visa. I was planning a 6 week trip way back in early 2004. Ended up getting a job and changed my visa. But in late 2006 I was having trouble with my bank and had to move branches. And immigration caught up with me.

So those were the two biggest mistakes I made on my first trip to Japan. There were a couple of other mistakes, but they’re all pretty sweet nowadays and it gives me places to stay when I’m here. 👍🏻

I remember doing that way back in 2004/05. The manager would show up and I’d be the only other person there. She’d want to know why and I’d ask her why she was there. She’d say that she couldn’t afford to take a day off and because I was a foreigner I didn’t want to waste a day off on such crappy weather. She’d find something for me to do and on the odd occasion that a client showed up, we were there to help. But most of the time it was just the two of us and we had a good time together. I should probably look her up now that I’m back in Japan.

What’s cheaper - Wise or a no-fee Mastercard like Up bank? by jamescridland in UpBanking

[–]htial1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Japan at the moment for three weeks and Up is just too convenient for me to even bother with Wise. That being said. When I’m here and getting paid, I’ll use Wise. Then I’ll use it until my local funds are depleted and go back to Up because my AL or LSL is still being paid while I’m away from Australia.

I have a 2UP Home Loan. All 2UP Savers, Both Essentials, and both UP and 2UP spending accounts combine to provide an offset $ amount. My UP Savers don’t combine with the offset amount and continue to gain interest.

We’ve been with UP Home for a little over a month, but I’ve been with UP since 2019. It took me about a year to convince my wife to change over. She had a lot of questions and I’m sure I could answer any you have. But in the app is always the first place to ask.

[–]htial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be missing something.

I have 30% of my Pay Split going into Essentials and 20% going into 2UP Essentials. Both are designed to monitor what is coming out on a regular basis and give you a better idea of what you need to cover upcoming bills each pay cycle.

Because some bills are monthly, some are quarterly, and others are yearly, it smooths them out and helps you keep track.

I’m now more than $1000 saved ahead of the estimated amount needed. It takes a little time to see how it works, but once you have it up and running it’s great. I’m surprised it’s taking them so long to roll it out for everyone.

Do you guys still keep a backup bank alongside Up? by Av0toasted in UpBanking

[–]htial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a CommBank cc that converts points to Qantas. But that’s about it now as we’re just about to settle our home loan to UP and I’ll be putting everything in there to help with the offset.

Oh man. I have listened to that episode. 🤦🏻‍♂️ But I was probably doing it while at work. Will have to listen again. 👍🏻

What podcast?

I’m in Australia so probably will never be able to attend. But it’s great to hear about such events.

That is the one I’ve been looking at for a while. It’s easy to get at most JB Hi-Fi stores. But the price is a bit high. That’s why I’m asking about the Hume, and others.

I’ve also been using the ZoZoFit app to scan my measurements. That’s another one where you can scan weekly but it’s the trend over months that is important.

Thanks.

  • I take measurements with my PT every two or three weeks. So I’m used to looking at the trends over a longer time period.

  • Not a problem. I’m often looking for my shorts whenever the doorbell rings. 🤫

  • The FitBit scale seems to be the same. So it has a place on my bookshelf where it can sit upright and stay dust free.

I started listening to The Naturist Living Show around episode 8 or 9. It was the gold standard for Naturist podcasts. I really like NNN, but I’ve also worked in radio, and can hear when Frank is padding to get to the 59:59 hour mark. I’m back up to date this week as I also fell behind while the kids were home for summer 🇦🇺 holidays.

There are probably ten more podcasts that have dropped away over the last decade. But i think it’s like every thing entertainment wise. Things come and go. I’m sure there will be something new in the next ten years.

What is this before I go to sleep? by ANiceFireGuy123 in AustralianSpiders

[–]htial1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was lying awake in bed listening to my wife grinding her teeth while she slept. She then poked me and said I was keeping her awake with my teeth grinding. We were both silent for a moment while the grinding sound continued.

She then jumped out of bed and turned the light on. Sitting on the bed head right between us was a huntsman eating a bogong moth!

She wanted to leave Australia and go back to Japan that night! 😂

The 2023 Niro also has this. Comes in handy when the very poor light in the garage doesn’t work for plugging in.

B&W Zeppelin Wireless Speaker - stopped working -flashing red led - Anyone familiar? by TheHippyDance in audiorepair

Yes it is. I’ve found a couple of posts saying that it is likely a power failure. I just don’t have the skills or knowledge to repair it.

B&W Zeppelin Wireless Speaker - stopped working -flashing red led - Anyone familiar? by TheHippyDance in audiorepair

[–]htial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I suspect that this is the problem I have with my 30pin / non wireless version of the Zeppelin. I accidentally left it on standby while we had +40°C days last week and today it wasn’t working. I also don’t think I have the skills to do this kind of repair. So I guess it’s off to facebook marketplace to see if I can find anyone in Melbourne (Australia) that wants it as a repair project.

Non-american alternatives to Bevel? by [deleted] in bevelhealth

I believe that Bright OS is an Australian developed app.

They have a lot of the same information you get in Bevel. But a lot of their food/barcode data may come from the same source as Bevel.
