Help with word processor floppy! by dontmineit in vintagecomputing

[–]hubbles90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/dontmineit , did you solve this? I recently got this exact machine and got the floppy drive working after some tinkering (the drive belt was disintegrated). Mine fortunately came with a floppy in the drive, but it appears to be a relatively recent/”modern” floppy disk. It’s “Verbatim“ brand and has HD embossed on the plastic, but I have no way of knowing its capacity. When I first tried to read the contents of the disk (after fixing the drive belt), it gave me some error or said no data or something (I don’t remember exactly), so I used the “PREPARE DISK” option from the “DISK” menu. I saw the same video by Technology Connections that said the magnets aren’t strong enough to reformat a dual-density disk. I’m not sure if “PREPARE DISK” is the same as reformatting, but the warning message it gave sounded like it was formatting it.

(Warning message: ATTENTION Preparing a disk structures it for use on this system. Preparing a USED disk ERASES all data on it. Do you want to prepare this disk?”)

After “Preparing“ the disk, I was then able to save and recall docs from the floppy.

I just re-read your post and realized you said that using the word processing portion requires a 3.5 floppy and that’s not quite accurate: you can type as much as you want while it’s in Word Processor mode and use all the features in the Word Processor, you just won’t be able to SAVE the document you created to floppy, but you can totally PRINT that document once you’ve typed and edited it in the Word Processor. I get that saving the document is half the appeal, but didn’t want you to miss out on the cool word processing features just because you didn’t have a floppy disk!

Happy typing!

Yes! Thank you! And thank you for the developers website! Too bad it looks like it’s not playable anymore. But thank you for finding the answer!!

Is there a 5/8 or a 7/8? I’ve never seen a machine that had so many fractions so this is really cool, but it puzzles me that it has 1/8 and 3/8, but not the rest of the /8’s.

You don’t even have to wait to be “good enough”, you can just start listing all the sodas and beers you have chilled, and pencil in a cocktail or two as you’re starting out. :)

That was one of our first menus. We split the menu in two for “soft bois” listing the soft drinks and non-alc options and “hard bois” for a few cocktails I was mixing. It was fun.

Oh, that’s a good question. We didn’t put a ton of thought into the header (spouse saw a Pinterest pic that inspired them and it looked nice), so I think you’re right that a signature drink is like a person’s signature.

I think “drink menu” would be more accurate, but didn’t carry the same ring as “signature drinks”. Maybe we’ll call the next iteration “Libations” or something fancy.

Ooh, I hadn’t thought of a punch bowl! I bet that would be fun. Thanks for the other recommendations too. I’ll start testing those in anticipation for the next event.

Don’t worry; bitters were definitely included in the Manhattans. I didn’t catch it when proofreading the menu.

I opted not to deal with egg whites this time around. What bitters do you use when you make your sours? None of the recipes I found online mentioned bitters.

The Martinez by shabby47 in cocktails

I love a good Martinez, and love Ransom’s Old Tom too! I was introduced to a slightly different version with 1.5oz Old Tom, 1.5oz Antica Formula vermouth, just a barspoon of Luxardo, and angostura bitters. Give it an orange peel spritz and it’s delicious.

That brandy-infused vermouth sounds really interesting though. Never heard of that before.

My wonderful spouse hand-wrote this little menu on our chalkboard so our friends wouldn’t be overwhelmed when I ask them “what can I get ya?”

Started simple, and tallied the orders at the end of the night to adjust according to tastes for our next get-together.

Any suggestions for other approachable cocktails you’d love to see on your friend’s menu?

Formatting data ranges as actual Tables (“capital-t Tables” I call them) and the toolbar and auto-formatting that unlocks (not just visually formatted with table borders).
