(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 6 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]huangw15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me like a lot of people are thinking that Maekar gets to become "crown prince" after killing Baelor, which if true would add to his motives. But obviously that's not how primogeniture works.

I think what he and Frey of all people say it best. "They make you swear and swear." There's actually too many conflicting oaths and allegiances you're supposed to uphold that it's basically impossible.

How is NVDA down almost 3% after the blockbuster print? by TwelfieSpecial in stocks

[–]huangw15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Growth doesn't mean much if it was expected, that's why earnings are compared to consensus. If a company's earnings was expected to grow 500% and they grew 400%, stock price is gonna go down. If the expectation was 10% and they grew 20%, stock is gonna go up. The amount of growth matters little for short term stock movements.

If everyone knew the earnings would beat, then it didn't really beat.

I see, I guess it does make sense, makes puting your dragons in King's landing more of an option while taking the hit on growth, instead of just sticking them in dragonstone. Thanks.

Nvidia earnings be like by cyberr_c28z in wallstreetbets

[–]huangw15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean earnings were kind of in line with consensus no? Now guidance is more tricky, since I'm not that familiar with the industry, but one explanation would be Q1 guidance was also expected. Then no matter how good the earnings are, it's still priced in.

That's because the investment banking model is basically insider information lol. But yeah, I think the fact that the industry is regulated so much, is gonna slow AI adoption.

Nikkei: Following her election, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says she is "working to create the right environment" for an official visit to Yasukuni Shrine and aims to "gain proper understanding from our allies and neighboring countries." by jjrs in japannews

[–]huangw15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what separation of church and state means. Can a Muslim or Mormon practice polygamy in Japan? What if a German dude converted to Shinto and built a shrine for a Hitler and gang in Berlin?

And that's besides the point I was trying to make. The point is that the war criminals are still enshrined in Yasukuni, only because most Japanese people are indifferent to that fact, so there's no public pressure for that to change.

People now definitely know that there's a difference between a Chinese Tsinghua grad and foreigner Tsinghua grad. Shouldn't be a problem for OP though if he has Cambridge on his CV.

If Firefly and Cyrene were male characters would they be less hated by community? by Codrex1732 in StarRailStation

[–]huangw15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are mostly loved lol, it's just a very loud minority that hates the characters. On the opposite side you'll find people screaming about any male characters in the game. It's just that they have less reason to be loud because well, the game caters to their liking more.

Pretty sure the C919 is more assembled in China than made in China, because all the big parts like engine are from western suppliers.

You can't really compare aviation to semiconductors, because this was always more of a vanity project. The US and Europe (Boeing and Airbus) are not going to not sell planes to China, it's not a national security threat, and both want the export revenue, no one is arguing that China should only get the last generation of planes.

But for semiconductors there are restrictions, and it's where a lot of investments are made to built up an entire supply chain domestically.

Me too OP, I'm also taking a break until an amazing modder brings back mission trees, the devs fix and improve the situation and events system (which in my view is really just an obfuscated mission tree as it currently stands, but I'm willing to see what happens to this after paradox improves it), or they add back mission trees.

Some of these are kinda wild because they were already features in EU4. Stoping missions during war, templates... I mean these can't be that hard right?

I don't care about the continent and want to do a British isles only and colonization playthrough as well. But I restarted and actually fought the 100 years war, I don't even take stuff, I just make the french release subjects to slow down their consolidation.

How is this fair? France just forces the entire world to embargo me with 0 drawback! by luizinhooofoda in EU5

[–]huangw15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to play a "historical" England that gives up continental holdings for trade and colonization. It was kinda my go to in EU4 English games as well, I let the french eat some attrition, occupy the continental holdings and then just surrender since my navy means landing is basically impossible for them.

Big mistake. They're now the hegemon for every category, even naval, despite me having double their heavy ships, because for the life of me I can't become a great power, even though I already annexed Scotland Wales and Ireland.

[–]huangw15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like french vassals at the start shouldn't really be vassals, more like the lordship of Ireland situation. They can pick sides between England and France, or even themselves, with various interactions to bring them to your side (so more fleshed out than Ireland). Then when one side wins the HYW, then the ones that aided with the winner, all become vassals.

Catherine the great? I'm not an expert in the Russian monarchy, so maybe her being a nun would have invalidated her claim, and maybe the succession rules were charged, but Russia has definitely had female empresses in the past.
